This is a well researched documentary with some incredible footage and pictures! Its so beautifully done, especially with the music, I would say its more of a love story! Thanks for sharing the amazing history!
Absolutely. The footage of her construction was impressive. She was one of the most famous ships ever and deserved a better fate. the picture of her and the Mauretania (who also deserved better) moored together on their was to the scrapyard was sad. Thank you for this excellent documentary.
Agreed! It must have been a bittersweet occasion seeing Olympic sailing away from this world and into the fog of history, with everyone knowing yet not quite appreciating her life. At the end, though, she was mourned.
Yes Olympic and Mauritania would have been the perfect two to save. Though both where scrapped back to back by the same scarpyard. Its a shame though i understand with the turblance of the 1930s financially
Well, you can't keep everthing. I know there is a hotel in the U.K. that bought the dining room and it's furniture and is still in use today. Not much, but it is something. It's said to be very similar to Titanic.
What a ship. Traversed the Atlantic Ocean, carried thousands of troops to war and home, was a hospital ship, sailed on through the great depression, Lost 2 sisters, survived several collisions, and provided jobs for 5000 people at the end of her life. Truly and EMPRESS of the sea. Forever loved RMS Olympic ♡
Broke my heart watching and hearing this piece of history. Being scrapped should never have been her fate. RMS Olympic really did honor her deserving nickname, Old Reliable.
Same here. I cry every time I see this because she was one grand Lady. Andrew Carlyle, Thomas Andrews and the workers of Harland and Wolf did a bang-up job on her and her sisters. The thing is that she still had a lot of life in her. At the time of her scrapping, her last Chief Engineer said that her engines were still as good as the day they were first turned over. The Olympic was what the Titanic and the Britannic would have been had they been given ti live their full life spans.
Finding out that Olympic sunk a U-Boat by ramming it was what made it my favorite out of the three. It was almost like she went "The buck stops here!" and refused to share the same fate as her two sisters.
Wow. That was an amazing documentary. The Olympic was perhaps the most successful ship in history. She suffered a lot of damage over the years and even sunk a German submarine, but she refused to quit. I bet a lot of people don't know any of this about the Olympic. It's too bad that her long life is too often overshadowed by tragedy of her sister Titanic.
Carl Winters it’s even more sad that some people think titanic and Olympic were swapped. But they were not. Titanic is at the bottom of the Atlantic not Olympic. People who still think Olympic was swapped with titanic need a brain
Why i'm crying? Absolutely amazing documentary!!! That "Olympic was now alone" part, it hit me. If they only kept the Olympic for a little more, they could have used her in the war.
@@tacoma_furry6027 yes but it was a mine that sunk her. It's like dying from a bullet and saying that the person who created the bullet killed you instead of the person who actually fired the bullet
I've always had a connection with Titanic since a very young age, and never really looked at Olympic / Britannic. Even with all the bad luck the Olympic class suffered, she had an amazing life. Thank you for this amazing documentary, what an incredible footage of Olympic!
The Britannic sank in over 300 feet of water. The wreck is reachable by only the most experienced tech divers. Great documentary. I never thought I'd watch it all like I did.
This is a brilliant documentary, never seen it before.Lots of comments from people saying how sad it was when she was scrapped VERY TRUE but that of course was the way of things in those days and even these days going back to 1997 when P&O s CANBERRA went to Pakistan for scrapping. But you can still see some of Olympic,s interior. There is some of it privately owned but if you visit THE WHITE SWAN HOTEL AT ALNWICK IN NORTHUMBRIA you will see the complete first class lounge from Olympic and even the magnificent large wooden swivel door that you go through is from the ship and a few years ago I was very fortunate in acquiring a third class side plate from THE OLD RELIABLE BLESS HERE 1910-1936.
most film and pictures of titanic are actually olympic, being the first built it was the biggest and awe inspiring ship, titanic being number two was just another big ship, which it would of been had it not sunk
@@anthonynewcome128 Well yes and no. Titanic was considered the "2nd" ship. But she did have a lot of features and amenities that the Olympic lacked. The cafe Parisien, better 1st class accomadations including 2 super luxurious parlour suites that had their own private promenades, and more passenger comfort by providing a sheltered section of the A deck promenade.
@@kyleenglot9184 true, but olympic recieved most of these upgrades in it's 1913 refit, i personally dont think it would of survived WW1 had it not sunk
@@anthonynewcome128 it's hard to say. If titanic didn't sink then White Star lines plan for 3 Olympic class liners would have been a success. I don't believe all of the 3 sister ships would have been commissioned for the war. Just like Cunard's Lusitania was but no the Mauretania which continued regular passenger service for the company. However with no losses that came from the Titanic and then the Britannic the financial difficulties the company faced might have been avoidable.
I have spent a good majority of my life researching the great Atlantic liners and the Olympic class liners have always been my favorites. My most favorite ship is obviously Titanic, I wrote an entire 15 page website about the legendary ship complete with pictures, tables, marquees, and so many informative articles in Windows Notepad when I was 13 years old and won an award from Yahoo for the best amateur written website back in 1997, but I have always been crazy about these beautiful floating works of art. I am 37 years old now and I still obsess over these great ships. I still don't understand why Olympic was preserved as a floating museum. She would've been a registered historical landmark and would've generated more income and visitors than most of the world wonders. God bless the lives that were lost when both the Titanic and the Britannic went down. At least one of these marvels made it through their natural lives. How history saw fit to scrap Olympic is beyond me. All we're left with is memories.
She wasn't made into a museum because she wasn't nothing special at that time, she was just a ship just as any and every other ship. Hell other ships from that time were bigger, faster, more luxurious! Not a big deal really! The vast amount of money it would have taken to maintain her as a museum would not have made it feasible!
@@dodgeramsport01 Yeah, I can understand that, but you would think that given her relation and similarities to Titanic would've made her a little more historically relevant, but how were they to know that Titanic would become a world-renowned icon back in 1935? Still, the battleship Texas was preserved from WWI, as well as the Queen Mary (which I spent my honeymoon on back in 2007), so you would think that Olympic would've also been a great source of income from world travelers who would want to come see what Titanic would've looked like back then. I realize that hindsight is always 20/20, but I don't know how this concept could've escaped the Cunard-White Star Line back then that Olympic, the only ship to survive the class, wouldn't have been better suited as a museum ship.
@@Brock_Landers because they wasn't in the business of having a museum, they were in tge transatlantic crossing business and no one else wanted to buy tge ship to make it a museum! Museums cost money to run and upkeep! Also if you think about it would any of those 3 ships have even been thought about now if it wasn't for the titanic sinking? No!
@Robert Keeton main reason was the financial health of the 1930s. No one had capital, or the capital plus foresight to buy her. If someone did she wouldnt have been scrapped but the financial turmoil of the early 30s doomed her.
@Robert Keeton her and Mauritania where scrapped together, such a shame. We could of had Titanics older sister and Lusitanias younger sister as museums. Only the depression would seal their fates :(
I think by far the most comprehensive, respectful historical documentary of any other previous films regarding the sisters & the shipping trade as a whole. Well done to all involved thanks.
Obviously you've never seen any Norse/Viking ships. Look up the Saga Oseberg. It's a reproduction of the Oseberg burial ship. I personally think it's the most beautiful vessel ever constructed by man.
You know, I understand that Titanic and Britannic were historically important, but they so overshadowed the Olympic, which is a shame because she had such a distinguished history. I really wish I could have sailed on her.
@HMHS Britannic Cruise ships aren't ocean liners. There's only one ocean liner I know of in use and it's the Queen Mary 2. CAN cruise ships do transatlantic crossings? Yes, but they aren't meant to. They are meant to stick close to land. I want to sail on an ocean liner. I'm just sad that it will never be the Olympic or even the Mauritania.
@@mburnhors That's true but she's only being used as a cruise ship rather than an ocean liner fr]or transatlantic crossings. She also may not be sailing much longer as it seems her last cruise may be this October, though I don't know if that means she'll be scrapped.
Quite interesting. Love these old ships. As a child, I had wind up ships one was Titanic. They were partially made of tin with plastic keel, so they could float in the tub. 40 years ago, I also had a model of Titanic.
What an absolute Master class of a documentary this was ! From the information to the Music everything was sublime. Olympic needs more recognition than she ever got . She was an absolute legend at sea. "Old Reliable" lived on to honor her fallen sisters Titanic and Britannic. And done so majestically for 26 years. Shame she wasn't made into a museum or Hotel
Great documentary! I learned so much more about her. And yes it is sad that she was scrapped in 35, but if she had survived into WWII she could have been sunk by the Nazis. I gotta being say being scrapped is much more a dignified end for a liner, (especially one at the end of her serviceable life) than to be sunk in wartime.
Titanic & Britannic & Olympic will always have a special place in my heart, Olympics Twin Sisters that ended up in the bed of the Sea , where they may rest in peace and Olympic survived alone, until her duty as a ship was over. I though wish they would have kept Olympic as a museum because she was the only survivor of the 3 and together they were special.
Amazing research placed in excellent video. Music choice has risen the entire video to the stars. I can't listen to "Empire of angels" without picturing of the Olympic...
You know, out of the three Olympic-class liners, RMS Olympic is the most fascinating to me. Since her two sisters, RMS Titanic and HMHS Britannic were quickly sunk after going into service, Olympic and her career almost seems like a "What if?" to me, offering us a potential glimpse into what could've been had the Britannic and ESPECIALLY the Titanic not been sunk.
im afraid all 3 of them would have been scrapped by now just like the Olympic was... and they would barely be a footnote in history without those tragic accidents
@@jamiecinder9412 yeah me too... would have been awesome and it would not have even been difficult to remodel her to basically be the axact lookalike to titanic if they wanted has as a museum coz of titanic
My opinion is as follows. Olympic is my favourite. I mean she sank a U boat, showing all wEak rIveTs bastards how tough she was. But Britannic painted in her intended colours is the most beautiful to me. Some hate the cranes but I think it makes her look powerful and seaworthy and she had the enclosed A deck promenade that gave Titanic her gracefully flowing lines from stem to stern. Olympic is a bit more of a traditional look.
This was fantastic, great to see a good documentary on Olympic, such a wonderful ship, a real shame she got scrapped, would have been fantastic if she had survived and still been here today
Great documentary, thank you! I often ask people if they’ve heard of the Olympic... hardly anybody has, but it’s a great conversation starter. I then get to educating them...
Ím so impressed with this! I learned a lot of new stuff that I had not yet heard or read before, lots of great unseen photos too! Thanks for creating and sharing! I really enjoyed the music too! Olympic Forever.
She had a good life and had strong enough bones to serve in WW II. Love the footage of her late in life: so alone, slightly infamous, a veteran of WW I, and a dear favorite of many, yet doing her job just as well.
I don't think Olympic should have ever been scrapped. Particularly not in light of the disastrous fates of both of her sister ships. I remember learning about the sinking of Titanic when I was a little girl at school - I remember that I was in Grade III - but when Titanic's wreck was finally discovered in 1985 it reignited an almost feverish interest in the wreck, ensuring her Legend. And I do believe that had Titanic's wreck been found beforehand, then Olympic never would have been scrapped. I would like to add that while the loss of Britannic was tragic, the senseless attack on the Lusitania was a cowardly act, and in retrospect one German U-boat was no small prize for mighty Olympic! The documentary doesn't mention it at the end, but I'm certain that her steel and brass would have been turned into valuable WWII munitions, and I can only hope that these avenged the Lusitania.
In the offices where I work there is some beautiful wood panelling. I found out years ago that this is from Olympic. Bought in the 1930`s by the founder of the quarry, it was purchased when Olympic was scrapped. Recently an office was being refurbed and one of the guys asked if he could have the tatty old display cabinet as it was going to the tip. He took it home and on removing the drawers in preparation to paint it he found a label. The cabinet was the property of the White star line and was off Olympic. Lucky bugger.
Great documentary. There are many documentaries on Titanic, but not many on Olympic. The ship was designed to be the most luxurious, not the fastest. The British board of trade law of the number of lifeboats was outdated requiring the number of lifeboats by the gross tonnage not the number of passengers. White Star Line chair Bruce Ismay though the ship looked too cluttered with extra lifeboats and ordered the removal of 20 extra lifeboats
This is to me amazing seeing this documentary! the end is just heartbreaking seeing her being sold and scrapped i really like this documentary i would watch this on TV for real i love her story and of her 2 sisters.
The music made me feel sad and happy and stuff and I never knew I would be sorry for a ship but when they were taking her down at the end I was trying not to cry . Olympic did good in her life time . Long live Olympic
I think she may have been too slow for WWII. Remember, the Quuen Mary and Queen Elizabeth were capable of 30 knots, the Olympic perhaps 21. It's reassuring that 5000 men had 18 months of employment in the scrapping process, something to be appreciated in these even more dire times.
@@awuma No , she was not as fast as the queens, but I think had the government "used their heads" in view of rising German militarism which was well under way at that point, would have retained the the Olympic and the Mauretania in reserve for possible future use. Even at 20 knots, which was twice the average speed of many of the trans Atlantic merchant convoys, U boats would have had a hard time trying to target her. Their contribution to the war effort would have been very valuable.
As many ships should have been saved, the USS Nevada BB-36, USS Enterprise CV-6, Mauritania.. We do have ships still around that are famous, yet the masses seem not to care they are still here. The USS Olympia for example The USS Texas, The Queen Mary even. The Queen Mary has lower dining areas flooded roped off from public view. What about those? And don't get me started on the SS United States!! @.@;; We still have lots around, but seems this D-Generation only cares about themselves and their Heathenish ways~
Wonderful documentary! So sad that this incredible ship was scrapped, and still, even in that, Olympic's destruction kept 5000 employed & feeding their families.
It’s sad the the Depression caused the dismantling of the last surviving Olympic class liner. The ship really should’ve been turned into a hotel. It would’ve honored at least her sister Titanic and keep that part of history physically alive.
@@SwivelAxl Yeah or some liners became cruise ships. If she just staid around 2 more years she would have served and possibly survived. And probably performed well so at that point I can see her being kept around, maybe she rusts away on some dock. But as the 50s come around Titanic interesr resurfaced with Walter Lord's book and the movie. By then I'm sure interest would have been high enough to keep her around as a hotel. And A Night To Remember could have been filmed aboard Olympic. Any by the time she would have faded again the wreck of Titanic was found so she definetly be kept around then. And maybe Cameron does the film and instead of building a giant set they refurbish Olympic.
Yes, because during the great depression when people hadn't a pot to piss in, the leisure travel industry was booming. People would have lined up for miles to pay to sleep in an edwardian era third class cabin with white enameled walls, bunk beds, communal washrooms, on a ship that isn't going anywhere. You'd have your choice of a room with a view of a harbour, a dirty pier, or an internal room with no window at all. After a year of slaving away in a coal mine (if you had a job), or lining up at a soup kitchen, what better way to relax with your wife and children than to cram them in to a cramped room on an antiquated ship that goes nowhere?
It's a shame there was no footage of Duke Ellington who sailed on the Olympic back in 1933. On a side note, jazz great Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong made his first trip to England on the RMS Majestic back in 1932.
All that WORK for those beautiful beasts, then almost immediately, 2/3 of them sunk, one consummate survivor that ultimately grew too old for the world. All 3 gone from the world before WWII even began. Beautiful documentary, so glad to see these liners get the respect they absolutely deserve.
FINALLY!!! Olympic gets her own movie!!! It is a documentary, but it COULD be considered a movie. It is so well-explained, and has excellent footage of the ship. And Olympic is really the star of the show! Excellent! Thank you so much!!! OLYMPIC:History of the Old Reliable In theaters October 17th, 2019 GET TICKETS NOW.
This was like finding a piece of treasure. Footage I had never seen before. I was always fascinated by the grand ocean liners. I remember seeing my aunt and uncle off on a 707 in 1963 to New York. They returned on the Queen Mary with a tie pin as a gift. Where it is now I don’t know. I wish the Normandy had survived. While working on the telephone exchange in Sydney we handled ship to shore calls. I was able to secure visitor passes thanks to a really kind telephone operator working on board. That was a fantastic treat. Later much later I sailed on Royal Viking Sun from Mexico to Hawaii. Beautiful time and very elegant ship. Finally I got to work on board Holland America line’s Rotterdam and with luck on my side stayed on board for the world cruise 1999. That was an experience of a lifetime and I met terrific passengers and fantastic crew. I’m not impressed with today’s ugly mega ships. Once again thank you. Oh almost forgot. We immigrated from Glasgow to Sydney sailing on Sitmar Line’s Fairsky. As a 9 year old this was an adventure. Now living in a London 65 and a lot of memories. Not much money but a lot of memories
This is one amazing documentary. Well done on the great work, I knew a little about the Olympic but I didn’t know she went through so much, I would love to see a film based on her life but it would need at least a trilogy of films. Beautiful ship, just like her short lived sister the Titanic. I just wish I could go back in time and live to see the days of such beauty and elegance
I had no idea there was this much footage of the Olympic. I admit I didn't know much about the olympic as it was the titanic that got all the attention. But the Olympics story is one to be celebrated (in my eyes anyway) It's just such a pity that no-one knew there would be such fascination over these ships today, and that they had to scrap her. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say, I wish I could see one of those Olympic class liners afloat today.
Leah L The Britannic could be salvageable. Her hull isn’t too far down below the Aegean surface, where the extremophilic bacteria eating the Titanic can’t survive. All that needs to be done is making a cradle strong enough to support the 50,000 ton wreck, as well as finding floating cranes powerful enough to lift it. After the lift, the wreck could be taken to Harland and Wolff for a complete rebuild and serve as a traveling museum piece on the coastlines of Europe and maybe the Americas too!
James Groccia - Harland & Wolff Shipyard is just a mass abandoned site in Belfast these days, the only ship that has survived even remotely close to The Olympic Class Liners was the ferry vessel: The SS Nomadic constructed to take pax to & from the shore to the waiting ships off the British Coast Line, it is preserved in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter
@@jamesgroccia644 britanic isn't salvageable. She's lying at the bottom of the ocean and her hull is deteriorated because of the saltwater. Of course it is not as bad as titanic but she will never get back above the water. Also it would Cost a Fortune to salvage her and another Fortune to get her refitted. Also you would need to change about everything on her cause everything is rotted away.. As much as we all would love to see a Olympic class ship oceanocean Liner afloat it will never happen:(
Amazing documentary really well done also its ironic titanic and britanic get movies while Olympic didn't. Legends never die and this applies to the rms Olympic.

Your story telling is amazing. You gave me emotions over a ship that I didn’t even knew existed. It’s a shame that I never heard about the Olympic, only the tragedy of the Titanic. Thank you for enlightenment 😌
Are you that ignorant? They had to scrap Olympic because of the great depression. If they kept her in operation, they would lose alot of money. If they abandoned it, some one would have taken it and scrapped it. If they kept it in a dry dock, CWS would accumulate debt from the rental fees. If they turned it into a museum or hotel, no one would go to it since everyone was so poor at the time and whatever company which runs it will go bankrupt. So yeah, keeping Olympic would have been a bad decision especially in that climate.
sadly Death, drama, myths and media catch the majority of the public's attention. It is human nature i guess. Titanic didn't get much world press on its maiden voyage, was just another big luxurious ship. Olympic had far more coverage and fuss made about it. Its amazing what the power of the silver screen does as well.
What an amazing video the details clips and commentary had me gripped throughout. Great way to remember this epic but forgotten ship.. Wish she was kept as a museum piece of history as the Queen Mary is still used as a hotel today.. Long live the RMS Olympic in British history
Spooky that the Olympic had tare marks on the hull after her maiden voyage after rubbing off the pier, right where the Titanic had struck the ice burg. It's a true shame we lost Tiranic and Britannic and an even bigger shame we scrapped a true legend and war hero.
@@jasonbaileystudent9088 Look, it wasn't Britannic's fault she sank. Okay, yeah, Titanic's crew miscalculated a few vital things that could have saved the ship, but that wasn't WSL's fault. And you can't blame mean rich people for scrapping Olympic, it was The Great Depression, and the WSL was drowning in debt. They needed money to keep the company afloat somehow.
Very, very, VERY enjoyable, and WELL researched documentary. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I learned things about the Olympic that I never knew. While watching this documentary, I was able to make comparisons to modern day cruising. At that time, it was Cunard and White Star. Cunard, boasting the biggest and fastest ocean liners, while White Star was a about luxury, comfort, and amusement. Fast forward to today. The two dominanting cruise lines are Royal Caribbean and Carnival. Royal is always pushing to build the biggest, and most technological advanced cruise ships in the world, and making history. Ice skating, rock climbing, sky diving, bumper cars, and surfing. Carnival, while not the biggest ships afloat, they are some of the most beautiful. In the past, they have used Joe Farcus, an interior designer known for bold and over the top work. But in recent years, have gone with a European contractor Partner Ship Design, which is more contemporary and chic. Another thing I found interesting was the A La Cart Restaurant. I never knew that first class passengers had to pay extra to eat there. I always thought that back then, everything was included, yet alone in first class. The A La Car had a surcharge, just like today. Royal Caribbean's signature restaurant is Chop's Grill, and 150 Central Park (Oasis class). Carnival has Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, and Disney Cruise line has Palo Italian on all four ships, but Remy (French, formal) is only on the Dream and Fantasy. And all of these restaurants have a cover charge.
Great documentary.... Work of true appreciation and admiration for the Olympic.... Given her history and significance She definitely should not have been scrapped.

Wow amazing thank you for this I don’t think I’ve ever watched such a video. Usually the pictures are of different ships then what there talking about. You did so good. Thank you again. Love it.
yk, we all know that ships arent alive, but you look at them like they are, if you try think other wise it doesnt seem right. There are so many videos dedicated to ships as if they were people, they are personified and glorified, truely magnificent
Awesome documentary!!! One of the best I've seen on any subject!... You gave her the respect she deserved. Some folk say she should have been made into a museum. I strongly disagree. She was built to carry passengers and she should still be carrying passengers. It's not just a ship that was destroyed. It was the last in a line of only three and each had it's piece of infamy. one was destroyed by ego. one was destroyed by war and the last was destroyed for greed. I get it that it's just an inanimate object. But, they were built for all the right reasons, love care and pride were built into each one. and they were each destroyed for the worst of reasons. We didn't just lose a insanely relevant history but I am sure all those who had anything to do with her from the first keel section laid to the last passenger had a piece of them die the day they started demolition. Money, money, money, yet, what would people pay to cruise on that history today if we could somehow magically reverse the folly of money in the moment.
The real Olympic sank after hitting a iceberg. Why it broke in half. Olympic was damaged from a earlier accident. They changed the names in port. Check photos of the bow, titanic has 14 port holes, 15 on Olympic....

A magnificent video showcasing how special Olympic and her class really were.
Old Reliable took an older friend of my dad's to France and returned him safety home. He was a corporal engineer in WW1.
The freidn would be dead, no ww1 veterans lay alive on earth
Why i'm crying? Absolutely amazing documentary!!! That "Olympic was now alone" part, it hit me. If they only kept the Olympic for a little more, they could have used her in the war.
I was wondering what Olympic was thinking when she sank that sub. "F it, both of my sisters were sunk, it's MY turn to sink something."
A submarine sunk brittanic so maybe Olympic was taking revenge
I feel like she went "The buck stops here!" and utterly refused to share the same fate as her sisters.
@@tacoma_furry6027 The Britannic was sunk when she hit a mine
@@ParkeraNZ that was laid down by a submarine
@@tacoma_furry6027 yes but it was a mine that sunk her. It's like dying from a bullet and saying that the person who created the bullet killed you instead of the person who actually fired the bullet

I've always had a connection with Titanic since a very young age, and never really looked at Olympic / Britannic. Even with all the bad luck the Olympic class suffered, she had an amazing life. Thank you for this amazing documentary, what an incredible footage of Olympic!
The Britannic sank in over 300 feet of water. The wreck is reachable by only the most experienced tech divers.

Great video you don't see many cover the Olympic
most film and pictures of titanic are actually olympic, being the first built it was the biggest and awe inspiring ship, titanic being number two was just another big ship, which it would of been had it not sunk
@@kyleenglot9184 Olympic also had the two parlour suites (as well as two on C deck), they just didn't have their own private promenades on Olympic.
I'm not the first to say this, but there will never be another ship as beautiful as what the Olympic Class ships were.
Karen Evans the normandie was arguably tied with them along with maybe the queen mary and elizabith in my opinion
@@Calz-hi3cn Lovely ships too!
the normandy was nice having a more streamlined bow
Obviously you've never seen any Norse/Viking ships. Look up the Saga Oseberg. It's a reproduction of the Oseberg burial ship. I personally think it's the most beautiful vessel ever constructed by man.
Felix Beutin Normandie* we ain't talking Capt. Sheppard here.
You know, I understand that Titanic and Britannic were historically important, but they so overshadowed the Olympic, which is a shame because she had such a distinguished history. I really wish I could have sailed on her.
A beautiful ship doesn't mean a safe passage. Never go on cruise ships. Too dangerous
@HMHS Britannic Lol, don't be so defensive. I meant to reply to the other person.
@HMHS Britannic It's alright. I was tired and didn't look too closely at where I was hitting the reply button.
@@mburnhors That's true but she's only being used as a cruise ship rather than an ocean liner fr]or transatlantic crossings. She also may not be sailing much longer as it seems her last cruise may be this October, though I don't know if that means she'll be scrapped.
My favorite ship ever, even when she was old and obsolete she was gorgeous like a great big yacht.
Thank you
Quite interesting.
I didn't think people cared about me enough to make a documentary about me

@@Roman-rx2tm aw thanks
RMS Olympic hi I see you everywhere even on my channel xd
This is so spectacularly well done! Thank you for sharing this amazing ship with the world.
Olympic, you're our girl ♥️
You know, out of the three Olympic-class liners, RMS Olympic is the most fascinating to me. Since her two sisters, RMS Titanic and HMHS Britannic were quickly sunk after going into service, Olympic and her career almost seems like a "What if?" to me, offering us a potential glimpse into what could've been had the Britannic and ESPECIALLY the Titanic not been sunk.
im afraid all 3 of them would have been scrapped by now just like the Olympic was... and they would barely be a footnote in history without those tragic accidents
@@IgorValar I still wish that the Olympic was chosen for preservation instead of the Queen Mary.
Really enjoyed watching that documentary. Really filled in a lot of history i was unaware of. Thank you
The most beautiful ship in history
Fascinating video. Very well produced. I was unaware of much of the information presented. Excellent job. Thank you!
I literality stood where these magnificent ships were built in 2018, it was amazing to be there....
You literally stood! As opposed to only standing figuratively?
Your document is a historical treasure, thank you!
It ended the Great War by bringing in the awesome industrial and human output of America.
Impressive presentation. lots of interesting information on the luckiest of the 3 sister ships. Too bad it could not have lasted a bit longer.
Rita power rangers 😊😊😊
Beautiful story, with a beautiful sad ending. Thanks for making this.
STUNNING !!!!! VIVA OLYMPIC !!!!!!! GREAT PRESENTATION AND NARRATION !!!! XOXOXOXO
This is to me amazing seeing this documentary! the end is just heartbreaking seeing her being sold and scrapped i really like this documentary i would watch this on TV for real i love her story and of her 2 sisters.
I'm sure if this was about the RMS Mauretania or Carpathia it would have a fascinating history as well.
The music made me feel sad and happy and stuff and I never knew I would be sorry for a ship but when they were taking her down at the end I was trying not to cry . Olympic did good in her life time . Long live Olympic
They made a huge mistake scrapping this ship
It could have been a museum today, imagine how popular that would be after all the Titanic movies.

It could have been made into a hotel just like queen mary that’s a good idea
After a year of slaving away in a coal mine (if you had a job), or lining up at a soup kitchen, what better way to relax with your wife and children than to cram them in to a cramped room on an antiquated ship that goes nowhere?

great documentary, I just stood on the very slipways in this vid last year, it was awe inspiring...
Thank you very much for uploading this video!
But the Olympics story is one to be celebrated (in my eyes anyway)
It's just such a pity that no-one knew there would be such fascination over these ships today, and that they had to scrap her. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say, I wish I could see one of those Olympic class liners afloat today.

@@LoneWolf051 it's a really nice ship, but its no Olympic class. Not saying i wouldn't like to see it if given the chance.

A brilliant documentary! Many thanks.....
They shouldn't never ever scrapped the Olympic. In the present time it would be a treasure with incalculable value.
That’s such a sad documentary. Olympic had a great history just to get demolished in the end. It needs as much fame as titanic, Britannic as well
sadly Death, drama, myths and media catch the majority of the public's attention. It is human nature i guess. Titanic didn't get much world press on its maiden voyage, was just another big luxurious ship. Olympic had far more coverage and fuss made about it. Spooky that the Olympic had tare marks on the hull after her maiden voyage after rubbing off the pier, right where the Titanic had struck the ice burg. It's a true shame we lost Tiranic and Britannic and an even bigger shame we scrapped a true legend and war hero.
If only people knew what foreshadowing was back then...
Some of the photos are so high res, its regret to say that my smartphone cant even take such pictures, well done
Well done on this should be shown in all schools etc
The Olympic was a great ship from the white star line to bad people rarely talk about this great ship.

Wow amazing thank you for this I don’t think I’ve ever watched such a video. Usually the pictures are of different ships then what there talking about. You did so good. Thank you again. Love it.
I enjoyed this documentary, I'm now more hyped to someday create a drawn story about the Olympic and her younger sisters.
yk, we all know that ships arent alive, but you look at them like they are, if you try think other wise it doesnt seem right.
Can you tell I'm typing/reacting as I watch? And is anyone else 'chopping onions' at the end of this? GREAT documentary!!!!!
Well done Lad! Great doc.
