    This is the car that you can mod under the hood, then do burnouts in your kid's school's parking lot and not get pulled over. Love sleepers, especially sleepers LS swapped from the factory. Too bad, I seem to be in a minority there

      If you did any burnouts out the front of any schools and got caught, the car would be crushed full stop and or lose your license have to go to court and also first timers will have the car impounded for 1 month and also lose your licence for at least 3 months full stop ? due to the hoon laws in australia ? Even F1 Driver Lewis Hamilton did a burnout in a Merc and his car got impounded, i dont know if he lost his licence, but i know the car got impounded and he had to pay a massive fine as well ?

      GM didn't promote the SS. the reason they sold them was a kind of innercorparation deal. I'd sure own one if I could. Auto or Manual.

      You would not need to mod it if they had also sold the Commodore HSV in the USA. Double the price of the SS but you had a BMW6 equivalent in all ways for a hell of a lot less than a BMW6. The last one produced was 522kw. Better interior, handling, brakes etc.

Not as fast as the Charger SRT going straight but felt 1,000lbs lighter with far superior handling & braking. We now have 90K on our 2014 SS Sedan and still love it as much as day one.

    The SS is probably the most underrated car out today.For guys like me with 2 kids I've got the 4 doors I need and a 6speed manual i love.As you can tell headers and a tune really wake this thing up and on top of that heads and a cam really help.I actually have a cheap Sloppy Mechanics spec cam,CNC ported heads and a small shot so far and its faster than my old race car from ten years ago.I really wanted to go turbo but for resale and ease I'm waiting on a Pro Charger F1-A blower now. I lost a little HP when I changed pistons because I dropped the compression a little over half a point but not to worry since I'll be maxing the F1-A out shortly ;-)

      They come stock with 415 hp and 400 tourque or the other way round magna ride, safety features on par, later models come with auto revers park, they have cruise control 6 speed manual and automatic versions, traction control can be completly switched off and it will slide out easy if you think that thing is crazy you should see what we have down under and the variants they sold as stock here some would flog the balls off a hellcat

    My 2015 SS, was modified, automatic, lowered, beefed up trailing arms, water/Methonal injectors, LSA supercharger 8 PSI, air/oil separator, intercooler, gauges; oil & fuel pressure and Boost. The heavy 4 door sedan drives like a sports car with Magnetic shocks and control set to track mode. Stock exhaust is wonderful with Boost at 4,500 and WOT. I had to sell my 2007 Z06 due the leg issues driving the stick shift. This was the replacement. I miss the Vette, but not much. This is comfortable, easy to get in and out, takes 4 to dinner, and still whomp Mustangs in the street. What I need now is a C3 Corvette to restomod with a LS3.

  • @manowar5516
    @manowar5516 6 років тому +122

    The confusion here is how the SS stacks up against the SRT Charger etc. What will make the Holden cars more collectible is the platform, drivetrain, and more superior handling than any SRT sedan.
    Having said that, the SRT looks better inside and out, and the 392 makes more power *from the factory* . However outside of that, the SRT Charger can't compete price wise, nor can the factory 392 compete head to head against the LS motor once the modding starts.
    The SS has the ability to be used as a track weapon. SRT Charger, 😅 nope.
    I like them both but the SRT doesn't have Magnaride, doesn't have the LS motor, and doesn't come with an optional 6-speed manual or the standard safety options the SS offers.
    And the SS is only a bolt-on blower away from beating a factory hellcat. There are tons of YT videos proving this.
    At the end of the day though the SRT wins. It's still in production, while anyone who owns an SS should plan on keeping it because it will go up in value before any standard 392 SRT Charger will.

    It seems not many Aussies - Australians - have seen this yet. I can add some info. This car is the last of it's type, ever. Australia isn't making this type of car anymore, this was the last model released after ~70 years of Holden (GM) & ~60 years of Ford making such cars in Australia, for the Australian market. The two models were the Holden Commodore & the Ford Falcon. The SS Commodore is what you see here as the Chevy SS, we could get this engine in much less equipped cars. We slowly stopped buying them as the years went on but when SUV's became popular everyone stopped buying large sedans altogether, so first Ford then Holden (GM) announced they would end production of the cars. So yeah RIP.

    The Pontiac GTO was a rebadged Holden Monaro Coupe, and had dismal sales as well. My city's police department bought a few SS cruisers.
    Most of them got wrecked because the officers were used to the front wheel drive Impala 9c1 cars, and because the SS looking so similar to the Impala, they'd forget which type they were driving and wipe them out!

The remainder were put into regular service. This information was relayed to me by a friend who is a shift commander in my district, after I saw him driving one, fully marked. Why would this be hard to believe? It's not any different from the Police Package Dodge Chargers....and there's a shitload of those in just about every state.

      @Impalaman1968 6 років тому

      Davis Jones. No, they have quite a few Caprice 9C1 cars, and regular Impalas too. Plus a whole bunch of random vehicles for UC work.
      The ones I was talking about are indeed SS cars. Like I said, they only bought a handful of them. With the exception of the detective's cars, the other ones got torn up quickly. A lot of the Caprices met the same fate too. Drivers that were used to the FWD Impala, weren't ready for the RWD versions. They'd forget which one they were driving, and in the heat of the moment, would end up wiping out. Sad but true! Lol!

      Exactly, the SS is an okay car due to the LS3 but it is not even close to being better than an M5, I have a 2009 Z06 and a 2014 M5 and the M5 is much better in EVERY area over the SS. I have had a few SS's try to run me in the Z06 which is stupid, they have zero chance even modded (note that I am modded to though, roughly 635 at the wheel). Not hating on the SS, I could like anything with an LS engine in it, but comparing it to an M5 is crazy.

      @shanejackson4978 6 років тому

      The GTO was built on the Australian platform as it was made in Australia and exported to the USA. The SS is made in Australia. We have had them for years. I am an Aussie and I drive a SS Ute with a 5.7 LS1! Had it since 2001 and I still love it. 19 inch wheels, Mod ECU, headers and 3 inch exhaust, tuned box, spins in 2nd and spins in 3rd and 400 HP. The GTO was called a Monaro here. And the SS you see is actually a factory car. We have a mob here called HSV, Holden Special Vehicles who modify the SS and the best is a GTS with 505 HP. No longer built as people here in Australia now buy SUV's, Hilux's, Ford Rangers and Shitbox 4cyl's. SO Holden and Ford no longer build here. So if you want a V8, you gotta spend big on a BMW or Merc AMG.

    Ok i'm an aussie and i have a late 2013/my14 VF SSV Redline, Fantale orange in color, 6spd manual, heavy duty clutch, solid flywheel, coil overs and 20's with a fair few internals and big cam, big headers and twin 3inch stainless exhaust, produces 700nm at the wheels at the moment!
    I don't know if the USA got different engines from factory than we did but if not, then that being a 2014 which is series 1, has an LS2 in it which is a 6.0ltr, not the 6.2ltr LS3 that only started coming out in the series 2, plus if it had an LS3 it would have a badge saying that on the front bar!
    HSV cars have had the LS3 6.2 since 2008 and only started getting the LSA engine in the series 2 of the VF! Like i said, i don't know if things were different in the US though!
    As for being collectible, since they are not making anymore of them, eventually they will be worth money, the Redlines will be worth the most out of the SS, i had an SS back when i was young that i paid $13k for, yet to buy the same car now that is screwed will cost over $20k and we all thought they would never be worth shit!

    • @TheSslover

      spinna6996 , VE/ VF SS’s never had the LS2. They have L98’s, L76’s/ L77’s... can people please stop confusing them, because there are some key differences.
      For example, the L98’s, L76’s/L77’s have the same heads and intakes as the LS3.
      You also stated that only the series 2 VF’s had the LSA. Well, the series 1’s did, just only in the GTS.

Over here its an acquired taste...but I do like that it blends in for the most part. If ford took a car like this and used their eco boost V6 would make for a fun 4 door too.
