Navigating CUN Airport - UPDATES! The immigration forms have changed again!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 сер 2024
- This is an INFORMATIONAL video about arriving at the Cancun airport for international travelers. This is for informational purposes only.
This new immigration method looks to be a pilot project in order to streamline people getting in and out of the airport so we expect it will continue to be modified as they work out the glitches.
We will keep posting updated videos as we visit the area to help keep you current on what paperwork is required by immigration and customs. It seems to be a constantly evolving system coming out of the global pandemic and trying to accommodate the vast number of travelers visiting the Cancun area.
Personally, we are going to continue to fill out the immigration forms from the Mexican government website and keep them in our carry-on luggage, just in case they decide they change things again and want the information.
We hope this is helpful to you. As always please do your own research and, when in doubt, contact your airline for the most up to date immigration information.
Thanks for watching and please consider subscribing to our channel. We really appreciate it.

Just arrived Cancun March 9th. A very pleasant total airport and custom’s experience. The customs line took about 10 minutes with the official stamping our passports and passing us through.
We left Cancun on March 17 with equally good experiences. The Delta agent checked our passports and then a private company’s agent asked us a few questions about where we stayed and did we enjoy our visit to Mexico. We waited about 3 or 4 minutes in the hand luggage “TSA” type line. All went very smoothly and efficiently. We walked to our departure gate and flew home back to LAX. Truly a good and safe airport experience.
I'm so glad to hear your experience at the airport was a good one and that you enjoyed your visit to Mexico. 😊
@JerryZonis Did you have to fill out any forms or was it just a passport check/stamp and go?
thank you for the update! This is helpful as my family and friends we have a group trip planned for July 2023 so I am following your tips. Thank you again for keeping up updated!
My pleasure. I'll keep you updated.
I am wondering if this a precursor to e-gates as most visitors to Cancun have an e-passport. Who knows. 🤪
@@newtravelescapes thanks again we will be a group of about 30 to 35....so whatever tips I can post will be so helpful
@@RB-gt8bf If anything comes up that I can answer feel free to ask.
I'm not a travel agent or anything like that but we have traveled as a group of 21 (adults and kids) to Cancun a couple of years ago and it went really well.
What resort did you choose?
@@newtravelescapes Thank you so much! We have selected the Riu Palace Peninsula for 5 nights/6 days
@@RB-gt8bf sounds fun! 😀 Next week's video is about our favourite transfer companies to get you from the airport to the resort. It might be helpful info if your package didn't come with included transfers.
I would also advise contacting the resort 7 to 10 days before your arrival with bedding, location, and room requests. It is hit or miss if they honour them but it can't hurt to try.
Excellent video..great narrating..new subbie here 🇨🇦very informative!
Thank you!!!! 🙂
Travelled there in November and getting through customs was very quick!!! They were very nice too. Now that shark area was insane! I'm in a scooter and I just put my dark sunglasses on and said nothing!
I didn't like how close they came up to me!
The shuttle and taxi area was busy but we found our shuttle and the driver had us singing and dancing the entire ride!!!
Great to hear!😊 Yes, I REALLY dislike that time-share shark hallway too. I guess it must work for them somehow but I am at a loss for who would by from them. 🤔
Shuttle area is always busy. The drivers call it "the jungle" but I have found most of them to be kind and helpful.
Hope you had a good vacation! 🙂
Was there a red light green light system still?
@@amyrobbins1986 Nope. There wasn't. 🙂
Thank you I've never been out of the country this helps so much
Thank you! It may help to check out our most recent video for 2023. They have just installed EGates for E-passports and customs has even become more streamlined.
This video is taken in Terminal 3. The 2023 is taken in Terminal 4. There is a good chance you will be flying into one of these so hopefully it helps make things looks familiar when you arrive.
Avoid those time share people 🙂
We did the same thing first week in September. I was arguing with imagination lady as she kept my papers and just stamped my passport . And coming back was pretty easy at the tix counter so I’d say I hope thy don’t change it .
It was definitely easier for sure! Felt strange though. Lol! I wonder if e-gates will be coming soon.
My wife and I were there in October. No paperwork needed coming or going. Only thing was a passport check before boarding by an airport employee
Thanks for the update 👍🙂
How long did it take you to get threw for departure of Cancun?
@@albertdeltoro5516 not long at all actually. I departed cancun again on Friday.
I did carry-on luggage only so I checked in online the night before. I printed off my boarding pass from the machine and went straight to security.
Security moved fairly quickly this time but the lines were much longer in September. Overall, I would say I was shopping for tequila in the duty free store in under 25 minutes.
So no customs form?
No
Thank you for the information. I will be flying into Cancun in 3 weeks : I will print out the immigration form just in case ... :
I just got back Friday. I didn't need it.
I tried to print the forms as a backup (as I usually do). 🙂 But they have removed Cancun from the list of airports on the pull down menu for the online form so you can't go past that point on the form. I wasn't able to print it and it turned out that once again, I didn't need it. Yay!
Immigration was faster than baggage claim. 😁
I usually have a paperclip on my passport to hold the form to my passport. If they arent doing that then I'll use it to mark the page they stamp.
Great idea!!
We came back from Cancun on 9/17 and did online check in without checking bags so we went right to security. Our passports were verified at the gate with no delay. I asked as we came into the country about the form and the agent kindly informed me that everything is online now, I was asked about the purpose of our trip. Also, please note that they are “stopping” you before you head to security to pay the Visitax but they are only passing out info, not verifying it. My family paid it just in case. Masks are still required in the airport. Staff are loose about it when you arrive but you are not allowed to security without one.
Good information! Thanks!
When we came home (9/10/22) they we checking if we paid visitax. A simple yes or no answer was acceptable.
They also won't let you sign in to the airport wifi without paying the visitax. It is not a lot of money in the grand scheme of vacation expenses.
We too, saw a lot of disgruntled passengers being turned away in the tsa line and having to go buy masks in the airport convenience stores. They are still pretty serious about masks mandates for departures.
I am wondering if the new system is a precursor to e-gate machines. ? 🤔
hello what site is the form located on. I am leaving Friday for Cancun form Texas and everyone is saying they will provide the form. This is really stressing me out . helppppppppppppp

I didn’t know the stamp was the FMM. Thought I had to go back to immigration to get the paper one. My first time alone in Mexico. No paper to lose.
Nice! 😊
Hopefully you will do an update now with e-gates being used in terminal 3.
Actually I'm already working on it for this week 🙂
Thanks for the information. I’m going this month. I have lots of stamps on my passport so let’s see what happens
So far, I am hearing they are still just stamping your passport and you are on your way. 🙂 Who knows.
My gut feeling is that they may be waiting to install e-gates to streamline things but it is just a guess.
Have a great trip! 😁
Thanks for video!
Great video! Thank you!
Thank you
I have a trip there soon and I want to see the details
Went on-line… currently one does not need the tourist-visa. December ‘22
Yeppers! I was just in Cancun last week and it is not even an option any longer from the on-line immigration portal. Depending on where you are entering from, of course. (I used to print it off as a back-up just in case when entering from Canada or USA.)
They tell me it is a test project in 3 airports to see how it works. How long they will be "testing" it is anyone's guess. 🙂
When you use the electronic entry system you don't get your passport stamped. Give them the printed receipt they do not check your passport stamps.
Yeppers! The new EGates have changed everything. 😊
do you know if the priority pass lounges are open still?
If you mean in Cancun then they were in Terminal 4 when we were there a couple of weeks ago. Although, they are not fancy and you need to book your spot in advance. There are rarely walk-ins allowed.
so we do not have to go through customs
We always have to go through customs. Immigration can now be done through the E Gates or the regular lines. We do have an updated video showing current changes at the airport. ua-cam.com/video/npz73tflAJY/v-deo.htmlsi=iFpdPRnj5NBWC0kk
Hope this is helpful. 😊
Going to Cancun in March. Have prescriptions I need to take. I read that my doctors need to write a letter in spanish for each medicine. Has anyone taken meds to Cancun and did you have to go through all that?
We didn't have to go through that. Sorry. Ask TSA may have some better answers.
We do have to take an epic pen with us and for that, it needs to still have the prescription label on it with the person's name matching their passport.
thanks for the updated info, u r awesome
Thank you so much!!!
It has been updated even more for 2023 (the changes have been crazy🤪) with the addition of E-gates in some of the terminals. Check out the video we did in January 2023.
Tried to feel out the form online 3 times on 3 different browsers on two different computers and keep getting a captcha error. We can't get around it. Has anyone else had this issue??
Mine seems to be working fine. I'm sorry but I have no idea why you are getting an error.
Please tell me the site so I can try to fill it out. I am stressed going on vacation lol
Can u fly from tijuana to cancun without a passport?
Honestly, I'm not sure. I would ask your airline.
Personally, I would take a passport just in case (if you have one). My brother is a pilot and he tells me that if they have to divert to a different airport (in a different country) because of weather or mechanical you may need a passport to get off the plane. Hopefully, it would never happen but if it does you might be better to have one.
If you don't have a passport I would check with your airline and see what they advise. 😊
Thanks a lot for the update! You mentioned there are a lot of good transfer companies, how do you find them and are there any particular ones you'd recommend? We're going next Friday and actually staying at an Airbnb, still debating on renting a car, def trying to avoid cabs, but we don’t have too many other options. Btw, what's an average for a cab ride to Cancun? Thank you!!!
Hi! I did a separate video about our favourite transfer companies at Cancun airport. Check that one out on our chanel for more details.
I would suggest looking at USA Transfers. If you look on their site they have airbnb options and You can add a stop at a grocery store to stock up on supplies on your way. Their app is pretty user friendly and they have a lot of different options to help you out. If you don't see what you are looking for you can chat online with them or call using the app. I have found them VERY reliable.
I haven't taken a cab in a few years so I'm not up on current pricing. Always get a price established BEFORE you get in a can in Mexico.
Have a great time!! 🙂
Any recommendations on reputable transport co.?
Yes, we really like USA transfers and Kalido. 😊
We did a whole video on our top 5 and what perks the different companies offer depending on what you are looking for, if it helps.

Can tourists from.the UK use the e-gates?
As far as I know, not yet. But I expect that to change soon.
Ok thank you
How long were you allowed to stay in Mexico when immigration stamped your passport?
I believe it was good for 180 days for most people, but your airline should know for sure depending on where you are coming from.
Gatwick and Manchester Airport.
Thank you for great information! What is that form called so I can print to have as well, just in case. Thank you!
Hi! They have changed the forms yet again. We were not able to print out a "just in case" copy on our latest trip as they have removed the Cancun airport option from the pull-down menu on the immigration form page.
It has gone all digital for many travelers. I don't know where you are coming from but most arriving travelers don't need any paperwork any longer. We just put out a new Cancun airport video based on our most recent trip for 2023.
It is crazy keeping up with the recent changes but that video may help :)
@@newtravelescapes Thank you!
Very helpful! Thank you! Quick question. Im planning a trip to Queretaro from Austin. However my layover is in Cancun for 12hours and I’m thinking of going to a hotel and then coming back. Any recommendations on how to schedule that? Uber? Taxi?
Thanks!
Personally, I would pick a Cancun airport hotel. Fairfield and Courtyard are very close by, maybe 1.5 miles or 2.5 kms ish. 😉
They say they have a free shuttle but I would confirm that in advance. They are close enough to simply order a taxi when you exit the airport.
You can see in some of my video footage the taxi stands are right when you exit the airport and they are the legit taxis. Don't get one inside the terminal. It's a scam.
I would price out a taxi rather than wait for the shuttle so as not to waste time and have the hotel arrange one for you back to the airport or confirm their free shuttle can take you at the time you want .
Always get a taxi price first before you get in the cab. It should be cheap because the hotels are so close.
Hope that helps a bit. 😊
Which AI would you say has the best sushi selection and variety?
That's a tricky one. There are several resorts that have nice sushi options as part of their all-inclusive.
For adults only resorts that I have been too, I would say that Le Blanc has one of the best sushi restaurants for selection and variety.
Beloved is also one of my favourites but their sushi is served in an outside lounge. They don't have a huge variety but the atmosphere is unique.
Both Excellence Playa Mujeres and Excellence Riviera Maya do a nice job on their sushi but it is part of their larger Asian restaurant "spice" menu. I do order a dinner of only different sushi rolls at both resorts though.
Most of the Secrets resorts have a good Asian menu with some great sushi options.
There are a lot of options. I would suggest checking out the online menus of the resorts you're interested in and see if their menus appeal to you. 🙂
Can you flight number when you arrive for departure
When you arrive at the airport for your departure you can use the automated machines (for most airlines) to input your information and print your boarding pass and bag tags if you need then. 🙂
Hi there, good info. You said they aren’t allowing drones. How do you know? What happens if you bring one? As well, can you clarify the visitation please. It only needs to paid when your leaving, right? Thank you.
Yes, Visitax payment can be made when you are departing.
There are numerous sites talking about drones in Mexico. Basically, as of 2021, drones of any size are not allowed with travel into Mexico unless you are a citizen. There can be confiscation of your drone or $ fines.
droneblog.com, drone-traveller.com,
Hopefully, this changes soon but at the moment I personally wouldn't risk it.
Hi Nancy; Thanks for the update, you mentioned customs "no drones allowed"...really?
Yep, it is strange to me but last I checked customs does not allow any non- Mexican citizen to bring in a drone. I have no idea why. If you're a citizen you're good to go.
Here is a link to some info about it.
uavcoach.com/drone-laws-in-mexico/
I think there may be exceptions for businesses but you will likely have to jump through some hoops to get permission.
Hope that helps a bit. 🙂
@@newtravelescapes Yes I read that, thanks. Do all the Cancun Terminals have a final X-ray check with the red/green button? We flew Sunwing into Terminal 4, which had this, but we are flying Air Canada which I think is in Terminal 1, not sure from your video if this terminal has this check? Assume they would be all the same?
@@BobLang They were not using the red/green light system in Terminal 3 the last few times I have flown in there on Air Canada. (As recently as September 2022).
I am flying into terminal 4 on Monday with Air Transat so we'll see if they still use the red light / green light there and what the other differences are. 🙂
Not red light / green light in terminal 4 any longer. Guess they have done away with it. 🙂
will be there in 4 weeks
I'll make a connection flight at Cuncun Airport, do I need a transit visa?
It's possible you may but I'm not certain. Your airline should let you know exactly what forms and visas you need depending on where you are heading and they should have sent you info about it when you booked or shortly thereafter.
Excellent video. Question, what about the Quintana Roo tourist usage fee (244 MEX)? Is this still a requirement?
Thank you! 🙂
They ask that you pay it before departing. It is still a bit convoluted. I'm departing Cancun Friday so I'll see how it goes this time. In September no one was collecting it.
I just left Cancun airport from Terminal 4 and still no was collecting the visitax or asking for proof you had paid it.
Visitax still required at departure??
They are still asking for it but on our last trip no one was checking to ensure we had paid it. It seems like it is a bit of an honour system at this point.
I expect that will change, but there is no sign of it being enforced yet.
Oh so this was before the very latest change: fully automated "E" Gates for Americans, Canadians and Mexicans.
Yes, we try and do a video each time we visit showing if something has changed or we arrive into a different terminal.
someone please tell me the site for the form I need for customs. someone told me I need to download verifly so they know who I am. My 1st time out of the country and I am so stressed. videos say don't print and fillout they won't take the form they will provide it. Now the new video is saying everything is online now 😩

Try starting with this page. Start filling in the form and you should be able to print it when complete.
Hope this helps. 🙂
You don’t need it any more. They just look at you passport and stamp it no paper work at all. Went 9-29-22 to 10-6-22 no papers at all.
Dear the imigration is not good there I visit the Cancun clear my all documents they deport me and the behavior is very bad
That is sad to hear. 😕
Kon sa passport tha Visa kon sa tha
Hello Miss, I have a question. My name is Gurpreet Singh. I am from India. I am currently in Lithuania (EU) for my 3 year Study program. Can I travel to Cancun of tourism purposes on my multiple Entry Schengen valid visa ? I also have (TRP) resident permit of Lithuania. And also do I need to fill the FMM form before traveling ? It would be such a help for me if you can clear my doubts about all these questions🙂
I'm sorry Gurpreet. I really don't know the answer to your visa allowances and I don't want to give you bad information.. I would recommend checking with the Mexican consulate. They should have the answers you need.
@@newtravelescapes okk thank you for your kind Response😊
Bhai aage kya hua kuch btao pls maine bhi aise hi jana hai mexico Austria to mexico direct flight
So basically nothing changed since January 2022…
Paperwork has changed since January 2022.
You no longer get the immigration forms on the plane.
You can no longer print them off in advance online if Cancun is your destination. The pull down option for Cancun is gone (not so for most other airports)
It has become a digitally based immigration with electronic passports and it is also a different process depending on which country you are coming from.
Immigration is MUCH MUCH faster now than the first half of 2022. It takes longer to get your baggage than go through immigration now.
And the "lovely" red light/green light is gone. Yay!
Is it the same procedure for jamaican?
I can't honestly say. I have not been to Jamaica since before covid so I'm not up to date on their airport procedures. I'm hoping to get back there in the Fall, (if all goes well). 🙂
@@newtravelescapes no I meant if for Jamaicans to enter Mexico is it the same procedure or we have to fill it out online
@@Daniel-rd4sm my apologies for misreading your question.
I don't believe you need a tourist visa but here is a link that may be helpful.

Depends on how long you are staying and if you are there on business or pleasure. The info on the site should point you in the right direction. Also, your airline should know for sure, what paperwork you need to visit Cancun. Airlines usually send you a link to the information and entry requirements.
