It was the Breakaways who were the 'vocal chorus' on Burt Bacharach's UK hit of 'Trains and Boats Planes'. They were the UK's top backing singers for years.
They sung back up for Petula Clark on songs DOWNTOWN, I KNOW A PLACE, ROUND EVERY CORNER, and A SIGN OF THE TIMES but on their own, they were just as smashing and talented: I got 8 of their songs on my IPod and THAT BOY OF MINE is one of them.
Never heard this before until I stumbled upon it on UA-cam a few months ago. How did this do on the British charts? Was it released in the United States? If so, I can't believe it didn't chart. This has "hit" written all over it. Great song.
This is a good song, and they really look good on stage - they're obviously experienced performers. They move in unison and face the correct cameras when they're supposed to. Plus, the background of those proto-psychedelic spinning discs!
I thought this was a cover of The Sherry's "That Boy of Mine". If you can find a clip of the latter, you will be amazed that it never became at least a minor hit.
Really? Wow. Such a same. I never heard of these ladies before but this song sounds good. Why didn't this group chart but other crappy groups and songs did? Not fair :o(
Long live the Breakaways and their great sound
Fantastic.
They were briefly in the Dudley Moore/Peter Cook movie “Bedazzled” dancing to Peter Cook’s “Dremble Wedge and the Vegetations”.
very underrated song from this era.. deserved more success

Granted that was not great music but it was fun and totally unpretentious. ❤
These ladies worked with Bacharach and many other big names.
@@stephenhowell5611 I have a lot of respect for back vocalists, especially since I watched “20 Feet from Stardom”.
@@zzzut See the Breakaways - Don't Go Breaking My heart clip ;)
Great voices and presence. They also made the chorus for "Question", sung by Sandra Barry. They are great!!!
If anyone has a video of "That's How It Goes" by the same group can they PLEASE load it up -- a magnificent record

Powerful voices...
these girls sang the vocals on burt bacharach's "trains and boats and planes"
Darn - never heard this before. I'm now on the hunt for a higher-fi version. This is really good! (Not news to the 41K views before mine....)
I'm wearing out my mp3 player listening to "Hey Joe" over and over just to hear their background vocals.
Thank you! I've been doing the same for years! It's hypnotic and ethereal; Hey Joe would not be the same without them....
Just wanted to see the girls that sang the backing vocals for Hendrix on "Hey Joe."
Me too
It's really quite wonderful. JH Exp. 1967.

Jimmi Jam ran with this song all the way to the castle in Romania. The movement then was momentous.
Does any footage of "That's How it Goes" exist?
they're on Hey Joe, Hendrix's first single
