My god that is the most awesome idea ever!! A movie on the 80s Australian rock scene with Elijah Wood starring as dave Faulkner. The gurus must have one hell of a story to tell!!
The life of a sales rep in Australia is a blur of red eye flights and Falcon station wagons full of samples and displays. Remembering your clients birthdays and missing your family’s birthdays. Thank god I am not doing that anymore
This is a beautiful anthem for us people who travel for work. Every time I sat down at the bar at Canberra airport on a Friday afternoon waiting for my flight to home in Sydney, it was playing in my head,
The Hoodoo Gurus are the greatest surf rock band of all time - which is awesome for Aussies because we have loved them from their very first (incredible debut) album and we will always love them. I've no idea how they did not conquer the world, but that's the music biz I guess.
This song is the unofficial anthem of the Royal Australian Navy, It was going to used with its own original video clip as a recruiting ad campaign in the late 90's (because we are always 1000 miles away) but it was decided by the Navy command at the time to be to Gung Ho and they went with something else. Some how the Navy's sailors found out about it and it became instantly popular. The video is on you tube if anyone is interested. Fun fact.... because the song was never used for the ad campaign the band was never asked if the Navy could use the song so they had no idea it was so popular with all of the Navy's sailors until the were asked to play at the HMAS Canberra (FFG02) decommissioning ball in 2005. When they played this song the whole of the crew went nuts and sung every word of the song as loud as possible. That's when the band found out about the whole story.
It's actually Canberra's ship song, his father was on Canberra during Battle of Savoy Island and has given Navy and Canberra Ship to use for free cart blanch
No way! Definitely watching then....damn, remember when we had Michael Jackson and like Whitney Houston on Telethon? The most spoiled generation on Earth... Perth Telethon is and was insanely brilliant... and it's all for charity, absolutely beautiful! X
Australia HAD an amazing music scene once. One where new bands like Hudoo Guru's actually got airplay on mainstream radio stations with DJ's that were employed for their knowledge of all local and overseas music. Now its put on a tape of 40 year old bands with half the band dead or just US record company inspired dance or rap. Australia is almost a live band cemetery today.
Dei slaying it again...the BEST song choices, and so glad the most gorgeous woman in the world is reacting to it...damn you are a lucky man bro, good for you! You seriously scored, congrats chief. :)
Storytelling and lyrics with great light and depth of the musicality is common in so many Aussie songs. Just love that you are becoming aware of what we have enjoyed for decades!
@@manna6618 I know things were so cheap back then, even the drinks were dirt cheap. You could have a great night at the pub & not spend much, can`t do that now. I wanna go back.
You saying "best of all worlds" reminded me of Best of Both Worlds, but Midnight Oil, which hopefully Dei sends you way sometime soon! 😄Great video as always!
Watched 'em live in a pub with a couple of other people as 'The Wimpy Blimps' Watched 'em the next night same pub as the Gurus and the place was heaving. lol
Thanks Dei, this is my all time favourite from our fabulous GURU's. This one also got me through some tough times as well mate so I appreciate you showing our fantastic music yet again mate. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘🎶🎶🎶🎶
So many good songs. Spent my teens singing about how Tojo never made it and Wiping out. Then it was Out That Door for some Good Times and to figure out What’s My Scene. As for this song, definitely one for contemplation when you’re sitting in an airport wondering what the hell you’re doing all this travelling for. Pretty much their entire catalogue has a memory for me.
Thanks Dei for getting this fabulous song out there, with Dave Falkner's unmistakable voice. He's fantastic. Love this band and this is my favourite song of theirs.
Look up 1000 Miles Away Navy, has a pic of a helo coming towards you, i was on the middle ship when we had 5 Frigates 40 feet apart side by side, done off Darwin in 95
Brilliant song from a brilliant band. Vicki Peterson from The Bangles is the female backing vocals on this track. Do yourselves a favour & check the Gurus' banger "The Right Time."
Yeah mate love this song , so relate to this you do business in Australia 🇦🇺 you will spend a huge amount of time in the airports and heaven help you if you are doing OS as well while trying to keep your family together. Hoodos really tapped onto what was going on.
Great song. Do you guys ever cover any our Aussie songs?. I am a Karaoke Tragic but I can walk into any pub & bring the place to a standstill with a song from 1973 " Boppin the Blues" by Blackfeather. Check it out on UA-cam ( turn it up)
Brad lives in my street....absolute legend and seriously great guitarist.
Best Gurus music ever. This song has so many meanings and implications. Awesome Aussie tune.

Dave... what a Perth-boy-done-good legend. Love your work man.

The travel is a metaphore for emotional distance
Touring Brazil right now. Playing Rio tomorrow night. This song is loved there. Forever Gurus! 🤘🏼
Perth band, I used to watch them in pubs performing to 100 people. Great gigs, everyone dancing. We knew then they were something special.
This is a beautiful anthem for us people who travel for work. Every time I sat down at the bar at Canberra airport on a Friday afternoon waiting for my flight to home in Sydney, it was playing in my head,
This song and "I want you back" my favourite Hoodoos tracks but I like most of them. Awesome band.

Dave would be one of Australia’s best song writers
It happens to us all, my hair used long and flowing, now it's trying to run to the back of my head.
It's been too long since I've heard the Hoodoos. I think you guys would love the Hunters & Collectors "When the River Runs Dry"
Thanks Jimmy! We did that one too actually!
@@TheWolfHunterZ Dag nab it! Gonna go check it out! 😁

Yeah, they're not a punk band, are they Johnny? Calm your temper please. The Gurus have so many levels/depths which youve just grasped
Do you have to yell all the time
