I enjoy your videos. I like the appearance of Dacite but I find it unpredictable to knapp. Maybe it is more appropriate to say it seems to me different than Flint, Obsidian and Jasper which are different themselves but consistent in the piece of rock itself.
I do not use a Bone Flaker as you do. I have tried a very pointed Copper Flaker, a dullerCopper flaker and still find Dacite hinging more. I have become frustrated with it and it has sat in a box for at least 5-years. I keep looking at it wondering if I should give it another try? I am thinking of tying much lower Centreline on flake removal, but that won’t solve thinning.
Anything you have learned that you may be willing to share about knapping Dacite would be appreciated.

Thanks! I make sure to keep pressure flaking to a minimum on dacite because it hinges more. Percussion knapping works much better on it. Keep your angles tilted down and abrade your platforms more!

@@hansenator5000 Your advice makes sense to me. Dacite seems to like removal of “curved” flakes from heavily abraded platforms. Shorter thin flakes removed using less energy using pressure flaking is really prone to creating hinges. THX
