The Hunters are legends.
The look of absolute joy on your faces was priceless! Lol
The 80's was an incredible time for music in Australia. There are way too many bands to mention.
There's nothing like seeing the Hunters in a packed room of blokes singing, "you don't make me feel like I'm a woman anymore". Haha
Great reaction guys!
If you want Aussie punk, The Saints are what you need to listen to. They released their first song before the punk movement in the UK. Formed in 1973.
Agree.. stranded or know your product
Perhaps suburban boy even..Dave Warner..there's even an old INXS song..
Apart from the proto punk of The Stooges and MC5, I rate The Saints as the first legit punk band.
there is not many reactions to Hunters & collectors they are so good such an underrated band !!!
Love the white HR Holden. I had a green one in the late 80's. Wish I still had it but traded it for an 85 Cortina of all things. Will regret it forever, we all make stupid decisions when we are young. I always loved the Hunters, saw them live many times back then.
Love the old Holdens. My first car was a clapped out burnt orange HQ. Ugly as sin but I loved it to death.
Actually I believe this was a 1965 HD, one model before HR. The HR had a slightly different grille with small park lights in it next to main headlights and had Large Vertical tail lights. This one had the smaller horizontal tail lights of the HD. The body panels are almost identical. I had a 1966 HR Panel Van for a while. Great car, wish I still had it.
My first car was a '64 EH I wished I still had that. 😂
I love this song. Such a beat and the horns! The Hunters were a 9 piece band which included the horns.
And their long term sound guy was counted as a member of the band on all albums.
They had some really awesome songs, some commercial songs and just some strange songs that seemed like they went sideways.
I don’t know that I’d classify this as punk. I remember bopping to this as a teen. It was played on solid rotation on the radio so I’d call it more pop, but still a banger
Agree not punk just good ol Aussie pub rock.
Yeah not punk at all, Aussie pub rock. Maybe The Slab or Talking to A Stranger has punk overtones but not this one.
Not pop as such, just rough good old Aussie pub rock at it's finest.
The Australian pub rock bands of the 1980,s was one of music industries best kept secrets its unfortunate that the rest of the world didn't really get to hear it at the time.
"Belly of the Beast"! Wow lady, that sounds like a Humunguous title for another "Hunters & Collectors" song. Love it! Belly of The Beast.
classic old school hunters, didnt appreciate them at the time, but sure do now
Ps the Horns of Contempt are amazing. Can you Imagine and Aussie pub, with guys singing you dont make me feel like I’m a woman anymore. Aah those were the days.
The lead singer of H+C is Mark Seymour. His little brother, Nick, was/is in Crowded House. The Seymours are Aussie music royalty.
Mark Seymour the singer of the Hunter's brother Nick is the bass player in the Band Crowded House, just a slightly talented family
Going to a Hunters and Collectors gig and hearing 1000 men shouting "you dont make me feel like I'm a woman anymore" is a unique experience.
Love the Hunners (thats the nickname we give them here). Genuine hard rock band, with very personal lyrics and a kickass horn section makes them unique. They arent punk though.
NOT punk rock just great Aussie Pub Rock.
Hunnaaaaaaaaaas!
That HR Holden is a gem
Wish I still had the perfect one that I had in 1980.
Yep not wht we think of as punk, pub rock, but a great track
For years and years I defended this song. I said: "No, you listen. The line begins with 'she said.' He's quoting." Then I heard an interview with Mark Seymour and he said: "Yeah, I just wanted to see a bunch drunken blokes in a pub yelling, 'you don't make me feel like I'm a woman anymore.'"
😂😂😂
Certainly did that a few times.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Typical Aussie humour. In an interview he actually said that after returning tired and worn out from touring, his girlfiend sat on him, stuck her finger into his chest as she bawled him out. He really wanted to use that in a song, and one day he overheard an office argument where the woman said, "You don't make me feel like I'm a woman anymore!" He connected the two, and a great song was born.
But yes, drunk Aussie blokes shouting "You don't make me feel like I'm a woman anymore!" is hilarious.
No idea how he sang that in pubs with a straight face.
Awesome that you reacted to that and I'm glad you did the original video ❤️
I had such a crush on Mark Seymour❤
Ooh me toooo. Still do
Ooh me too.... still do
Anyone who thought H&C was a punk band are insane…one of Australia’s greatest bands & my all time favourite
Aussie Pub Rock ... can't be beaten! But these bands would play anywhere. I remember turning up one day to Uni in the mid 80s and there was a tent on a lawn and I wandered into the tent just in time to make it to a two hour Hoodoo Guru's show. In a tent. On a lawn. At Uni. That's what it was like in the 80s in Australia.
Hunters and Collectors are not just a great Aussie band; they are one of the greatest bands of all time. Say Goodbye is off their incredible, seminal album, Human Frailty. Every track on this album is God tier. The whole album is not only a must listen; it is a must own.
hey guys do yourselves a favour and have a listen to another great Australian band from the 70's / 80's 'The Saints' - pioneers of punk in the mid 70's they predated the Sex Pistols in the UK. Anyhow 2 fantastic songs to look up are 'I'm Stranded' 1976 and 'Know your Product' - 1978. Peace.
This is 40 years old
Yeah I've never seen H&C as punk, it's more known as 'Indie Aussie Pub Rock". And one of the best bands in this genre. 'Do you see What I See?' is one of their best songs IMO. Mark Seymour kicks arse. Eddie Vedder covered the H&C song 'Throw Your Arms Around Me' when I saw Pearl Jam play in Sydney in the early 90's.
If you get the chance, watch their first video. "Talking To A Stranger" Even more 'Experimental'. Yes. The Hunters evolved from the Punk genre.
"Talking to a Stranger" is a good insight into how experimental they were. Its lyrics were a translation from a Baudelaire poem. I had a brief acquaintance with one of the actors in the clip for it. He was a Trotskyist with an unfortunate smack addiction. That's the sort of band they were. Also, Hunters' used to have all sorts of weird semi industrial stuff on stage which the drummer used to hit instead of proper drums. Then of course there was having a full horn section, not as something you hired in the studio, but as a permanent part of the band.
I love this song and I love this band!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌏🪐🌕🙏🌸🇦🇺🐦🦋🏡🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Not sure I would call HnC punk- More alternative rock garage Oz Pub Rock- But yes Ska bands did seem to bring brass to the Post Punk music scene
Loving your Hunters reactions.
Thats the way girlie listen to this once a day and develop your pelvic floor...excellent grip. you managed to stay on the chair....[Australian humour i am afraid..I would walk past the building after work in Fortitude valley Brisbane when the Hunters were rehearsing, the location of this was an old building owned by the Communist party of Australia,, ,which party is now no more. ]
H&C! Classic Ozzie band.
Definitely not punk by the music industry definition of punk. But as original as they come.
Very experimental in the early days. Talking to a Stranger, a single off their first self-titled album, was so popular among the uni students that it charted and got played on commercial radio. WHAT!
In a documentary about their fourth album, Human Frailty, which explodes with the opening song Say Goodbye, the band said that the record company were urging them to make a more commercial album, which was needed if they were going to make money from their music. Human Frailty is far from a commercial album, but was a huge hit and personally I think their best. Just some great grooves and a sound that can't be found elsewhere. (If you try and compare H&C it's always a comparison of several artists, not just a style)
Mark Seymour (lead singer) was very intense, especially in his singing. Great voice.
If you weren't dancing at an H&C concert, they would take you out and check your pulse!
Hunters are a great iconic Australian band.
If you want Aussie punk try Frenzsl Rhomb.
Listen to talking to a stranger.
Car is H.R Holden.
Industrial pub rock
Ha! You had nothing bronze........ and your girl was slipping off the seat.......
Hi guys, just watched your reactions to Hunters and Collectors. I have one thing to say though, They Are Not Punk, never were. Ahead of their time, rock, yes.
Now, If you want real Aussie Punk, you've gotta listen to The Saints-"Stranded" and "Know Your Product".
The Saints were The First punk band in the world, that's right,THE WORLD. Before the Ramones and before the Sex Pistols.
Please watch and get blown away.
It's classic couldn't give a shit punk attitude.
Awesome Aussie band, especially live, but i wouldn’t call them punk
The roots of ska? Seriously!
Not sure why you ruin this reaction by calling H&C punk. They were Aussie rock.
The better song is Holy Grail
🇭🇲🇦🇺
Stop calling them punk
Pub Rock ……. Not Punk ! Mark Seymour great lead vocalist.
Original version is nowhere near as good as the UNDER ONE ROOF, farewell concert version
Its not punk it was Oz Rock, pub rock like all our great bands
Omg you look like my ex wife, I'm going to send you a photo, Aussie pub rock is the best rock!
Still waiting for them to react to Big Pig, Jet, Stonefield, Tumbleweed, Party Boys, Masters Apprentices, Skyhooks, Ol' 55, Daddy Cool.......unless I've missed those reactions but pretty sure I haven't...
And I’m Talking (Big Pig connection), Models, Australian Crawl
