To me, the Acolyte duels feel like a real fight, while the prequels feel like a fight between people who can foresee their opponent’s move ten seconds in advance. This totally makes sense given the difference between the power levels of characters between the show and prequels.

It's the best fight and choreography Disney's given us since ahsoka vs anakin in the world between worlds. Wouldnt say its better than Nick Gillard but i love the fights in the Acolyte

  • @rawleigh729

No I would say prequels felt like a real battle where moves were ment to attack and defend, Disney has shown they don’t want that kinda lightsaber fighting, the ahsoka fight and this most recent fight are the better fights from Disney tho

Yeah the Acolyte fight i feel blows Ahsoka out of the water. The Acolyte fight felt like all attack, Qimir was trying to take them all out!

The prequels are also an elaborate dance with pointless swings and purposely missing your attacks to keep the fight going. So many moments you can slow down and make fun of. But nah its nosalgia at this point and star wars fans only rip on disney now days.

I also love that you mentioned the choreography brilliance of Nick Gillard. I wish that he too had a Padawan that would be providing a beacon of hope inside of lightsaber fight choreography but alas - it's not here. There can be no denying that this battle was good, but imagine if a different editor had given it to us in a larger sandwich rather than a series of snapshot Lady fingers delivered to us across three different interest points? Imagine what could have been?

At 5 minutes You got to one of the most vital points I think a lot of people miss. The investment that we had into Obi-Wan and Anakin is one of the most solidified, robust relationships fans have with Star Wars. When you look at the acolyte - what fostering support do we have for any of these characters to want to like any of them? The answer is none and that is easily the largest failure of the people that develop this program. In addition to the short episodes that couldn't possibly allow time for a fan to latch on, the pacing of the editing especially in this episode instantly jerks one out of any potential pathos for what we're watching. Inside the duel of the Fates and heroes, we are given an immersive experience that we - in my opinion - simply can't be given again.

    • @starwarssith66
      @starwarssith66  2 місяці тому

Yes exactly. The build of of Obi and Anakins relationship literally started in 1977 and then continued through a 3 movie prequels build up. That time and pay off for another battle is impossible to be met.

This comment implies you dislike something about the show without having actually watched the show. Why do you dislike something you haven't seen? It's pretty good, episode 5 was great.

    • @realmach5

@@jackanapes396 Even though I haven't watched Star Wars since TFA I still watch reviews for all Star Wars things that come out(I do still love the original trilogies and the extended universe). I was so disappointed after that movie that I haven't had any desire to watch anything else Star Wars as long as Disney owns it.
I think I did watch most of Rogue One at a family member's house some time ago, I thought it was fine which the reviews I had heard for it were good.
I just know what I like when it comes to Star Wars stories and I know what Disney is typically pushing out of the door, and pathetic story telling with forgettable characters and dialogue does not interest me.

I thought the fights were sick like you had said though. I think it would have been better if it had the JW score behind It I love the prequels, but the biggest thing with the lightsaber fights is that they are trying to block one another constantly. It didn't feel like that with this fight and that's why I love it so much.

Did you notice in the beginning of the episode, when qimir was fighting Jedi on the right, the Jedi on the left nowhere near him, were waving their lightsabers around for no reason at all💀

Prequels are still quite a bit better. This was the best Disney has given us though. SWTOR trailers are probably the best lightsaber fights I’ve ever seen but they are animated.

Dude I couldn’t agree more, nothing can beat the legendary score, the legacy characters and Nick Gillards incredible choreography… but the acolyte was the closest thing you could get to that level!! Loving it so far

The fight scenes were great and definitely made up for the questionable parts of the episode. I mean, how far did Qimir toss Sol for him to take so long to return? Is it that the higher your Jedi rank, the further you get tossed?
I really like the inclusion of new weapons and fighting tactics such as the use of the cortosis bracelets and helmet to disable lightsabers, Qimir's short lightsaber (or dagger?) and the killing of 2 at one go by dragging one into the blade with the Force
I also like Manny Jacinto's portrayal, which made his character menacing but still make the dark side look cool

I think the choreography team killed it. Disney has missed the mark a lot with lightsabers not feeling like lightsabers. Stripping it down purely to choreography and ignoring plot, I personally think The Acolyte is the best fight in all of Star Wars because there was intent and skill. It didn't feel like a dance which the prequels are guilty off, not to say they're not insanely fun, they're incredible and the talent is simply breathtaking. But as you said it's a combination of everything, score and story is important to elevating the fight. Which is precisely why as an entire piece Duel of the Fates and Anakin v Obi-Wan are still the best. Editing also plays a major part and I felt like they had too many intercut moments so the acgion didn't breathe as much as you'd want. But choreography alone it was nice to see so much intent with every single swing of a blade. Introduce more flare and really create an intense story behind the fight and you have absolute perfection. Perhaps in the final episode they'll have some story and emotional steaks that setup the fight. This is a very positive sign for lightsaber duels in future.

It was amazing, but duel of the fates and episode 3 duels just can't be beaten. Idk if you maybe can make an edit or someone did it already but I tried playing battle of the heroes music over flights in episode 5 also while oisha and Mae were talking. It made it so much more epic imo. What this fight was missing was music as epic
