Allays are not invulnerable while holding items, they just can't be attacked by the player they like. Since you ignited the TNT with a flint and steel and not with redstone, the damage from the explosion was considered as player damage and therefore it didn't hurt the allays.
@@smhmyheadmhhead7371 We just nade to make a tunnel bore that uses the same principle as TNT looting to assign the owner of the duped TNT to the player. Or are all TNT looting setups based on legit TNT? I can't remember.
itd be neat if the allay could be assigned to noteblocks of certain pitches to differentiate where 2 allays will throw their items. maybe even have them become different colours - same as the note above the noteblock? rainbow allays :D
I almost feel like they should ditch the clocking noteblock idea and the allays could just go to item frames with their held item. Seems like a more user friendly solution to me.
The problem is that item frames are not movable like noteblocks are. But then again having anything related to the allay movable is rather pointless as long as they take damage from non-player sources like TnT in a tunnel bore.
For unstackables rather than a multi-item sorter, I see the Allay more as a specialized filter. Stacking 23 allays at the end of a stacked raid farm could essentially filter out all the potions/totems while allowing the crossbows & axes to be dumped into lava. Realistically nobody is filtering out and storing armor/weapons with villagers in the game.
I also believe that wool and carpets can occlude the noise of the note block prevents an allay from making it their favorite. So you can have each allay set to their own blocks, but the downside is the sorting system won't be 1-wide tileable.
To make the allay a truly-viable solution to sorting, there needs to be a few things: 1) Allays need to be able to be permanently linked and unlinked to noteblocks via redstone so each allay can easily be set to their OWN drop-point 2) Allays logic needs to be more clever (they easily get stuck in a loop anytime a new item entity drops while they're "on their way" to deposit items. This needs to be resolved.) 3) Allays should be able to be assigned and unassigned item type via redstone (Such as a BELL causing them to drop their item type they're holding if they haven't found any matches, and a dispenser being able to assign an item type if one isn't already assigned.) 4) Allays carrying items should be indestructible, immune to all damage types (not just invulnerable from the player)---there is ZERO benefit to gameplay for having the allay DIE while carrying out it's slave labor....particularly in light of the difficulty in obtaining the mob 5) Vexs should be able to be captured and "healed" as a method for getting more Allays. This gives another benefit to pillager type farms as you can build one specifically to get more allays.
1, 3 and 4 are unnecessary, 2 was already solved and 5 already solved in 1.19.1. Even redstone filters can't be easily changed from 1 type to another and they still work. And you can use wool and noteblocks with a clock to permanently assign 1 allay to 1 noteblock
@@cubicmetre afaik it was implemented to strictly only ignore damage done by (or that can be connected to) the player that 'owns' the allay. Presumably for the purpose that you don't damage them when (for example) accidentally hitting them during instant mining and the like.

As of right now the allays won't change the meta massively. Especially considering how difficult it is to obtain them in survival. They could change it a bit to make it more practical. About the performance, we could build a unstackables module in a main storage located either in the nether or in lazy chunks in a way that we send the items in batches to be sorted, specially considering the amount of unstackable items we throw in the storage is massively lower than anything else it shouldn't be an issue to have it somewhere else and only used from time to time.

The fact that allays pick items by their ID and not the name is actually very useful, you can make a perfect ID item sorting machine, and also easily sort out nonstackable items (which is very hard to do normal way). Allays is an entity, which is kinda bad for pc productivity, but just allay in a minecart is 1-block-sized, meanwhile complex redstone sorters are like 1x4x6 blocks per stackable item. I think allay is worth it. Definitely better than copper golem randomizer, but copper golem could've been useful for other things.
Copper golems are really useless to be fair. You can get the same with a chicken and a pressure plate... Or well.. dropper randomizers or dispenser (with shulkers) randomizers
It be nice if the Allay remembers the note (regardless of instrument) of last note block they used. They remove the last note if they can't find a block playing it, or shift right clicked with an empty hand or certain item. Setting a new note next cycle.
Gday cubic!!! I’d like to say that I’ve started posting videos of my tries at storage tech, and I wanted to thank you specially. You have been my favorite redstone UA-camr currently. Thank you, for you inspired me!
As long as your noteblock plays slightly quicker then every 30 seconds, it won't swap it for another. So you just have to add the allays, one by one, ensuring the fist note each hears is the one you want. Its fiddely, but do-able. Just don't ever turn off your noteblocks, or you have to start from scratch.
Holy crud, I just played the snapshot and realized you can use the allay to create single stacks of the same item within shulkers then use that to pass through an item encoder to help sort and store as "packets" via parallels processing. But its always a bit disappointing when they change mechanics once the official version is released so building a contraption based on this made me depressed...
as of right now i feel like the allay is going to be a failed mob. for starters, getting them is ridiculous, you need to go exploring, to have a chance at encountering maybe 1, maybe 3 of them. once you have those 3 allys, you cant breed them, so if you are ever in need of more than 3 you need to get lucky again. and this looks like the type of mob that is actually good in bigger cuantities. plus, the fact that it can die easily if left unatended (like any other pet in this game) can be devastating when you can get them and then is the collection thing. is way to clunky right now. is never going to be as relievable as what we already have. i suppose that they will change these things, and of course even as it is right now there is going to be some uses for them, but this is a mob that very few players are going to interact with in the long run
Awesome video! I'm excited to see what people will use the allay for, but tbh I'm not sure if it would be as great for stationary sorting systems and will be better for on the go stuff
Packing allays together and managing their linking kinda reminds me of old school iron farms. Maybe it's possible to have contraptions that after a reload, reset the links on allays by shuffling them and/or the note blocks around.
Allays are another new sound sensitive mob. They spawn in reasonable but seemingly unfinished, or non fully implemented locations. They must come from the same new dimension that the warden is guarding, that we may wait to see in later updates :P
Have to admit I'm not a fan of the throwing behaviour as well. Acting as a sort of moving hose means the items just seem to go in a bit of a random splatter against the noteblock, which weakens the usefulness of a free-moving allay. Still, at least there's some utility visible.
The throwing behaviour seems pretty good actually, it doesn't spread randomly like it does for items from a dropper, the Allay seems to just try and throw the items directly towards the centre of the noteblock. Which means when they are immobilised in minecarts they throw the items perfectly aligned.
maybe pull the allay out of the storage, leave one in, trigger a first note block so that allay is bound to this one, quickly bring another allay, sound another noteblock, repeat the cycle until you have filled the 30 sec, then you can just sound the first noteblock again when the first allay looses focus, since the other ones are still focused on their own noteblock. This way you can individually specify noteblocks. You would need to have a way of automatically moving the allays in and out of the storage, since I assume chunk unloads will break it...
Interesting testing and concept. I wonder if you could combine this mechanic with your dolphin unloading/crafting concept to create a smaller survival practical autocrafting system.
Looks to me like Mojang is making mob alternatives to old Redstone stuff. Like allay are water transportation or hopper tube, and the skulk is a Redstone line with button
that, and/or don't have all the allays initially loaded - for example, just store them in the nether. 30 seconds is plenty of time to switch off all noteblock clocks (the global noteblock clock), transport an allay over, link it with its noteblock, and start the clock(s) again.
But we already HAD unstackable item sorting, it was just very complicated and different for each item. As soon as the update comes out, I'm gonna build an unstackable item sorter without Allays just to spite them. This is glow squids all over again I swear- but dang they are kinda cute and useful.
does your "unstackable item sorter" also pick up item drops as you're out harvesting items? No...didn't think so. What did the golem do? push buttons. I'll use a chicken and a pressure plate instead for that "feature".

No, you are wrong... We did not have unstackable item sorter for all the types of stuff that exist... Differenr Armor types, weapons, type of boats, color of shulkers, and so many others... Try making a unstackable item that sorts diamond armor from iron armor, or netherite or gold or leather, I dare you, or hoes, from pickaxes, from swords, bows, etc
Allays allow us to filter several unstackable items that we could not filter before. And is a way of filtering stuff without the need of a lot of redstone in a small space.
I think u can place wool on all the other side of a noteblock but the allay and only the allay that noteblock is facing will link to it because wool can stop vibrations or sounds now
I hate it when copper golem goes amogus and summons a berserk beaver colony against Harry Potter and Harry Potter fights back by calling Ben and drinking lean mixed with mug root beer at 3 am

To avoid the issue of his slowness it would be possible to place 13 allays in a single cauldron in order to achieve hopperspeed

Silentwisperer's design was so good. Too bad it's outdated. Mojang needs to tweak the item pickup cooldown; it's way too long right now.

For allay item assignment, just assign before the minecart, then just toss its preferred item on the minecart.

Wavetechs new main storage will be much better, but will only really work if you have empty shulker box stacking enabled.
