Figured out from experimentation that finding a way to place a heavy object on top of a floating object keeps them both suspended in 'mid-air'. I did this by placing (x) heavy objects on top of each other where x is how high u want the object to be, and replacing the block directly below the highest one with the floating object. Hopefully its intended and not a bug that will be patched in the next update.
You can do that with a single brick. Just place it in the same collumn as baloon, then place brick over baloon (or baloon over brick) to replace it and baloon aligns itself below the brick. If you want to change it's height, repeat the process few times. Every time I do that, baloon makes it's way one block higher.
You should revisit bricks sometime with a haste build (Archangel Armor, shields forged with +haste, etc) because it's ABSOLUTELY BUSTED with bricks. Every item in your inventory which adds block adds +haste amount of block, and since brick builds have a lot of separate items this adds up FAST. One of the best item combos for a haste build is Guarding Band and Tooth Necklace. Guarding Band adds haste when you take damage, and Tooth Necklace damages you each turn (and adds rage as a bonus!) Essentially you free haste each turn at the cost of 1 hp.
So, fun fact: haste affects structures. I have a build going that's absolutely broken. I have a structure, and a shield that gives me +1 haste when I use it. I can get to 999 armor after ~12 turns (if I use the shield 3 times every turn). 999 armor is the also the max, you just can't go above it. (you CAN go above 999 attack on a weapon though).
Kickstarter is gonna end in 33 hours, if you like the game, donate and you can get a steam key for the game after the Kickstarter ends, it'll have the latest build at all times because the itch version will eventually stop getting updates. I highly recommend it for anyone who is interested in the game because we don't know when it'll actually be purchasable on steam. There's so much content that'll be coming to this game :D
Note to readers: “eventually” means “literally right now”. This is the last free build; all future builds are Kickstarter-exclusive. If you want to play with stuff like the planned magic rework, donate now.

I appreciate that you called out the fact that you can stack the bricks going upward, but didn't take advantage of stacking the balloons downward... (also ty to the many commenters who mentioned suspending a heavy item on top of a floating item; TIL)
you can actually "arch" over with multi-space structures, so with the 2x1 brick wall you could have one side suspended in the air if the other side still follows the correct 'heavy' ruleset. this also allows you to place the balloons underneath the bricks which then will cancel each other out and allow you a floating section in the middle of your pack
idk of you will see this commend but you don't want letter below the target weapon, you want 1 space above where the letter will go. you can see when it will/won't buff with the dotted lines and your first activation with the letter below doesn't buff and you miss the last buff when it can't move up anymore
You can create a pocket with bricks as long as you place a wall horizontally hanging off of another brick. That way you can trap a balloon and have it touch three structures at once. It doesn't have to float to the top of the backpack.
By the way, floating items can hold up heavy objects! You can do it by having the floating and heavy item in the same column and swap them by dragging one over the other!
A brick build sounds interesting, I’ve seen the bricks around and never really payed any mind since alone they’re pretty useless, it’ll be cool to see a useful way to include them

I think I've identified my issue with this game I'll always have my baseline judgement for a rogue-lite be Slay the Spire. Slay the Spire has two elements to it's design that I think make it great, 1 encounters that have excellent character and remain consistent across many playthroughs, like I can describe for you multiple non-elite encounters across every act, and they'll never be exactly the same but I can tell you *generally* what will happen in them. That's part of getting good at the game, knowing how to build decks that beat these encounters, now this often means that decks tend to be very similar (especially as you go up in ascension) but I think this is a feature not a bug, it makes the odd claw deck or shiv deck all the more memorable when they do work. And right now this game is getting there, but it's lack of variety and the fact that unless something gains spikes it's all basically just attacks or blocks, like curses aren't a real downside, it makes things less memorable while having a smaller pool of enemies, so only really the act three boss is one that sticks out in my brain. The second feature I love of slay, is that you're never really locked into one thing, sure over time things will go a specific way but on act 3 as iron clad you could always get deadbranch and then the fairly generic corruption+block build you build you were doing gets crazy. Or silent can get shuriken+kunai and all of a sudden shivs are a faster source of scaling damage then poison, and they scale your block too. But builds in this game feel so rigid, because it's foolish to take some safety picks for if the build begins to change. Especially with whetstones, you've upgraded that weapon, now you're going to abandon it, are you a fool? So until this game grows past what I see as those two problems it's like a 6/10 as roguelites go, (which is still like an 7.5/10 compared to mast games but hey I'm biased an I'll admit it)
