My brother JD recommended I check out your channel b/c I garden, so happy I did - I LOVE coleus, botany, sustainable practices, etc. Keep up the great work, new subby! 🌱✨
Hi I am a 68 year old that just got into coleus this year Already getting ready for next year You video have been helpful keep it up. Looking forward to a great project will try to get into cutting just found out not to let it flower and how to pinch back Thanhs Dora
Thanks so much! This is really helpful as most videos just talk about taking cuttings, but not how to cut them down to make them fuller in Spring! I have multiple cuttings that I have actually been taking throughout the summer (I took several last year and almost all of them died). So I wanted to make sure I had some actual plants before it gets cold here in Denver. If I have a single cutting and keep it in a 4-6" pot, will this be large enough for them? I have VERY limited space and am also hoping to grow some from seed, so am really crunched for space. I'm guessing it is not ideal, but I have not yet tried to overwinter a cutting (all of them last year were mother plants). Thank you!
Thank you 😍. Yes, that's good enough, you are just trying to save the plant through the winter. If it gets too big, just cut it back. Keep an eye on the water, smaller pots dry out faster
Very interesting and useful video............ My question is do you need such big pots to plant your coleus. I don't have the room. Will they survive in much smaller pots? Thanks!!!
I have gotten my neighbors coleus plants to try to overwinter and propagate. Never grown them before. Do they like being damp, drying before watering or what? Any more info that can help this be a success would be greatly appreciated!
Early this morning, I stumbled across your coleus video from this January, and I'm SO glad! Liked and subscribed! This is my first summer/fall of gardening, and I've got some beautiful coleus that I want to overwinter (Nashville, 7a). Thank you for this content! Also, I LOVE the sunny bay window where you had your coleus in the January 2022 video, and I wonder: was that cabinet/window seat-type spot original to the house, or did you have it built? I've got a nice bay window and would love to have a window seat or perhaps a nice area for my plants to spend the winter.
HELP! So I have the coleus that I rescued from the cold. I've kept it alive so far by watering it every day to keep the soil moist and it was working. The plant started showing new growth but now the leaves are started drying up and falling off. Well, some leaves are drying up and some are just falling off. Because of that, I need help. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I don't want my little project to die on me. Please give me any advice you may have!
One of the best over wintering videos of coleus
Thank you for the kind compliment! And thanks for watching.
Perfect timing. I just started pulling mine to bring in for the winter. I actually saved my cuttings to propagate for the next season. Thank you!
That's awesome, thank you. Are you planting them or saving them in the water rooted?
@@GardeningGays I am going to plant them. Hopefully they will take and there will be plenty of starts for next year.

Truly appreciate that, thank you so much
You’re very welcome 💚
Love to see progressive stages over the winter months see
Fell in love with Coleus this year and as a first year gardener, also learned about hardiness in Arkansas. Building a greenhouse ASAP! Great video.
Thank you so much 😍
They look great! I’m going to do this with the coleus you gifted me! Thanks again!
Love your Coleus videos. Very informative. Keep making more videos. Also your Coleus are beautiful.
Thank you so much 😍 😍

Happy we could help! Pinching is key to getting a nice full coleus and preventing it from getting leggy as it grows.
Love you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you so much
Thank you for sharing. Very interesting. Good job guys 💖
Thank you so much 😍

Thank you so much, we truly appreciate it. Size of the pit will determine how big your plant will grow, bigger the pie, bigger the plant
Thanks...... I want to overwinter about 8 plants, so room is a big concern. I will plant one in a bigger pot just for comparison.@@GardeningGays
You guys are great! I was given some rooted coleus to grow as a houseplant. What type of soil mix do you recommend? Thanks!
Most potting mixes are fine
@GardeningGays Thanks.

They like to stay wet but not damped, south facing window with plenty of light will be great for them

Thank you so much for subscribing. We're glad you found us.
We got lucky, that big window came with the house
Where do those pots come from and what size are they please?
They are from Dollar tree, I believe they are 1 gal
what type fertilizer do you use, or recommend, to feed the coleus through out the winter?
They are sensitive to over fertilizing, we use Espoma organic
@@GardeningGays Thanks
Are you using plastic or glass pots?
Plastic

Hello there, slow down the watering and only water once a week. Even skip a week to start. Too much water is just as bad as not enough water
Once the leaves have wilted... damage has already been done.
