I have been looking for a great gardening video.. and here you are!.. I live in Toronto and I have ordered my coleus seeds. They should be here by March and can you give me some advice on starting the seed indoor for planting outside in late spring..it's Toronto so you never know what the temperature may be warm enough to plant. I think it would be 10c at night consistently? My next problem are my Dalia bulbs. Last fall I winterized them in the garage as recommended. I wanted to get them an early start so I brought them into the basement to plant in pots. I soaked them in temperate water before planting them in a mixture of mulch and soil allowing the stem to be at the very surface of the pot. I did not water and put them in a minimal basement light. They have been in the basement for about 2 weeks at a constant 18c. What do I do next ?
In PA our coleus got over 4 feet tall by the time the cold came. Luckily I cut some cuttings to take inside (they are in water). I guess you can't just cut them down to the ground and expect them to grow the following year.
My coleous look so good this year. They love it right now but it is so risky to keep them out haha Maybe in a week I will bring them in. I have them on my patio right now. Im in Portland Or. Thank you for the reminder
Yes you can. They won't thrive but they will survive. It does have to be a window with lots of direct sunlight. I kept my coleus tree near my south facing window and it survived the winter. Colors faded, didn't push much growth. Today it's 3ft tall and wide and very lush.
I have a few coleus caninus that I need to winter so they don't freeze. They're fairly large. Is it possible to repot them or do I need to take cuttings and start new?
Hi Cheryl!! 👋👋 You can definitely repot them or pot them up from where they are right now and bring them inside to treat them as indoor plants until next year when your outside temperatures get above 50-degrees consistently. Cuttings would work, too, and they will root in 2-3 weeks in just water. It's always a fun option. After they root in water, you can pot them. Hope that helps and thank you for watching! 😊😃
Great video! Thanks !
Thank you for this information , love the Coleus! !
Hi Diane! 👋 Thank you for watching! We love coleus, too!
Thanks for sharing 👍

Do you leave the stem cuttings in water all winter?

How to water these as indoor plants? From the bottom or top? Can you share a photo of your coleus on display in your home?
😊
Thanks for watching, Julie!
I enjoy your videos. I just have a question, Sean. Why do they need indirect sunlight? Can we not put them in direct sunlight by the window in winter?
