Finally, we get an equivalent to the Suzuki Jimny💯
This is way bigger and more expensive than a Jimny.
Suzuki is a third tier automaker on a good day. This will be a First Class Toyota. 🤩🤩
@rightlanehog3151 it might be 3rd tier, but the Jimny is a very capable little off roader. Would be great to get something similar from toyota or a little bigger.
@@byhsu6140 And also a death trap. The doors are paper thin and on trails you have to move your body around and shift the center of gravity to prevent it from rolling over. It also can't negotiate a lot of ditches or cross deep rivers due to its ultra short wheelbase and low wade depth. I've driven one before and love how light it is on mud and sand. But most people who have never driven a Jimny before view it through rose tinted glasses.
Jimmy is tiny blood
I’m holding off purchasing any vehicle until the baby Land Cruiser comes to market. Great video sir
finally a land cruiser that I can actually afford... I'm literally crying with joy rn
Have you verified that it will be available in your country?
2.7 with a manual transmission, perfect!
EXACTLY!!!!
from the 2nd gen Taco 4x2
@@tinhinnh I had an 09 4x4 Tacoma with the 2.7 and manual 5 speed . It was great ! Unfortunately I totaled it 😢.
Better 15yrs ago but definitely not anymore😂
Glad to see they aren’t retiring the 2.7. An extremely reliable engine.
This LandCruiser FJ idea is brilliant. Toyota should sell this worldwide... 👏🏾👍🏾👊🏾
They should sell that 13k folding bed side truck worldwide...even with a 25% tariff, it will still end up under 18k
REALLY hope this comes to the US.
Really like it to be released in Australia
Toyota is really pushing 20 million annual sales demand. They’ll never be able to make enough of these. Super stoked for this. I hope you get yours Kirk.
👍🏻"People will be losing their minds."
Best line of the day!
Totally agree. They won’t be able to make enough of them!
2TR-FE is perfect. Super simple, reliable, and like a big block 4 cylinder tractor motor with all the bugs worked out.
Knobs, dials and stripped down gauge clusters are fine with me. They'll still be working decades from now.
This could be a huge seller for Toyota. Not just limited production. I hope they make a gas model without hybrid.
If it can compete with the Bronco Sport Badlands and the Subaru Forester Wilderness, then I'll be taking a serious look at it.
Neither of those are body on frame. This will be much more rugged and reliable off road, but if they put in that 2.7L it will have bad fuel economy
Bronco Sport is based on a compact car. It is an overpriced econobox with an undesirable powertrain.
this would be competing in a league of its own considering there aren't any small body on frame vehicles anymore
Can’t claim it would be more rugged or reliable. The bronco sport it’s unreliable with the 1.5 but isn’t too bad with 2.0 in badlands
Badlands is decent little off roader especially with a little lift. The 1.5 sucks but the 2.0 isn’t bad
now we just need a baby Tacoma and we solid
They BETTER bring it to the USA!!
Hate to say it but fat chance.
@@capt.stubing5604what’s the reason they don’t bring something like this to North America?
@@ConsoleCombatIf, somehow, it doesn’t meet US “safety regulations”. Pray that Toyota is even bothering thinking about bringing it to the US.
@@ConsoleCombat They have a long history of only selective rigs brought here. It costs a fortune to certify a rig in this county and the profits on well priced ones are not what their higher end stuff is.
@@ConsoleCombat The majority of US consumers like big expensive vehicles. Ever notice how Jeeps and everything else keeps getting bigger?
Omg! I’ve been waiting for you to announce this forever, Kirk! I love Toyota!🎉
That looks really cool. I can definitely see some FJ Cruiser inspiration in the design. Hopefully it eventually makes its way to the US, it definitely seems like a cooler truck than the new Scout EV!
I don’t know what you’re saying, but that is not an FJ. I own one and that’s definitely not one. Do you know what that is? A Kia Sol.
@@DenverHarris I didn’t say it IS an FJ, I said that I can see some inspiration from the design. Certain line shapes and things look similar. Calm down.
This is too good to be true for the North American market. I could see Toyota selling 300,000+ in the US alone.
Depends on the price
Toyota alone has so many models by itself sales wouldn’t be as much as rav4 & Camry
If this starts at $20,00- $30,000 FULLY loaded, use the Toyota warehouse supplies bringing in safety 3.5 plus sales would be over 500,000 units in the first year if DEALERSHIPS stay honest and not bump up fake markups etc!
@@michaelsmith9308 you mean $20,000 for bass & $30,000 fully loaded ?
A) Corolla cross starts @ 29,000 I think
It’s gonna be starting 35,000-40,000 minimum
It’s gonna be more than Toyota cross & less than Land Cruiser
B) Americans like mid size cars / suvs
RAV4 dominants Corolla cross In sales dispute Corolla cross been cheaper
This is gonna be smaller than rav4 I think or similar size & will cost more
C) yes they will sell 500,000 if they give them away for $20,000 but no way they can sell them so cheap
Australia gets first priority 🦘🇦🇺
@@michaelsmith9308kind of hopeful, considering a base Corolla is 20k already. It's nice to dream though.
No manual, no purchase from me…. but I feel like they’ll definitely offer it to us that way with the 2.7L at least, because they’ve probably the greatest advocate as a manufacturer to preserve the manual transmission wherever possible. Love the design, and I agree - THE PEOPLE WILL BE LOSING THEIR MINDS if they’re able to bring it at that price point!
Why would you want a manual? Modern auto-boxes are superior in every way. Did you just learn to drive a "stick shift" as you americans call it?! In Europe we have been driving manuals for ever because we have a lot of small cars with small engines and because manuals are cheaper.
More glass behind the C pillar please!
Wheel on the back. WHEEL ON THE BACK!
2.7L and the manual. Sign me up!!
Why would you like a manual? Auto's are much better in every way.
@@elg1gy no.
Yes@@niceguyrides
Regular NA "old man" 4cyl with a manual transmission option please!!! I don't need high performance sports car capability from a vehicle that isn't designed or purpose built for that type of use anyway. Thankyou Kirk
Exactly!!!
I would place an order immediately for it!
I'm hoping for the hybrid to hit the streets here. Love the size and look of this vehicle, with the exception of the massive D Pillar. I could get over that, but I really hope they slim that down to a reasonable size for production.
Fun fact:
The interior render looks like the promotional photos from the Hilux Champ in Thailand
It would be a game changer if this is available in a three door version, similar to the Suzuki Jimny.
If not the 2.7, I see them putting in just the 2.4 turbo without the hybrid. Simple, but effective. It’s already in mass production and Toyota wouldn’t have to change anything with the transmissions/transfer cases from the Taco.
This is my fear. A turbo. Please no!
Get ready for a two-year wait time. Like for most good Toyota vehicles. (At least that's the wait we have here in Canada)
this is the only saving grace for Honda. People are still buying their cars because wait times for Toyota's are insane. They need to get their act together before Toyota figures out their supply issue.
I’m so excited for this!
Kirk, For the record, the Land Cruiser of my dreams is a 3 door Prado with tailgate mounted spare, 40 gallon fuel capacity, 6 speed manual and legendary 2TR-FE engine. Having said that, I am willing to 'compromise' on my dreams with a Land Cruiser FJ. 😉I hope they trim down that D pillar before production and include a ski pass-through, hand brake as well as a fold-forward front passenger seat. Please have Hino* make mine a manual with two tone paint. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 *For those who don't know, Hino built the FJ Cruiser and T100.
I would go crazy if they make it
mine is a 70 series troop carrier 4cy turbo diesel ... the car camper, overland rig I could build
They had those in Ireland about a decade ago
@@ConsoleCombatThe 3 door Prado was sold in just about every market outside the USA and Canada. That is why I am daydreaming about one rather than driving one. 😉
Yeah that D pillar is hugely unnecessary I opinion.
Thanks for the update Kirk. I was super-hyped for this car and so was every other enthusiaste. I hope it doesn't fall short of expectations.
Thai built Champ uses slightly modified Hilux chassis which is built for Asia-Pacific in both L and RHD so makes total sense for FJ to be truly global product... but they'll never be able to satisfy demand!
Great details, great research, great presentation. Easy sub.
Kirk 🙌🏾 is The GOAT 😊 always the latest and best automotive news 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I’m excited
I like the simple dash design. Hope you can get one Kirk.
I've got my Krispy Kreme Donuts and Coke Zero and I'm buckled in !!! Let's go !!! I still wish we'd get the Suzuki Jimny. I love that little thing. How do you improve a spoon?
Hi Kirk, in the article they show images of new hilux champ. Also the interior is straight from the hilux champ. U didn’t really cover that in the video. To me it looks like this will be a cheaper suv based on the hilux champ platform made for maybe poorer countries? Front headlamp design also looks similar to the Champ. Have a look and maybe make a follow up video with your thoughts?
Land Cruiser FJ? A new FJ Cruiser and 4Runner replacement? Noice! They need to make this.
Too small for a replacement
Cannot shake the feeling this is related to the recently introduced Hilux Champ... Low cost/old tech and very similar front end shape/elements...
Hey Kirk, we are both so excited about this! The only caveat is that Best Car Magazine is saying this will be based on the Toyota IMV series model introduced for Thailand (called Hilux Champ), so not based on TNGA-F platform. There is a chance that this could be Asia only because of that... let's see what happens.
😱😭
I'm so with you. I want to buy a prius in the fall but this little truck is coming with a hybrid power train this would take my money
Buy the Prius then trade it for this. Wouldn’t be surprised the resale value on the Prius would be just under original price
Just took owner ship of a UNDER GOUND 4-runner LIMITED you never know what color it will be , black, gray, blue, prices going down fast , I paid 47,200, my MINI LAND CRUISER, love the center Differential, Full frame, full time 4 wheel drive, full time truck, Just use it to go hunting with my dogs in the north east near canada , Old guy retired .
Can't wait!
🙏🏾 yessir! I don't like the idea of a TV on my dash!
If definitely be into this. Love my small offroaders
I'am digging it!
WANT!! .. and definitely would prefer hybrid.
I just bought a 24 4 runner Tr D pro and it had a lot of options but it was 59. I think the new one will be much higher.
nice vid, BUT, 70 series is actually more expensive then prado on the markets where both of them are sold :) like Australia
I will hope for a PHEV version ... maybe based on the Tacoma's 4x4 power train (if it ever happens). The Rav4 AWD power train is really a FWD with an electric motor for the rear wheels ... not really 4x4, even the Subaru setup is more "4x4" than the Rav4.
I hope to god that they keep that tire on the trunk lid. That design feature needs to come back into popularity. It's both plain cool and also extremely helpful!
There is a 2.4 diesel engine that is used in lower trim levels of the Hilux (that is also available with the 2.7 gas). The 2.4 diesel (2GD-FTV) has 148 hp and 400 nm, it would make a lot of sense for makets where diesel is more commonly used.
This engine would be perfect for this if it comes in at 1500kg
Slow 2.7 would be a dream for me
TG they did not go with clam shell doors again. You can still buy last model new in Philippines
I’m pro Honda but I absolutely love this!!
Looks super cute and super cool. I might get one depending on the trunk/cargo space. Needs to be at least close to RAV4 specs
Plug-in Hybrid with big battery and power outlets in an off-road vehicle like this would be super attractive to us. 35 kWh and NEMA 5-20 (20A 120V outlets?) Good way to mount antennas like Starlink, too. Yes, most desirable here in northern Utah, too. Towing hitch and hooks, for sure. Don't really need high water fording depth, but ground clearance and large tires are of interest.
Very excited for all of the new Toyotas!
3-door ver would be cool
The interior is actually from the Hilux Champ. I doubt the production LC FJ would have that interior as I imagine it would be a far more upscale product than the Champ. Also, I think this vehicle could only start at $30K if it had the ancient 2.7l engine.
I agree, the japanese magazine was just basing off what base interior could look like since they say it will also be built off the ladder frame chassis from the hilux champ, if they do sell it in the usa they are most likely going to put a small touchscreen at the very least
@@emikomina Basing it on the Hilux Champ's platform would help bring prices down. And yeah, no touchscreen infotainment for a vehicle that's expected to start at around $30K just wouldn't fly in the US.
With less side window at the back, do you think the rear window will power down into the door or will the spare prevent that option?
Toyota is just beating away at the 4x4 segment. Meanwhile Stellantis is busy trying to milk every dollar out of Jeep loyalists selling old platforms
That interior shot looks like its from the new Hilux Champ
New prado stands out 😅saw one the other day looks 👍
Looking forward to this model since I have owned 2 FJ cruisers from 2006 to 2019. I looked at the new land cruiser but it is too expensive for me. Would like to see this FJ hybrid with at least 3500 pounds towing capacity.
That's a win!
I am more than okay with an 8 inch touchscreen max and simpler button set up for this thing. I have a 22 sr5 premium 4x4 4Runner and it has the 8 inch screen. That screen is plenty good enough for me, even with its not amazing picture quality as many reviewers have said. People want massive oiled screens in their cars and I don’t get it. This thing would be awesome in full time 4x4 with a very simple info area and some comfortable heated seats. Would love to see it be very boxy to get good rear cargo area for its size. Was looking to get a rav4 hybrid and if this was hybrid I would seriously consider getting this depending on the mpg and interior room and of course price. If I could get a descent equipped one for 40,000 then I would jump on it.
Please give us an option to spec a non-hybrid manual transmission.
Also TBH Toyota offering an aftermarket TRD Turbocharger would also be amusing too🤣
We didn't get the Suzuki Jimny...this will be the better option
They probably made it to compete with the Jimny. I just hope this actually comes to the US knowing how these smaller cars usually don’t.
This will be Much better than a Suzuki!
More reliable, but less cool factor.
Yes, 2.4 hybrid- perfect! I just hope it would come to the USA!
The 2TR is also continuing in the 250 Series as a budget engine, so it will be integrated into the new electrical architecture (huge expense). The T24A would be stellar in this size vehicle.
I have a blue 2007 FJ 117k miles. I love it. This looks cheap as it stands now a Jeep.
Hopefully we get that here in the states , fingers crossed.
Miss my 2008 Trail Teams FJ. Would def consider this IF it makes it way to the US.
Toyota has needed a jimny cruiser for years, about time! This could be a huge sales success
If this comes to the North American Market I will 100% Purchase. I don’t care on the powertrain; hybrid is fine. I need a ladder frame, 4x4, locking rear differential all within 30-40k. Ohh and cool colour options! None of this grey/beige/white nonsense….
The Land Cruiser Land Cruiser trim makes more since with this Land Cruiser FJ in the picture.
Ladder frame? It looks like there will be a puckup version of this. If they throw in a mid gate on it it would be versatile and the perfect car
I LOVE it! If this doesn't make it to the US I'll take a hostage!
This thing goes back to the FT-4X concept. I think that was shown in 17 or 18? Not sure I would have to look it up.
364k miles on my 2007 FJ. Will trade for this!
Toyota has been serving up softball content for the channel. Gee wiz, Toyota new line up has been amazing the last couple of year’s
Is it better to have the spare tire inside or outside and why? Design-wise, spare tire mounted outside looks cool but are they convenient to remove and put back?
That dash looks exactly like the dj maybe with touchscreen etcétera but the overall location of dashboard looks exactly the same.
Where do you think this will be built? I’m very interested if this is built in Japan, but do they capacity? And agreed, I think the US would get hybrid only powertrains. Another great video Kirk, love it!!
Made in Japan. Tahara or Toyota Auto body would be my guess.
@@KirkKreifelsHino's Hamura plant built the FJ Cruiser as well as the T100 and it has built many Prados over the years. It seems like the natural choice to me.
all the low-production models are going to be made in japan, because they have the mix-use facilities. NA plants are for mass-production only.
Toyota just keeps making all the right moves. If they can pull this and the MR-2 off, it'll be amazing
When more details come out you get would love to know 1. If they will be made/built in japan 2. If Rear window opens (for my doggies).
I am so down to buy this... if they announce it I am going to my dealer immediately and putting money down
Hybrid option would be amazing for me. You could run the AC while car camping like in the Prius, and I can justify that being my daily driver if it gets 28mpg+!
I suspect North America version will be the 2.5l Hybrid, same engine as the Rav 4 and Camry hybrids. They can also use the 2.5 in a non hybrid version.
Toyota is cutting the number of engines it uses .
This going to be a nice suv to pair with my mazda 3.
They can announce it when but when will people actually be able to buy this or land cruiser at MSRP?
Kirk be wanting all their modles. I don't know how times I've heard "I want this" 😅
It's okay, I feel the same way.
@KirkKreifels what volume do you expect for this Land Cruiser FJ?
I want This!!!! Yes Sir!!!!!😊
The only thing I can see that would be different would be the classic FJ white roof.
Probably make the Toyota Stout on this platform or Land Cruiser pickup version. Really need to spin off the Land Cruiser nameplate.
nice vid, BUT, it's probably will not use tnga-f platform if they want it really cheap, it's rather imv-0 platform with ladder frame which is already used in hilux and fortuner, and the enigine suggest the same, cause it's still used in fortuner
So why not just get a 4x4 fortuner
@@winterlantern5695 I think this should be smaller and cheaper, more of Jimmy competitor not fortuner
Kirk, is this mini fj cruiser going to be the north american version of the hilux champ? same chassis? any resemblance with corolla pickup?
We'll see. It could be hilux champ platform..but that would reduce its chances of coming to NA
Even tho it’s very underpowered, I’d buy one of these with the 2.7L 4-cyl. They are known to go 500,000 miles without issue.
If this was the basis for the potential Stout return that would be fantastic
Always wanted the jimny. But I'll take this if it comes to America
