Most finches are like that by nature, unfortunately. If you have a pair, it is near impossible, as they typically bond to each other. It is possible if you have a single finch, however it is extremely difficult if the bird was not hand-raised. There are some good guides and videos out there, I would definitely recommend doing your research before continuing to handle to make it less traumatic for the bird. You typically want to take it very slow, it would definitely be a few month process. Keep in mind that if they get too stressed, they can begin plucking and/or losing appetite.
