My biggest takeaway from this video is that all the fish in Wyoming are big and super easy to catch😉 excellent video!
Hahaha. We had a really good day of fishing when we made this video, that's for sure.
Unlike New Zealand where they are bigger and harder to catch.
Videography 10/10...what a day on the water!
Gracias!
Hooksets are not free. They are a hard earned skill. There are so many types and ways and that's just for trout! Dry fly hook sets, streamer strip sets, indicator nymphing from a drift boat, trout spey (kinda don't do anything but kinda do...). I was catching rainbows on dries at a mountain pond yesterday. Took me a miss or two to dial in the timing. Such a cool series!
Yeah it's funny how they can eat differently depending on what they're eating/the mood they're in. Good observations.
Great info and easy to follow. Wish I had a wind problem hooking fish like this
Sometimes the fish make it look easy. Other times they arent as cooperative. haha
Really enjoyed this piece. Beautiful water & fish! Thanks!
Awesome. Glad you enjoyed it. Yup, one of our favorite places!
You hit the nail on the head!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Is it better to follow big fish down stream to stay close, or stay stationary and bring them to you when they are ready?
Beautiful. Love it. Thanks for sharing
Great tips!!!
Great video
Thanks Spencer. I finally caught my first two trout (both brownies 10-12”) last week after 2 years of trying. Now I’m hooked. I had 7 other misses with one getting off my line dancing on the water. I really think I was too excited and yanked the fly right out of their mouths as I usually had to untangled everything from the elm tree behind me or the honeysuckle vines to the other side. Good info to hear. And 👍to Diet Coke along with Coke Zero.
Would love to see a “how to get a fish to the reel” video… struggling with maintaining a tight line during that transition
Good question. We’ll add it to the list of videos to make. 💪🏽
Nice camera work releasing the fish, excellent light. 🫡
We're glad you enjoyed it! We definitely try to focus on the little details. Appreciate you noticing! 😎
Thank you guys for your videos ! It has helped me so much! Still learning!
Stoked to hear it!! Glad you’ve found them helpful.
The trout hookset is to get tension to the fly and get the fish on the tip of the rod as quickly as possible without pulling the fly away from them.
Act like it’s a fish until you’re sure it’s not.
Fight them to the bank - make them work in the current by turning their head. If you just lift up from above them all they have to do is sit. Turn them and make them swim.
Excellent narrator, content, and videography. Wow. Well done.
We really, really appreciate it!
Great info, and your hat is legit… sole reason for subscribing lol
In surf fishing we call it "finessing" the fish, saltwater fish have very soft mouths that's why we use circle hooks
Well honestly, not all saltwater fish have soft mouths the whole reason why certain states require circle hooks is because we allowed Karens to overrun the industry. And even then there are exceptions, in Florida you only have to use circle hooks when using live bait if you are fly fishing for tarpon for example you don't have to use a circle hook legally speaking.
I lost a huge cutty today, and wanted to get some tips.
As a native Brook trout fly fisherman I find this super help full the fish I hook are definitely over 10 inches and fight sooo hard 😂
Lol. Its not the size of the dog in the fight... its the size of the fight in the dog!
I noticed your rod is no longer in the video after you have the fish in the net. Where are you setting your rod after you have the fish in the net? Is it ok to set the rod in the water?
We usually place it on the bank. I’ve found the river will try to take it away downstream if you put it in the water.
I am so conditioned to the Wyo wind that I can not cast without it!🤣🤷🏻♀️🎣
Its great training isnt it! haha
I just need to get a better line that doesn't have a metric ton of memory, I could probably actually find line tension somewhere
Where did you get that hat???
Do you fight it any differently when you're using light tippet vs heavy?
Not really. The only difference would maybe be letting the fish run a bit more, and loosening the drag a bit, but the principles are still the same.
So do fly reels not have a drag system then? I’ve heard sometimes you have to manually palm the reel?
Most fly reels now have drag. Click and pawl reels like the Orvis Battenkill do not and you palm them.
10:23 You can measure a man's patience on his ability to lose a fish.
haha true that!
😅😅so true!!
7:22 bassmaster classic 😂😂
Yeah, in the EU lot of people laughts at bass fisherman when they see how they set the hook and fight fish.
Hopefully this covers keeping the fish from stealing my damn hopper when I'm about 5' from getting it in the net.
Don't give them the reel unless they earn it! If you reel in slack line, you give up control.
haha love this! Gotta earn it! 😂
muito bom!
like
Appreciate it!
do you american fly anglers ever keep the fish you catch? just asking, don’t mean it in a bad way or anything
Some people do, but the majority of fly anglers practice catch and release here in the US.
With respect your point on not holding the rod high……. I think what you are trying to do is hold the rod in a position that will engage the thicker, stronger part of the rod rather than the thinner, weaker tip. Is that correct?
Yep, that's it exactly!
Hello, I’m a new for the fly fishing. I’m musician, play violin and viola. I’m originally from Ukraine. In Ukraine fly fishing is not popular, I would like to introduce fly fishing for the Ukrainians and I need a support. I will be very appreciated for any help and support in this. I just got my orvis combo, I’m very low on the budget, and don’t know what kind of flys I need to have.
Will be very appreciated for any suggestions! Thank you so much for your understanding. I’m living in Delaware
Idaho fishing is miserable!!
Especially the Henry's Fork 😂
