  • It Rained!
Two "reputable?" youtubers in the UK recently tested the fuel burn of their sub70, 1 cylinder, 2-stroke powered aircraft.
    Today I test for comparison the Rotax 912uls - 100hp, 4 cylinder, 4-stroke.
This aircraft, the P&M Aviation QuikR microlight, is twice as fast and twice as heavy as theirs, and has capacity
    for two people.

Hi Stewart. Thanks for the shout out. Even though our machines are so different in many ways, it was still interesting to see the comparison. My aircraft will fly around 48 NM in an hour (in still air) and burn 5l of fuel giving me a Nm/Litre of 9.6 Nm/L. Not surprisingly more economical than yours. Of course, I don’t have much of the equipment on board that you do, I am slower and the big one being I can’t take a passenger but the major advantage for me is initial purchase price and running costs. It’s swings and roundabouts as we say in the UK. Thanks again for the mention. 👍

I'm sure Giles and Paulie will appreciate the shout out!! My P&M GT450 with Rotax 912ULS 100BHP flying with just me and a half tank will cruise at ~65mph for 11 LPH fuel. Adding a passenger, or a heavier fuel load, or trimming for faster flight, all increase that. I saw closer to 12 LPH on a long flight, loaded with luggage and spare fuel, and starting with the fuel tank brimmed.

Right on! I found that going slower makes quite a fuel burn difference. Maybe I should try it again one day. All the best with your flying!

Always interesting to see comparisons. Did think of getting a GT450 but as mentioned there are a lot of things to consider not least of which is cost (though a new Nine isn't cheap 😂) and things like transport and storage / hanger space. Have yet to do any serious flying in my Nine so I look firsts to finding out for myself.
