William Shatner Commercial Outtakes

- This is a reel of outtakes from a spot Bill did circa 1982 for a distributor training film for the Kero-Sun company. Back in those days, the kerosene heater was a seriously hot item.
My father was the president and founder of Kero-Sun. Since Star Trek was pretty much my favorite thing at the age of 10 (which led to a tough childhood) he had marketing get Bill do some commercial spots as well as a few bumps for distributor conference. This was one of them. My mom told me that Bill actually called her up to say thanks for having do the spot. He was of course, high on Bill Shatner when he called, but she thought he was a classy guy to show gratitude like that. I would agree. I was pretty bummed that I wasn't home at the time and didn't get a chance to talk to him, but I'm sure the last thing he wanted to talk to was a nerdy 10 year old about Captain Kirk.
When clearing out an old warehouse back in the 80's I stumbled upon this film reel as well as this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=izjqQp.... I knew what it was because it had a sticker of the ship on it that said "USS Free Enterprise". Awesome. - Розваги
Missed a great opportunity “ Hello, I’m William Shatner and I want to talk with you about space ....space heaters, that is.
Nice
I wish I had the other other commercial reels. The campaign was “we bring comfort to inner space”. Sadly this reel was all I could find except this weird and boring sales film using lots of ST look-a-likes.
It was back when he was trying to get past his final frontier.
Space heaters, the final frontier.
Clever! U have a future in the ad biz😂
They should also have done a commercial with Orson Welles, who was still around then: "Ah, the Kero-Sun heaters have always been celebrated for their excellence..."
Sulu jealous he didn't get this commercial.
Shatner took his job like it was, a job.
@Jason Landsbach HE'S A ROCKETMAN
He used his Captain Kirk cadence to deliver those lines.
That’s the William Shatner cadence.
He always does
I hope they went with the weird and wonderful last take! 🤣 William Shatner knows how to laugh at himself and the whole great thing we call life!
HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY, MR. WILLIAM SHATNER!
Tomorrow is his GRAND birthday! 🥳🎉🎈🎂🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁
The man is a national treasure!!!
A *_Canadian_* national treasure! 🍁
that last bit was funny as hell!
You're right ,,,,, that was funny , at first he had that look like , what the hell ?????
Some people are the shit but only he is The Shat.
LOL
He's the genuine Shat
The final bit seems to be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the famous 1970s Saturday Night Live skit that shows the Enterprise bridge set being dismantled live after Elliot Gould's NBC executive character announces the cancellation of Star Trek.
Yeah. Thats all I could think about.
"I'm DE-LIGHTED to be a part of the future of Carousel.."
You mean....?
After all, groove IS in the heart
What a gem! Thank you for sharing, Mr. Litwin!
3:00 I hope they used that last take, that was great.
1982. Winter. We had a Kerosun heater... Thanks
I'm Glad that Somebody remembers( besides me) that this commercial is Not from the 70s, but the early 80s, either 81 or 82!
Oh that pay off at the end was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the upload.
That was great!
Shatner, the workaholic, that’s why he’s 90 something and still alive.
That was worth the wait 😂
I remember those things from when I was a kid! The lighting mechanism lifted up the center burner piece to the side and the burner element flew in at the same time to light the wick. I found it mesmerizing at that age.
Thank you for this upload.
You're welcome! I'm happy to have shared this along with the odd history.
William Shatner is a mannequin, he was so still at one point I thought it was a still shot. Or he’s an alien
a total pro, like I've always heard..
Want to hear was more pro about The Shat? After doing these pieces for my dads company (like the classy master that he is) he called up my mom later to thank her for having him on the campaign. Cross my heart, that’s what he told her. Consummate gentleman and professional. She got off of the phone with the weirdest look on her face as I walk into the kitchen and I’m like “what? Who was on the phone?” She responded slowly “Bill... Shatner...” and all I could think to say was “WHAT? YOU DIDN’T LET ME TALK TO CAPTAIN KIRK?!?!” admittedly I was 10 BUT STILL! I try not to hold grudges but that took a while to get over.
@Vinny Angell ever heard the clip were he mispronounced a word and they correct him,he got upset.I hear from George takei constantly say he was not a nice guy bts.maybe now he's changed
@@paulsmith9192 no, you're right. Underneath his charming exterior and old school gentleman, he's a legendary asshat. Still, he can't be sullied in my heart. He's effing Captain Kirk! Still, I can't help but think of is how he went bananas at @redlettermedia on Twitter when in reality they loved the man. Now Shatner has them blocked. 🤷🏼♂️
Yup, that was my dad's company!
You must have had a very privileged childhood.
Colin Montgomery I did, but it didn’t last. By the time I was old enough to actually enjoy what a privaledged lifestyle was, it was over and I had college loans just like everyone else.
Did you get to meet Mr. Shatner?
A "Privileged Life" is always relative to the least privileged. Enjoy what you have in life!
What is it? A space heater? Get it?
I just love that silly man.
He looks like KEVIN POLLACK doing an impression of William Shatner.
Bill imitates Kevin imitating Bill...Art imitates life imitates art imitates life...and so on.
That was great!
Happy 80th, Bill!
Wow, youtube says this 8 years old, that means Willy boy is now 88. Geesh, and he is still making shows and movies. Good for him.
Very professional always
2:48 Looks like he burns his hand pretty badly, but continues. A true professional.
I love this
that couch looks uncomfortable as shit
That's amazing
That was fun. I guess the Shat wasn't always hard to work with.
Sulu is a whiny biatch, who lies about people.
Yes, he was nothing but gracious for this, contradicting his reputation.
Whatever he’s selling, I’ll take ten.
Shatner,"our space heater goes where no space heater has gone before "
Brilliant.
The ending is funny!
Yep, that's our Bill. :-D
That's fantastic. Don't mess with the Shat!
Kero-sun appears to still be in business.
What's up with staff constantly walking behind him? Christian Bale would have gone nuts.
Desslar LOL, that's part of the schtick. It's supposed to look like he's giving the viewer, either a dealer or partner, a sneak preview of the heater while they are setting up for what I think was either the set for the series of commercials Shatner did for Monday Night Football in 1981(?) OR it was to appear like he was on the scene for the setup of the big exhibit at the 1982 Knoxville World's Fair that Keep-Sun was a major sponsor of. Seeing that you can briefly see his now deceased wife in one of the first few frames who was seen in a few of the commercials chillin' on the couch in the background, I think it was the former. NO I am not making this up. My dad was the president of Kero-Sun and they had The Shat do a bunch of promo stuff right before he did KHAAAAAAAN! I stashed the film reals from after Kero-Sun was hostility bought out by the Japanese manufacturer of the heaters- Toyotomi (long story- not even sure what I can legally disclose about it), when I was cleaning out a warehouse about 30 years ago but for some reason when I rediscovered the reels in my dad's basement 20 years later some went missing and this was the only one with actual Shatnerage. The other reel was a corny Star Trek parody which was supposed to be an instructional video for distributors on how to retail the product. Probably more than you cared to know, but there it is. You can't make this up.
I think the last part was not really part of the commercial the crew was just playing around. This commercial was supposed to just be one take, and then the crew could go home I bet. But William Shatner, being the perfectionist that he is, he probably kept redoing the scene over and over.
La de da de da
@@hinder90 Thanks for the background. It's amazing footage, thanks for sharing. Must have been a fun shoot. If this was 1982, I wonder why Shatner need advertising money (no knock on Kero-Sun, but big stars didn't do that many commercials in those days.) He would have been just about to appear in Khan and TJ Hooker and feeling like a superstar.
They are supposed to be people working in the house cans he just happens to be surprised by the viewer while it’s going on. It was distracting from the commercial, though.
Adorable!
What a pro!
This was filmed only 4 days after principal photography finished on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
Why can't all commercials and Adverts be like this???!!!
I used to have one of those Radiant 10 heaters. Comfy.
Great upload Mr Litwin. I read your description, that is interesting, just a few degrees of separation from The Shatner. 🏆
But as a British sci-fi geek, could you explain your photo please.😂🤣 It reminded me of The Brain of Morbeus Tom Baker Dr Who creature?
Best wishes from across the pond! 🇬🇧👽🇺🇸
2:42, Hey I don't need the rag anymore!
1:37 POV: you just remembered you're William Shatner
I am in the bottom of a rabbit hole.
Could do with a little more excitement at the beginning.
97channel I don’t know, he seemed about at “thrilled” as an early 80’s Shatner could get about a kerosene heater...
Lol, I think he's referring to the infamous voiceover outtake where Shat makes an interfering producer squirm for ages!
Sunzu Z is this the audio slot he was making where the producer was telling him what to do and Shatner was having none of it?
@@hinder90 That's the one - the producer said "Could we have a little more excitement at the beginning" after Bill's first take.
I doubt they paid him for his best acting skills.
He must have gotten demoted again. It seems that Starfleet has sent in a few crewmen to remove him from the captain's chair.
Thank you for sharing these out takes. I really enjoy bloopers. I saw the link in your description. Unfortunately it said the video is unavailable. What happened?
Bill never watched a single episode of Star Trek..unbelievable.
I did not see that coming.
This commercial is very shatneresque.
I have a number of Kero sun heaters... Excellent products. A shame that all we can get in the US now are the cheap Chinese ones. :-(
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
On voit qu'il a l'habitude de faire le ménage ! 😁😜🤪😝❤
I didn't know he did commericals before becoming the priceline negotiator.
Brilliant 😂😂😂
Guy's a fuckinh pro
February 3, 1982
Does anyone have any record of an advert he did for the water-tight handbag that could 'hold all your crap'?
2:47 is classic Shatner.
This commercial is Not from the 70s, its from the early 80s, around the time Mr. Shatner had started on " TJ Hooker", around 1982.
I'm more inclined to think he uses a CPAP machine than a frigging space heater.
You got 27000 views with only 33 Subscribers? ok, I'm in. 34 now
They should’ve kept the last one
🤔At least his wig didn't fall off when he bent over😁😆😅
Guess the props had to be returned as they were rented for only a shot take and looked as though they forgot to tell Shatner
I wonder if that yellow towel still exists..... 🤔
Let them take all the objects around... I don't care.
What matters is that we are going to hang out together because it is our right ;)
He aced it the first time.
I'm william Shatner and.....
KHAAAAANNN!!!!!
i think it´s clean...
Nice lmao
Lucy and the f****** Sky with Diamonds baby
What's sad it he probably did even have one,but endorsed it for lots of money
Who is that guy walking around in the background with a step ladder it seems like he is scripted to be in the shot but why what purpose does he serve? Even in the last shot the guy shows up and takes the plant and shatner looks around like someone's got to be ribbing me which i think the whole thing was made just to be a joke played on him to see how he would react to the guy blowing the shot.
Back in the 70's Shatner knew what was happening now he's confused just what a podcast is.
I'm not sure that's entirely fair. I know very few 90-year-olds who are as active with social media and computer technology as Bill is. I suspect we'll feel a little outdated with whatever technology is around when we're 90, but I hope I'm as on top of it as he is now.
@@JACathcart5181 Well here is more info about that. Its quite interesting.ua-cam.com/video/pF28Zednl10/v-deo.html&ab_channel=RedLetterMedia
should have beamed him in with all the frost on him and watch him thaw?
Whats up with the high water pants?
Frank O'Neil ‘twas 1981.. Flooding a constant problem and we were always prepared for its imminence...
This is not Shatner, is Kirk
😂😂
Yes... Here, in this clips, you can see what a "PIA!" he is to work with... but... He CAN take a joke too! Good for him!!!
Please, tell me what part was William Shatner a "pain in the a**," in this clip?
That's how they took him off of Trek.
That's an outdated R2 unit....
This whole room looks uncomfortable
Some knucklehead guy walking in the back with a stool?
Notice how Captain Kirk shows that director how to direct
I hated the kerosene heater it was expensive to run and they fill the house and fabrics with the smell of kerosene to the point my wife and me never touched each other because of the smell of kerosene .
I blame the kerosene heater for ripping my marriage apart.
I’ve never heard kerosine pronounced that way.
It doesn’t impress me as a product that requires polishing.
@LIBshark No offense, but you actually are misinformed. Sorry.
I'm a bit tired of seeing William Shatner in commercials; Priceline, c-Pap machines and a few others over the years... acting stints in various television series and so on......
How much frigging money does he need, anyway?
I dunno, but this was 1982...
Awful copy. who wrote that?

The context was the Saturday night live sketch - it had just run: ua-cam.com/video/Sx0xOgFDXFg/v-deo.html
