- Albert is livid when his son Harold proposes marriage to an exotic dancer. Albert plots to obstruct the marriage by losing the wedding ring and accompanying the newlyweds on their honeymoon.
John Laurie (private Fraser) played a doctor in the 1954 film 'Hobsons Choice'.
Ah right. I think that’s were we got it from. Thanks @bigcrispyheid
"The Lark's on the wing, the mornings dew pearled, oh gawd it is 'eaven awl is well wiv da world"
Did a better line ever bottle Harolds duality? If I'm not careful that puts a lump in my throat every time
Genuinely lovely poem. Harold’s such an aspirational character. Well spotted 👍
@@StepPodandSon It's very rare I watch the 1st movie, it's got some brilliant laugh out loud lines/moments like the initial meeting of H and Z, that scene is up there with Corbetts finest work but it's just too tragic on the whole
You have to understand how politically charged writers shaped british tv in the 70s, these shows they created (Till Death, Love Thy, Mind Your etc.) were all weaponised to rid national cohesion and prey on our empathy, it worked a treat, now we (collectively) look back and think it was this bumpinching jingoistic hellhole era, all very deliberate and very clever, add in what America was feeding us (Kung 'whutchya doin' here Chiiiinaman' Fu and 'Roots' which the author admitted was "a myth my people could live by") as well as all the other depictions of 'pathetic white father of the house' based viewing and it's no wonder this generation is so conditioned to guiltridden self-loathing
