The buttons on the steering wheel being more numerous on the left side is probably due to the fact that your right hand is going to be on the shifter more often.
I made a POV video on a 2017 WRX. I like the way it drives, only annoying thing is that it feels underpowered under 3000rpm. For normal driving in town it doesn't feel that exciting until its revved over 3000rpms. Still a very cool car !
thanks for the updated review Matt, came in clutch & helped me decide to keep my 2016. My local Subaru offered me to early trade in my leased 2016 wrx for any 2018 on the lot, but after seeing this, I think I'll wait until my lease is up and hopefully the 2019 will be worth the wait
Already thumbs up even before I watch the video. I picked up the exact same car in WRB 2 weeks ago. I was not expecting you to review this car so soon! Awesome Matt!
Matt, it's been 3 years since the 2015 came out in late 2014, you have to request a 2018 WRX (CVT) but put it in manual mode, Sport mode (not Sport #) and use the paddle shifters to shift. It will be a blast, you should really like it. I have a 2015 WRX CVT with a COBB tune and use it exclusively in manual mode. - it's a hell of a lot of fun
Been waiting for this review, I just got my 2018's last week with the performance package, loving them recaros. Although still getting used to stick, Im having a ton of fun already, driving till my break-in period is done then time for back road acceleration giggles.
I recently got my 2020 Limited and I really love the car so far. Mine also has the STI short shifter which is essential to really get the most enjoyment from this car, although the throws could be a bit shorter. I am truly impressed by the performance of this car for the great price, and the handling and exhaust are fantastic. I'm even impressed with the fuel economy which has been around 30 MPG in mostly highway driving. I highly recommend the car! Also, I totally agree that the accessory arm rest extension is cheapo plastic trash...and the release button on it rattles while I'm driving, which is annoying as hell. The problem is that the regular arm rest is too low without the extension, so I definitely need it. I just wish it was better quality. Fun fact: that crappy arm rest extension is $160! I agree about the brakes too. The pedal is definitely softer than I expected. I don't agree about throttle response or turbo lag. I don't feel any delay at all.
The 6-speed manual transmission is the best choice for this car, but if you commute in stop-and-go traffic, the CVT isn’t bad for a CVT. Plus, the EyeSight assistance-driving I
Subaru WRX fan is back for one review. lol ... Another great review Matt and would be an inexpensive car to learn how to drive a manual in, which I need to do this year sometime after winter.
I test drove a 2016 WRX with CVT...what a dog. I knew as soon as I pressed the gas pedal this car was not for me. This coming from an ex owner of an '04 WRX for 8 years. The unequal headers and a turbo back with large bellmouth down pipe were the bomb!
ohplezz re flash it before you take it in and they won’t be able to tell used to work for Subaru as a lube tech and I would always see that happen with people who would break there Subaru even though the tech pretty much knows it was tuned people can get away with it as long as it’s relfashed and you don’t bring in your tunner
Six Strz hey man, I just got a 2019 wrx and want to reflash it with the Cobb accessport, so you think if I just reflash it back to stock tune when I take it to get serviced or checked out for issues they won’t notice? Thank you lmk
The owner Matt has this WRX. This Matt is reviewing it today. This is why it was "subaruwrxfan" in the first place, but because you like cars other than that like Mustangs like yours or 911s like Nick Murray's of which I'm dying for a review for, I kind of understand the name change. Nice vid, though. 🙂
I owned a 2003 WRX, and upon test driving the new model, you can tell immediately that this car has been neutered. My car felt wicked fast. The turbo was fantastic, and if you launched it correctly, you could smoke most cars off the line. This new WRX feels like a Jetta or something. Feels super slow, and what is with the bulky front end? Subaru, please return the WRX to its previous glory and make it a proper "rally car" again.
My 2015 WRX was much faster off the line till Subaru did some recall that flashed the ECU (some engines were blowing, this was mid 2016 or so). That dialed back the off the line performance far too much. I nearly got rear ended coming out of the dealership the off the line performance was so negatively impacted. I hated the car for a while after that. I had a COBB tune done on the car and got most of the performance back again - loved the car again.
Hey Matt, watching the video and when you are commenting about the large cubby under the HVAC controls (6:12) it looks like there might be a slot to the left of the power outlet. Maybe a USB jack? Probably can't see it from where you sit in the driver's seat....
probably the disproportion of buttons in the steering wheel is due to the fact that most people use their right hand to shift so most of the time the left hand is the only one that's free to press sw buttons
Hey Matt... Im from Ohio, and as we are talking My Mustang Super Snake and Im going to pick up my New Stang... The Saleen 302 Black Label... its pushing 730 horsepower from the factory and I want you to review it while it is stock. Im going to pick it up in like 1 month, so you I'll try to contact you when I get it. Also why I was at Saleen, they let me test drive one of their Black Labels... Its definetly a Beast.
As a former Evo owner (and previous to that, WRX leasee), I resent Subaru's hijacking of the term "torque vectoring", when they really mean "brake vectoring".
This guy reminds me of subaruwrxfan
P J its uncanny
Perhaps
+Pliskin Lol, I see someone is a DJ Khaled fan just like myself.
They look so alike, are they separated at birth
... none of yall realize its the same person??
Subaru WRX reviewing a Matt Maran
Pete T 😂😂😂
Only comes in two wheel drive.
blues03 not alot of horsepower but gets very powerful when doing backroad pedal to the metal tests LOL
These cars look so goofy on line, but ever time I see one in person I'm always doing a double and sometimes triple take smh.
Josiah Thibodeaux they look better “in the metal” 😊the red is great on this design.
"About the WRX...I'm a big fan them." That was precious.
0:45 "So about the 2018 WRX, well I'm a big fan of them."
The buttons on the steering wheel being more numerous on the left side is probably due to the fact that your right hand is going to be on the shifter more often.
Martin Donohue base model cars often have cutouts for buttons that different trims have but just have little caps so that’s kinda irrelevant
What's up everybody SubaruWRX here for another Matt Maran review
This will turn him into a subaruwrxfan
zyzz doggie sorry he's a type r fan now lol tuck Subaru
SI RICKO ironically Honda's only cool car is a Subaru knockoff
Dont you mean a subrukjgdkiffbj fan..
tommy d u b b s lol
Ashish Parmar and the s2000 man :( (s2000 owner lol)
Does anyone else watch these reviews just to see Matt's reaction during wide open throttle?
Matt the type of guy to nit you a sweater.
Lolz you're playing the Doug DeMuro game.
Since you're such a fan of Subaru WRX, maybe consider changing your channel name to something like subaruwrxfan. What do you think?
10:49 You welcome fam
ImRambo thnx fam
Rey Fuentes No problem bro
You dick😂😂😂
Kenny Fisher We all know the reason we watch these . Lmao
ImRambo you naughty boy 😂😂
Best review yet, should consider changing your name to Subaruwrxfan!
On this particular video you should have introduced yourself as suburuwrxfan, that would have been nostalgic even if the name change was not long ago
This Matt Maran guy seems to be a fan of the subaru WRX.
Ryan Chow hmmm only if his name showed it too
I made a POV video on a 2017 WRX. I like the way it drives, only annoying thing is that it feels underpowered under 3000rpm. For normal driving in town it doesn't feel that exciting until its revved over 3000rpms. Still a very cool car !
He is hammering down on the throttle in this poor guys car before it even hit 1,000 miles. WOW!!!!
thanks for the updated review Matt, came in clutch & helped me decide to keep my 2016. My local Subaru offered me to early trade in my leased 2016 wrx for any 2018 on the lot, but after seeing this, I think I'll wait until my lease is up and hopefully the 2019 will be worth the wait
I'm glad you brought back that beat in the beginning. I've being asking you for awhile now, thanks
Finally, a Subaru WRX for SubaruWRXfan
"The perfect thickness and a nice flat bottom." 😱
Already thumbs up even before I watch the video. I picked up the exact same car in WRB 2 weeks ago. I was not expecting you to review this car so soon! Awesome Matt!

Great new camera angle at 9:45! Please do more of that in these reviews!!
Thanks! Only possible with the sunroof, but I'll try to use this shot for more cars with sunroofs.
Ahh gotcha! That makes sense!!
I just changed my WRX order from a white premium to a white limited... This review makes me super stoked!
this is WHAT MADE YOU!!
Been waiting for this review, I just got my 2018's last week with the performance package, loving them recaros. Although still getting used to stick, Im having a ton of fun already, driving till my break-in period is done then time for back road acceleration giggles.
This video will go down in history.
Haha, within the first 50 seconds you used the words Subaru WRX and Fan, still got it.
I recently got my 2020 Limited and I really love the car so far. Awesome reviews, bro. Very detailed, which is awesomeee
SubaruWRXFan "I'm a big fan of them". hmm wouldn't have guessed that one.
I wish subaruwrxfan would review this wrx
Hey look, Matt is being subaruwrxfan again😂
"I'm a big fan of them." I see what you did there.
So much for the break in period lol!
The 6-speed manual transmission is the best choice for this car, but if you commute in stop-and-go traffic, the CVT isn’t bad for a CVT. Plus, the EyeSight assistance-driving I
i have this car its absolute shit fun to drive though just doesnt feel like it will last
Can't get enough of driving manual transmission's
Subaru WRX fan is back for one review. lol ... Another great review Matt and would be an inexpensive car to learn how to drive a manual in, which I need to do this year sometime after winter.
keep it up with your AWESOME videos! you are the best!
I think this is the most appropriate time to say "what's up everyone subaruwrxfan here " in your whole UA-cam career
good review, glad you're listening to the audience .
Whats up everybody Subaru Wrx here, this is of course the Matt Maran fan, wait what..
I test drove a 2016 WRX with CVT...what a dog. I knew as soon as I pressed the gas pedal this car was not for me. This coming from an ex owner of an '04 WRX for 8 years. The unequal headers and a turbo back with large bellmouth down pipe were the bomb!
I used to watch this guy years ago. Does he still ebeg for people to buy him new cars?
Pro tunes fix all of the turbo lag, and rev hangs
Also voids the warranty.
@@ohplezz assuming you have one.
Do a pro tune on a stock one?
ohplezz re flash it before you take it in and they won’t be able to tell used to work for Subaru as a lube tech and I would always see that happen with people who would break there Subaru even though the tech pretty much knows it was tuned people can get away with it as long as it’s relfashed and you don’t bring in your tunner

OG subscribers (from 2 weeks ago and before) know how significant this review is 😭😭
My dream car😍

That flat spot is totally there on the 2017 WRX. Right around 4500.
The fact that the gagues are white instead of red bugs me.
Subaru needs to farm out that 6 Speed AT from the 86/BRZ into this car, CVT option shouldn't even exist for this car.
Rain Santiago the "8 speed" cvt is great in the WRX and FXT, have you driven one? Nothing like the cvt in the non turbo models
2013 WRX SE having cvt in sports sedan is like having pizza with no sauce doesn’t fit well
Hey Matt, do you think you'll ever do the Mazda 6 with the manual? I'd be really interested in your opinion!
Also great review as always :)
There's a notorious black golf r that can't be beat
Dude. How many more WRXs are you going to review? Should rename your channel to subaruwrxfan. 😐😂
Just in time for Baby Driver
I miss hearing "it's subaruwrxfan here" rip
I owned a 2003 WRX, and upon test driving the new model, you can tell immediately that this car has been neutered. My car felt wicked fast. that's why they have the STI
Anthony C. Lol. 03 wrx was a slob compared to the 2018 wrx...
better buy r32 gtr
Would a tune help the 2005? Shame it’s so improved overall and they neuter it wtf
Back when you were the "subaruwrxfan" you were so easy to recognize and easy to remember
I know you've done the STI a bunch, but could you review the 2018 STI some time?
Good review Matt!
I like your videos, they are very positive and contain plenty of details which is good. I also like to listen to your opinion
Now, we need the obligatory 2018 STI review. Make it happen, Matt!
oh you're a big fan of them?
Great camera angles
Going to pick up my 2019 one this week 😎
Nice video, it's great to see someone excited driving a car. I love cars and driving, I know the feeling. Best regards.
Hey Matt, watching the video and when you are commenting about the large cubby under the HVAC controls (6:12) it looks like there might be a slot to the left of the power outlet. Maybe a USB jack? Probably can't see it from where you sit in the driver's seat....
I don't think he was able to confirm if it was quieter with that aftermarket exhaust.
Car review protip: Don't drive with the windows down during a review.
Just subscribed to SubaruwrxMoran and I'm liking the content
I always like your reviews Matt. Is it possible to talk a little about pricing base vs limited. Thanks
Matt thanks Matt
I miss it when he was super excited about this car lol I’ll go watch that one instead
I'm 6'4 will I fit in this?
The best WRX yet the best value performance car on the market
probably the disproportion of buttons in the steering wheel is due to the fact that most people use their right hand to shift so most of the time the left hand is the only one that's free to press sw buttons
subaruwrxfan will comeback from grave
+Movie Trailers sounds good! Please send an email or Facebook message when it's ready! Thanks!
Like to see 1,000 miles before exceeding 4000 Rpm per the owners manual. Also seems to make a difference in how it runs.
Mat, what you feelt around or after 5000 RPM during full throttle was the ECU pulling timing.
thank you! I am going to buy one.
just bought my wife a cvt wrx and I love the car. looks almost audi-esque imo.
I like the combination of this intro better
*What's up everybody it's Suburuwrxfan here... So about Matt Maran...
Big Subaru wrx fan huh? Couldn't tell!
Dude I love your vids
Any plans to review the 2019?
Should have been your next car after the Crashstang got destroyed.
I couldn't go from 435 hp to 268 hp.
I think that 268 hp would go faster than your 435 hp around a track...
Matt Maran Motoring nothing a few mods and a tune can't fix
modestmoose83 it wouldn't have, got 2016 WRX it's okay 0-60 but nothing after that.
Ryce Cubed that won't fix Subaru reliability.
Funny that people say these cars are crap... but they win 1st place every single year in the rally circuits.
You can't compare a street car that can range from $27k-$40k and a $250k+ rally car.
Hey matt are you going to have a meet an greet one day for your fans?
My old neighbor had a WRX, thing sounded like a fighter jet everytime he came home.
This car has so much room for improvement! C'mon Subaru!
Awesome intro!
Great review! 👍🏼
Wish I'd lived closer, id let you review my 2018 sti
Beautiful! Think I may pick one up
you gotta be in middle tennessee or maybe southern ky? those roads look super familiar... nice review!
He lives in Pittsburgh
