  • Prepare for first start up with compression check and review of carbs. We don't get to the start up yet as we look at the original carpet, remove some windshield trim, paint the data tag area, remove the windshield, clean the glue and sealant. New visors are assembled. A drive shaft boot replacement. The grille, mesh, crossbar are removed and installed with a look at those outer trim clips.

Hello, you really picked a great car to restore. This 300J brings back a lot of great memories for me. I was just 8 years old in 1963, but I was already a mini Gearhead and continued to be to to this time. I was born in 1955 in Detroit. My mom's side of the family all worked at the Chrysler Corporation and my dad's side all worked at the Ford Motor Company, until 1958, when my entire family moved to Southern California at time, but through the 60s and 70s my family still drove Chryslers. We had two 300s, a 63 Newport. We also had a 64 300,and various Plymouths and many Valients. There a few Dodges. Our last was a 1969 300, with a 440 4 barrel under hood. We used to tow travel trailers. Those 300s handled those trailers like they weren't there. The 63s and 64 were around for a long time, therefore I spent a lot of time in the backseat. Those 63s and 4s as powerful and and good-looking. I really liked the front end styling. At that time, the faces of all Chryslers had a cute way of looking back at you in a shy yet capable way. I know that sounds kinda weird, but if you're a Gearhead you know what I mean. The exterior styling had a very sculptured look and they had a much different look than the 62s, I like those too. Especially the Astrodome instrumentation along with what Chrysler called "Panelesent back lighting that gave off a very beautiful look. No bulbs were used, but that light seemed to glow that was beautiful to see. I'm sure the Panelesent lighting was expensive to install and service. But nevertheless beautiful. Today I'm a total Ford man, but Chryslers will always have a great place in my heart. I think we should always have a great respect for the Chrysler Corporation.

I remember years ago (1970's) seeing a nice 300J in Sidney on Vancouver Island. I didn't know at the time how rare they were.

Hello Bob. Did you put in the old gasket or did you buy a new one? I mean the windshield. Regards

I used the old windshield gasket. It was still very flexible.

Love your "J"!! I recently acquired a "K," and I need some driver's side quarter window trim (the thin pieces). You don't have or know of a source for these used. do ya? I assume any coupe '63 or 64 would work (Newport)? Love the car and the channel!! RB
