Thank you, Dr. Smith. I am sending this video to my son. He works loading a truck and already has hurt his back. You are lovely to share your knowledge.

Sadly more often than not I am missing and important step of engaging ur abs in the proper way too.
As the ab muscles have a big role in saving ur spine of injury, no?

You would never grasp a heavy box with that grip. Proper grip using the distal phalanges places most of the force on the FDP, preventing muscle strain of the weaker FDS and interossei/lumbricals.

What about the proper way to breath while lifting a heavy box like that? My son is drywall finisher and lifted heavy box of dryall mud compound an injured his lung , doctor said he caused an air leak when he lifted in his one lung.. he was in a lot of pain and discomfort and under doctors care no workimg for 5 days no lifting for a month.. so how does one breathe properly while lifting like this

Shouldn't your sons doctor know that? Im sorry about your son. Why did his lungs collapse when lifting heavy?
Again, I am sorry about your son.

@@LetsComment3 he never thought to ask the doctor at the time an the doctor never discussed any proper lifting technics with him.. my son said to me when he lifts he takes deeo breath and hikds it as he tries to prepare his body to lift heavy object.., an then he felt a big hit or pop like feeling to his chest , an immediate pain an shortness of breath .. i told him its good to prepare his body to lift an in my thoughts and suggestions is to not hold breath when lifting as he is creating build of pressure in his lungs and when he lifts it ads much much more pressure an thats why he blew out a pin hole in the edge of his one lung hence doctors terms “ air leak” lung never collapsed an the air leak stopped on its own but he was massively sore an barley move or walk for first few days , they gave him meds an off for 5 days an light duties no lifting for a month.. he is now back to work an doing ok but just taking it lightly as well.. so i was curious of how professionals suggest for breathing while lifting .. an if my theory on that is correct to keep breathing as lifting an not hold your breath .. thanks for you reply .. 👍

@@DarrensTruckzs I workout and if I do heavy lifting and want to catch my breath: I do squat as an example, when I have the weight on my shoulders and I am standing, I take comfortable deep breath on my way down and when I am going up again lifting the weight I breath out how I feel comfortable. If your son does that I don't think he should have a problem in the future.
      (Same with other exercises).
I prayed for your son! God bless you man!

So what of the hands? All that gripping makes them hurt. What is the proper way to grasp a package without hurting the hands?

It doesnt really matter for health as long as you can tolerate the pain, the pain will go away and not break you.
Like if you hurt your back, that pain will break your back, but just hands hurting is a temporary feeling and your hands heal.
