This is absolutely perfect. I've listened probably 50 times now. I love how the basses are just another layer to the beauty. You're not trying to show off low notes, you're creating beautiful music that happens to have low notes. The intonation is incredible, the musicality is out of this world, the video is high quality, the composition is stunning, and the singing is perfect. There is a reason Tenebrae is the best in the business, and this 3 minute video puts that on full display.

Oktavist don t show off, it s just the way this piece is created for them,harmony is beautifull in this version but Pasyukov version is unmatched till today.

It is interesting to hear Orthodox chants on the Catholic channel. Well done, almost without an accent.
There are quite a few spiritual pieces written by famous secular Russian composers (mostly before the October revolution), and this one one of them. They are great nonetheless. @@vsemprivet chesnokov was not at all secular....... one of the reason he stopped composing is because he got depressed of how suppressed the church in soviet russia.
@@reigenlucilfer6154 pleased to meet someone so deeply knowlegeable about Pavel Chesnokov. To have a civilised discussion we shall firstly define and agree what we mean by "secular". I simply meant Chesnokov wasn't a clergyman - he was a civil citizen who was a believer Christian, wrote lots of spiritual misic and conducted churh choirs etc. The distinction and peculiarity here is that dominantly most Russian spiritual music performed and used in churches is ancient with Byzantine/Greek roots, and was written by clergymen - and that's why those famous pieces written by "modern" secural composers, which are performed and used in actual churches along with 1000 year's pieces, are so interesting and valuable. ok?
