that is an interesting valve box I've never seen that always just hooked up tubing in basement and had a coil of it behind fridge, but this is nice being able to shut it off right there.

When it's like that they always eventually spring leaks in the tubing. Learned the hard way in rental properties. Better to install the box.

I installed one of the cheesy “kits” in a house built in 1975 to support a fridge we moved in in 1993 that had the water dispenser. In that situation, I brought it up right through the flooring in the middle, right along the quarter-round, or where it would go, anyway. In the crawl space, I used a “vampire” tap into the copper main line. That worked well enough, but I never felt good about the tube just coming up through the floor and being directly attached to the fridge. I’m about to set this up again in a house from 1948 - this time I have a box, WITH a water arrester on it.

turbo torch makes a short hot flame so you don't burn things behind pipe as easy, but they are noisy, and you can't change flame size much you have to run it full out or tip will be messed up trying to run it low. so you have to switch tips for large to small pipes.

One time when I was at one of the hardware stores, I saw some kind of copper installation kit that used glue. If that's a good way to go, it would be useful in these tight areas where fire is a potential hazard. Are you familiar with gluing copper pipe fittings and is it a good permanent installation method?

i always love when I'm doing a big project and keep turning water on and off and I just crack it like you did to fill pipes and check for leaks then forget to open it all the way LOL then I'll be wondering why my shower is so weak and stuff.

Wouldn't using 2 45° fittings have been a tighter (better flowing) connection?

ive always had issues soldering 90 angle pipe fittings. i get one side soldered then start on the other end and well it melts the solder on the original end i am am just going back and forth trying to solder that angle piece. afraid i would of called a plumber on that one.
