I love how when David counters, Charles is able to swallow his laugh. Then he covnerts his laugh into a smile to keep the illusion of tension going.

My dad enjoyed Charles Gordin’s visits to David Letterman. He really liked that he understood how Charles was putting on an act and how sometimes the audience didn’t seem to get the joke. I’m thankful my dad brought me in on the joke too! I was always so excited to see Charles Grodin spar with David. Mr. Grodin will be missed.

IDK if anyone could be more sarcastic while being subdued, low key and droll like Grodin.

These are so funny. Charles and Dave are so great together. At the start taking about Albert Finny and Charles says that Dave treated him like “also Charles Grodin”. Just the quick wit of these two is phenomenal.

Watching these while recuperating from knee surgery, it appears Letterman was way more entertaining at 12:30 than CBS at 11:30. Maybe because he was older and had to be more professional, corporate or less jocular. But he was way more entertaining than anyone else on the air now (or is that just me?) I know the writers have much input but Camera Night; hosting the show while waiting for cable; Jumpsuit night; watching a re-run.

Chevy Chase should have followed the steps of Charles Grodin, but he lacked the intellect. Because if you think of any Chevy Chase movie, you can simply replace him with Charles. On a side note, Charles on Letterman looks like a classier Don Rickles act.
