Your septum is a structure that’s located on the inside of your nose that divides the two sides. It’s made of cartilage in front and bone in the back. When we say that it’s deviated, we mean it’s not exactly in the midline, but it’s bent over to one side or the other. This can occur for a number of different reasons.

For some people, they’re born with it, while for others it could be a result of the birthing process, where there was some trauma to the nose. Most people may have had multiple traumas to their noses over time. When you’re a kid, you fall, you bump your nose, you get up, and you keep going. You don’t even realize that it’s happened, but those micro traumas, over time, can make the cartilage curve. The result is that one side becomes narrower than the other because that’s the side that the septum is curved towards.
Usually the way you know if you have a deviated septum is that you don’t breathe well out of one side of your nose while the other side is okay. We all have breathing cycles where we breathe better out of one nostril for 20 minutes up to two hours, and then it’ll switch to the other nostril. This is normal. However, for those with a deviated septum, one side is always worse. So a lot of times when you go see your doctor, they’ll take a look inside your nose and may tell you that you have a deviated septum.

I was okay with my deviated symptom until i hit age 29. The. It got worse and worse making my voice muffled. It felt like I was choaking when I was eating. And that I felt like I was drowning. Day 2 after surgery now. I feel less heavy on my head. I feel more refreshed. My breathing is better. I went to eat food and was shocked that I could breath and eat at the same time. I don't feel like I'm drowning anymore either.
Is your sleep any better ?
@@RichHandsome yeah it actually has. I actually am feeling refreshed the next day after sleep. And definitely have noticed my appetite back im eating like crazy and not really feeling full. Where before I was bearly eating and was underweight at 5.8 height weighing 54kg.but I'm able to have full motion in my arms too . The surgery has definitely changed my life in ways I never thought

Just had my appointment with an ENT a few days ago,found out I've had a deviated septum probably since I was a teenager.Been dealing with headaches ,and brain fog for years,but I finally have surgery to get it fixed on the 19th.Please pray everything goes well. I'll post an update on how I'm feeling after surgery

You'll be good. They'll explain everything to you, go in the room and the next minute you're in recovery. The first few days aren't the best but you can deal with it.

I just had an 80% deviated septum repaired. I had bilateral turbulent repair, bilateral endoscopic maxillary gland surgery. Drainage, tissue cut that closed off my glands, and bilateral cysts removes. I had a chronic 8yr sinus infection.... I'm on day 4 , no pain post op. No need of pain meds, no bruising and no swelling luckily!! I've been a mouth breather for 8+yrs which has also been bad for my asthma.
Please share all the benefits that you got after this surgery. I am thinking about getting this done.
How long does it take after surgery to be able to breathe through your nose?
I got this done. The surgeon took out the sponge etc two days after the surgery. The first two days are really miserable.
Just had my surgery in May. Outside of my children hitting my stents, recovery was decent. I had a reduction of turbulence on both sides and septoplasty. I was 99% closed on one side (deviated side) and 90% closed on the opposite side. Best surgery I've had in my life 😂🖤😁
did you notice improvement in energy levels less fatigue motivation anything? I have had for a long time bad fatigue issue where I even fell asleep at work once

Just had all three of those done 48 hours ago - even with swelling, crusting and stents still in my breathing is 95% better. So very happy.

1 month ago I had my septoplasty+turbinectomy surgery. The first days were rough, but as soon as my splints were removed I noticed a great improvement. My surgeon is fantastic. She’s an artist and her job was perfect.

1 week post op from a 7 hour septorhinoplasty! My septal deviation was so severe that my surgeon had to take a cartilage graft from three of my ribs to completely reconstruct my septum and several other structures in my nose. Getting my stents out in a little over 36 hours. Cannot wait. Not only will I be able to breathe but my nose will be straight for the first time in my life. I feel like a supermodel already

Well, I suffer from a severe deviated septum today I have sore throat and could barely breathe. I have surgery February 22 and I am praying to God that clears us the whole mess up.
I have had this insufferable issue since childhood. I am now 68 years old and reaching the end of my patience with it. Going in for surgery in two Months ! If not for covid I would have been done two Months ago. My night times are horrendous ! no air, no sleep for decade after decade.

My nose is rather tender today and the drainage sucks.... something I didn't expect....my front teeth and surrounding gums are still a bit numb, yet feel like they're on fire. Follow up will be Mon 10/4.... I'm hoping for some GOOD sleep

I’ve genuinely thought about breaking my nose because it sucks so much not being able to breathe with it sometimes, like when drinking a glass of water ill take a breath of air through my nose except no air comes through and ill drown myself and start coughing water up. I think I’m going to convince my parents to get this taken care of
I don't think you're supposed to breathe while you drink. When you swallow, your airway should close
I just got mine today- Septoplasty and turbinate ablation- and I already feel so, so much better. This was affecting my quality of sleep, exercise, and life in general. I had terrible brain fog, headaches, and felt like there was a curtain all the way inside my nose causing me to not get enough air in. I only have stitches and not packing or splints, so I’m able to breathe DRASTICALLY better. My nose just feels a little tight, my teeth have a slight ache as if I have a sinus infection, and there is some dried up blood causing a weird feeling. Other than that so far I have been totally fine. I’m sure I will run into some issues in the next few days, but I hope this showed people that it is an extremely noninvasive surgery. Just follow the doctors orders, use nasal spray, clean around the nostril opening with peroxide, use Neosporin to help with scabbing, and change any gauze pad as needed. You’ll be happy when you find the right surgeon to do it!😊
Just had this particular procedure done and I wish my doctor would have explained the pros and cons and the details of turbinates and the septums . I just didn't understand all of these details. The way you explained them was wonderful and very very clear.

I got rhinoplasty and septoplasty in 2022. Since the surgery got finished, I have not been able to control my breath.
Those below are the actual main symptoms I have.
①When my noses inhale the air, the air comes into my body too strongly. It's so strong that I feel suffocated.
And my noses don't work for letting the air out from my body by themselves. So, I need to try to force the air to go out from my body.
②I have a headache and need to take pills for it every day.
③My nasal snot stuck with my nasal paths.
④My mouth, nose, and throat are always getting dry. The mouth doesn't produce enough saliva. The nose is burning. The throat is always with pain.
Honestly, these symptoms make me insane every single second.
I want to finish my life by myself, as soon as possible, to run away from this suffocation.
If you're considering whether you should take any nasal surgery or not, just be careful of your decision.
All these comments about the symptoms are my life for the past months, especially choking while eating, terrible sleep, distress just breathing, horrible congestion, can't breathe while exercising (figure skating) --- I'm getting sick every week, especially in the winter and it doesn't help that I'm required to be in a ice rink every single day for hours in the dry cold air... I hope that I can get the surgery soon and find some relief, just the thought of symptoms, the anxiety of loud breathing in public (eating alone because its so pathetic and disgusting to watch me eat), and the disfigured look in the picture is putting so much stress on me and I'm only 16!
I pray, I pray, I pray I can just get some relief and that the surgery won't be so hard on my family. And that the recovery time won't be so tiring...

I got the surgery a few days ago. I was uncomfortable, but it was manageable until I started swallowing way more than what came out. I hope the rest of today, as well as tomorrow goes better.
THANK YOU Dr. Sturn for these videos - I am TRULY grateful for these and the time you put into them! I am on the fence - last 10 years getting severe sinus infections - on antibiotics, prednisone, nasal sprays, all the allergy meds you could think of and I also have asthma, so once I get a sinus infection I'm knocked out for a month. Did you get it done? I’m wondering if it’s worth it. I too take all kinds of nasal sprays and allergy meds. I’m over it and have had enough. Tired of brain fog, feeling of not getting enough oxygen, headaches, sinus infections multiple times a year, miserable sleep, nasal saline sprays, the water getting stuck in my ear due to all the saline rinsing. It’s miserable! And I’ve started squeaking when I talk recently. It’s so weird.

Hi 🙋♂️ YES, had it done in August so I'm 3 months post-op. So far, so good. I am not going to lie, the 1st week is challenging. But, after that you'll feel much better. I'll know more as time goes on. I can breathe better, but not perfectly. I have an immune deficiency also. This may affect my results.

Dr. Sturm, I had this surgery when I was 26. Prior to surgery, I was always congested and couldn't exercise without getting out of breath. Now I'm 67. I still do rigorous cardio cycling every day. My quality of life for all those years has been remarkably better! If given the choice again, I would definitely have the surgery again!

I am 66 and breathing is getting worse. It won't get better with age. I hope to get this done in the next couple of months.
I have had three surgeries for inferior turbinate reduction. For the second, they corrected a deviated septum. For the third, the ENT offered to correct the deviated septum again, which I declined. So another Con is that (apparently) the deviation can recur. Another Con is that the nose is extremely vascular, so you will bleed a lot when the septum is fixed. Stanching the blood requires gauze packing, which is uncomfortable and can make it hard to sleep. The ENT will also want to clear crusting and clotting around the wound, which is not fun.

I'm day 5 of septoplasty & turbinate reduction. Still bleeding. Not loving having to rip tape off of my face several times a day. It's really taken a toll on my skin, especially under eyes. Also my lips have shriveled away from mouth breathing. The pain sucks but is bearable with 600mg ibuprofen 3xa day.
What isn't bearable is the change in shape of my nose. It's WAY way shorter, & really turned up like a pig.. or dr seuss character. Hoping it's just swelling & will return to its goofy looking self. It was straight before but appears a bit crooked now. Again hope it's just the swelling. My dr said recovery was 2-3 days. Now they're saying 2 weeks to breathe again. 6+months full recovery.

Im so glad I visited an ENT recently and discovered all this info. They informed me that I have a severe case of chronic sinusitis and a deviated septum. For years I've been struggling with extreme brain fog, headaches (sinus pressure) and fatigue. Which is probably where my anxiety and mild depression comes from. I am only 23 and have a lot of weight on my shoulders at this time in my life so this plus the stress of my demanding lifestyle is driving me nuts. ENT are lining me up with surgery for balloon sinuplasty and septoplasty. I really do hope this will change the quality of my life so I can live.

I had the same thing at 33, I had surgery 5 days ago. Still can’t breathe because of a massive clot, doing sinus rinse 3 times a day. Hopefully once it’s all out I’ll be able to breathe

@@JBarnes6767 I haven’t been able to breathe through my nose very well for years. I guess I’m used to being a mouth breather. Once I’m able to breathe through my nose I’ll have to somewhat train myself how to stop breathing through my mouth.

I had this done eight days ago. Mine must have been slow onset over time (septum, probably since birth, but the turban it enlargement, and the nasal valve acquired overtime I guess)
I never realized how bad my mouth breathing was. The first night after surgery or two, I was definitely about as miserable as I thought I would be, but 60% of my discomfort came from the neck pain from being on my back during surgery. Even WITH the splints in, I could still get about as half as much air up my nose, as I did before I even went in for surgery.
Had the splints removed three days ago. I’m still having some swelling, of course, but even with the healing swelling, I would say my nose breathing has increased by 75% better. .
I can lie down on my back, as if I were going to sleep, and close my mouth and still get all the air I need. Wow!
I remember that before having the septoplasty my otorrinolaringologist could not enter at all in one of my nose holes to inspect it.
After the surgery he could inspect It better.
Yep, that’s how my doctor found I had a deviated septum.
Oh gosh, just learned about internal nasal valve. It's probably a good idea to ask about this during an ENT appointment.

I had a septoplasty about 3 years ago and it made a huge difference. That along with CPAP therapy has literally saved my life. I would recommend it to anyone if you have issues breathing. It's a simple surgery. I had no problems and felt no pain at all post-surgery. The splints were removed a week or so later and I noticed a significant difference in my breathing.
I just got done this yesterday, how long was your recovery?
@@flip90925 I believe the splints were removed a week after the surgery. I bled a little that day, but then it was all good. I would say recovery was less than 2 weeks. It was quite literally one of the smoothest surgeries I've ever had. Hang in there. It's gonna make a significant difference in your breathing. Wait til the splints come off. Let me know how it goes.

Great video! I do have a question hoping you can help. I had my deviated septum surgery at ENT 1 1/2 years ago and although can breath better, I am constantly getting crusting interior of the nose that hard to discharge… stuck to the inner top section and side. Suspect it might be allergies related as my allergy index is high base on my blood work. Any suggestions, should I revisit with my ENT or see allergist? It’s very annoying and constantly sneezing now whereas before surgery, not so much.
I had balloon sinusplasty last year to remove palups. I have a deviated septum as well. After that surgery I’ve had 6 sinus infections! I went from chronic sinusitis to chronic panisitis. I am now having septoplasty in 8 days!
Can’t wait to breathe better and my mentally health improve with it. I have to kids 5 and 4, so not being able to sleep great for 4 years, really took a toll on my body and mind.

@@florenciobritez5521 Yes! I would say I’m 85% better! I do have issues with some swelling, not sure what is causing that. Before I couldn’t breathe much at all. I was sleeping with my mouth open because of it. Now I can fall asleep better and actual stay asleep. I haven’t had a sinus infection for a little over a year. I would definitely recommend having it done. It was just a 1- 1 1/2 hour procedure. I had my septum corrected. I also had my turbinates reduced and my canals widen.

15 Feb 2023: Thanks a lot, M.D Angela Sturm. I do Not have a high threshold for pain and I suffer with anxiety attacks. I may have it done in March, but I am very scared and plus when I am sleeping, I do not breath from my mouth, so I wonder how can a person breath with gauge in their nose? My breathing is exactly as you said, one side is open more and then it switches to the other side and then it closes up.
I have no problem breathing. Due to fall face down I have nasal bone fracture. Doctor said he can do septoplasty and make nose straight. Do you suggest that septoplasty is good option. Please I need suggestion and your perspective.
I just got my septum fixed 4 days ago, I get my stents out on Tuesday! I can’t wait to see how well I can breathe! So far I’ve had moments where I can breathe out of that side and I can already tell, once those stents are out, I’m gonna be able to fully breathe! First 3 days are pretty shitty esp day 1, but after that, ur fine. At least I was.
I’m 15 years old(soon to be 16), and I have had a deviated septum for a while, didn’t actually know about it till the beginning of the school year. Quick question. After my surgery I had fountains of blood. In which I had to pinch 🤏 off using my fingers. Holding pressure for hours I till bleeding was under control. Could I have accidentally moved my septum by pinching?
Can this help with constant dripping when i eat ? Also alot of stuffiness during allergy season and pain on my nose when i get a sinus infections also do they always pack your nose with gauze after surgery ? I have a phobia of not breathing from my nose when i have a cold i use sprays to unclog me
Just had this surgery on 11-2-22. Still recovering. Ended up having heavy bleeding 5 hours after surgery which prompted an ER visit. After following up with ENT surgeon yesterday, turns out the bleeding was so severe that one of the nasal packing material dislodged, a blood vessel needed to be cauterized and then both nostrils repacked. On day 3 after surgery, I am having more pain than ever. Praying for this to improve.
Ouch! How are you feeling now? I just had surgery 3 days ago. First night was incredibly painful but I’ve been mostly pain free since and only experiencing minor discomfort and tenderness. Can’t wait until the congestion and crusting are gone.

@@konanarcher still recovering but able to breathe a lot better thru my nose than I ever was before. I had not only a septoplasty done, but turbinate reduction and widening of my right interior nasal valve, which meant the upper portion of my nostril was basically sealed shut before the operation. I’ve been able to breathe exclusively thru my nose basically the whole time I’ve been awake, tho it’s still congested and healing + dryer than normal during this process. When I sleep, I’ve breathed exclusively thru my nose like 50% of night and during the other 50%, I’d guess I’m breathing 80% / 20% from my nose and mouth, respectively. Prior to the surgery I’d breathe 50/50 evenly thru my nose and mouth while conscious and then probably 90% from my mouth and only 10% thru my nose when asleep, so it’s been a drastic overall improvement for me!
I have a deviated septum, nasal blockage, and hypertheophy of inferior nasal turbinate, I cannot wait until November for my surgery

The problem is it may not be your septum causing the problem. Lots of people get it fixed and they still have congestion and then the stupid doctor is like Oops! Sorry, well let's try something else that we should have tried in the first place before I put you through painful surgery.
Does your mouth get dry?
I have had a deviated septum and breathing issues my whole life but never addressed the issue until recently because it was what I was always used to. From middle school until now at the age of 25, I basically have to take headache medicine every day because it is a constant. Most days I just power through it as I don't even know the headache is there until I actually acknowledge it. I am having the surgery tomorrow but am simultaneously nervous and excited. The doctors said that it may even help mentally as I have always been irritable without knowledge as to why. Probably because I never stop having a headache. I wonder what it is like to be able to breathe and sleep with my mouth closed or breathe through my nose while I eat. Most nights I wake up gasping for oxygen because I attempt to breathe out of my nose at night and actually suffocate myself so maybe I will also be able to sleep through a whole night. The surgeon said that in their 25 years of doing the surgery mine was in the top 20 of the worst they have ever seen and they are excited to assist with my quality of life. I will stop by with an update if this happens to get likes and comments. Wish me luck!

I was really anxious. I was dressed in their operating clothes and I wanted to be put under ASAP. The first nurse could not find the vein in my left hand for an IV drip for like 10 minutes and made a mistake causing blood to go literally everywhere. I started freaking out and crying about either dying or my girlfriend that broke up with me a month ago after 5.5 years because she was going to be there prior to her breaking up with me. They had a new nurse coming in with a numbing needle to numb my right hand in order to get an IV drip going. I had her wait because I was mid panic mode. They were able to get numb my hand and get the drip going. A male nurse then came in and put some relaxation medication IN my drip. I asked "What was that?" he said "relaxation medicine," I said, "when will I feel it?" "In a couple seconds" "wow I feel it" then don't remember one thing about the surgery. I did throw up when I woke up from the surgery and was very groggy. I was not in pain after the surgery though, just had a headache and a lot of nose bleeding and spitting up blood. The few times I have felt oxygen in my nose it has been surreal. I have felt cool air in places I have never felt in my head. It almost feels like breathing for the first time even though my nose is still 90% clogged. They will be removing my stints tomorrow. I highly recommend taking a week off because it is a rough surgery lol.

My nose is pretty runny but has healed for the most part. I still am spitting up blood but it is very minimum now. I do notice that my allergies are more prevalent and blowing my nose can be painful at times. Tomorrow I am going to the ENT to get my nose cleaned. Yesterday and blew my nose and removed a blood clot the size of a small marble and full of stitches. The ENT should be removing all this. Breathing is better (when I can breathe) and I no longer have headaches, Very positive procedure so far.

My nose is pretty stuffy, likely because of allergies. Overall my headaches are gone and I believe my irritability has decreased significantly. I find myself breathing through my nose without even thinking about it which I never used to do in the past. The key is to continually use the saline nasal sprays as it helps clear up any crustiness from blood and the nasal passage. I think something still needs to be cleaned in my nose and in a few weeks I have a third follow-up appointment.

I got septorhinoplasty + tipoplasty I m at the day 6 post-op. There was no pain at all, my surgeon prescribed me Oxycodone and I did not need it. Nor did I bleed/swell a lot. I m taking off the cast in 7 days...
Sinus infections and manually pumping warm baking soda water through the collapsed side of my nose would make this surgery worth it. I'm in a lot of pain and discount. The left side of my nose is like a coffee straw and right side is wide open. It's stings and gives me brain freeze to have the first of my brain hit with so much cold air in the winter. The left side runs non stop. This surgery sounds like a great idea.

It definetly will just understand for a week it's so grueling dealing with cleaning your nose repeatedly with saline. I get my stents out of my nose in 2 days and I already can breathe so mucb better with them in my nose. I never knew I wasn't breathing most of my life until now its crazy. For decades I had been a slave to nasal spray all to overcome a deviated septum...Now I had septoplasty 3 weeks ago. 2 Weeks with splints up my nose and mucous and dried blood was horrendous because I could not breath properly through my mouth while sleeping. Of course you have to keep nasal drainage a few times a day. On my 3rd week, splints out now and breathing much much better although a little blood still drains but I still maintain nasal drainage a few times a day. I'd say in 2 more weeks, it should be all good. Thank you the ENT dept at Logan Hospital in QLD. Rob

@@gosman949 The surgery was on the 22/7 or 7/22 wherever you are...I had an appointment to check about 3-4 weeks ago because I was concerned that I still had swelling around the bridge and inside I had a lump in each nostril like a big puffy blister and whilst the surgery was a success, these large lumps were obstructing the flow of air. I continued the drainage with some steroid spray after that and those lumps have reduced, but not gone altogether. I will have another check up with the surgeon in 2 weeks and hopefully by then, it will all be at least 90% done...so the surgery worked but it's taking a long time to heal completely.

So I had this cyst on one side of my nose and it kept growing to a point where it pushed my nasal septum out of its place, causing it to deviate and hence blocking both my nostrils. Just underwent this procedure and boy do i feel better although I have a question, will the removed part of my septum grow back normally. I'm 20 btw.
This surgery destroyed my life. For years, doctors have not been upfront about the possible outcomes. My surgery gave me atrophic rhinitis, which means the tissue in my sinuses is dying out. There are days when every single breath is a living hell for me. For the most part, I feel like I am suffocating. Think long and hard before you have any surgery. ❤❤❤

@@hummer2223 same here until i had allergy tests done and wasn't allergic to anything. that was 25 years ago, however. i actually recently noticed that either dairy or gluten/carbs cause some general inflammation in my gut and sinuses. took a few months to test this out. i would have cereal everyday in the morning and at night and removing those showed some improvement in those as well as my overall feeling of health.

I don't know when it started I think somewhere last year. I can't breathe in or out of my right nostril almost at all.
I had my surgery last week and everything was going perfectly until I woke up 5 days later with the silicone slicing into the middle of my nose. The nurse was so dismissive and just asked me to pull down on it to loosen it. The pain is so unbearable that I drove to have them wiggle it only for the piece to slide back right into place. I cannot wait for this nightmare to be over and these things removed in 2 days. No idea why my dr. has been so dismissive, so please make sure that you find a good doctor, not the only one in town.

@vendeconmiguel yes, all healed up and able to breathe so much better. Saline gel helps with dryness in the winter.

It's been a week since I made the Septoplasty and i have yet to see big improvements. I bled a huge amount during the surgery and after it, which is hindering my speed of recovery. Hopefully it will all be better soon.

Ive had no taste for the longest time now and i Think this might caused it or rhintis. I been to speacilist but she didnt find anything when she looked in my nose. But when i turn on the light on my phone you Can see a red Big block and my left nostril is very small/closed off?

I would just get it to stop sounding so nasaly talking or when I attempt singing. When I talk over the phone, my voie sounds nasaly as well and I hate it and cringe. There is not much or maybe even any scientific evidence that the surgery helps patients sound less nasaly, the evidence is anecdotal, although there are a lot of people that confirm the surgery helped them sound better. I have deviated septum, but it does not affect my breating too much.

It’s been 2 months now since I had my rhinoplasty but my right nostril is blocked again,is it common or not??
I think I have a deviated septum since talking and breathing at the same time is difficult, same with eating. I have brain fog, I breathe through my mouth, I don't get restful sleep and I can only breath through one nostril, also it feels like my head is always full.
Is turinste surgery necessary? Will the turbibates self correct over time ? They adapted to the space on the first place right?

I had mine done yesterday.....not terrible. I was a little anxious...because I couldn't breath thru my nose...but that's all in my head. The cotton mouth sucks....(jello and Popsicles REALLY help!) but I firmly believe I'll be so much better this time next week.

I have a crappy tolerance for pain....I'd suggest keeping your "pain" meds for night time (sleeeeepy time) and take straight up acetaminophen during the day! Popsicles and jello are still the best!! No, but it's called a septal perforation. There are treatments for it. Go see an ENT.

I'm kind of worried now. I have felt like both sides are usually somewhat clogged and not functioning properly for a few years now. I went to my doctor and he said it does seem like a deviated septum and made me an appt to see a nose specialist. During this time it was time to enroll in health insurance benefits at work so I went ahead and got the more expensive premium that will save me a lot of money if I have surgery. But now I'm worried that I don't have a deviated septum because it's not just one side that is usually having trouble. So I'm worried because I may have gotten the more expensive premium for no reason. does this mean my doctor is incompetent or is there more nuance to this issue?
See the specialist, get a second opinion, if they think you should get it I would say yes. If they say you don't have to have it, then try to switch your premium if possible! One thing at a time friend.
some cases it might be deviated both sides. get yourself checked with a nose doctor. probably a ct scan will help.
The specialist I went to confirmed I had a deviated septum by putting a small camera down my nose. They should be able to check that way for you.

I know people that have that and it is worse with allergies and dust allergies,, and they have to wear a CPAP and all that kind of stuff. My nephew, 31, just had surgery yesterday.
Having my nose surgery in 3 days. I broke my nose like 15 yrs ago. the first years I could breath as normal but since around 2016 or so, my breathing is trash. sometimes I dream that I can't breath, I suddenly wake up and realize that I can't breath in real life. Lol. I'm not good using my mouth to breath. I also can sleep only on my right side. Because the left side of my nose is the one that is kind of ok, the right one has been like 98% for the last 4 or 5 years. If I sleep on my left side, the left side if the nose gets blocked because of gravity I guess. I can't wait to have my surgery.

@@hummer2223 I’m feeling like if I was born again. Years with poor breathing and now I’m breathing like a baby. The week of the surgery was not comfortable because my nose was completely blocked with dried blood and stuff but day 7 of post surgery I had my appointment, the dr removed the thing they left inside the nose and cleaned my nose so I felt great after that. Luckily, I never felt the day of the surgery, neither the days after. Hey was prescribed pain pills but I didn’t take them because as I said, I never felt pain, not even the minimum.

Hi Angela, I have a deviated septum. The problem is that I have allergies as well. And the narrower side has less blockage than the wider side. In this case, can I breathe better if I have Septum surgery? Or I should have some of turbinate surgery along with the Septum surgery? It is so painful to sleep at night. Daytime I have no problem.

Hello I recently found out I have a deviated septum after an ENT doctor visit, I suspected that I had this due to a trauma I received to my nose a few months prior and I was right. After my ENT doctor confirmed this he wants to see my in December for a follow up after taking regular does of nasal sprays flonase and azelastine along with and oral steroid in the morning have but I feel that I may need this surgery sooner because I am getting bad migraine headaches from this deviated septum and my breathing has gotten worst thru my nose. I also was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and received a cpap machine last month which has been helping me tremendously thru the night. Currently I can no longer go to sleep with out and that is when I realized this deviated septum is causing serious breathing issue when I fall asleep I can no longer sleep without having to use the cpap machine. I know surgery is in my near future...I do not feel nervous about it because it is needed.

@@beesettiswathi7162 the surgery was 2 and a half hours and the recovery is going well, too much bleeding through the nostrils like every 30 min they have to change my things and then when blood gets coagulated they put water with a syringe feels bad but it works, hope this night I can get some sleep, I’m a bit worried about touching my nose unintentionally at night.

I had one surgery in 2006 in Taiwan where I was living. Also went to Thailand to see a doc. But the one I got didn't help much. He cut a piece of cartilage out and dropped it into my mouth. Quite traumatic and can't say it did anything. I've been back to see other surgeons. They had different methods for fixing it. One talked about taking a piece of cartilage from my rib and putting it there or smthg.
But suggested I not do martial arts again and I was like maybe not.
My nose is crooked. I was just looking at Vivaer or maybe rhinoplasty IDK.
