Why would do a recap of one of the worst sonic games ever because that game looks like Final Fantasy more than Sonic because of the cutscenes and story! Sonic 06 was so bad even Sonic Boom did even worse than Sonic 06.

Honestly the worst part for me was the loading times. Insanely long and super painful.
When you summarize the story like this, it actually sounds decent. If anything it sounds like a story to be told from a final fantasy game, where they can flesh out the characters and of course give us those bittersweet endings. I'm guessing since the story of Sonic 06 was so similar to a Final Fantasy story, thats one of the reasons you decided to make a video besides trolling with that loading screen in the beginning because it's April fools day.
Neo Galactic Yeah, it amazing how this would been received wildly different if this was designed more as an RPG and less an action platformer. This ticks off so many RPG boxes except the actual gameplay, that when taken separately, the story is very workable.

Eh, I still say it's a really shitty story, and here's why: In addition to the entire story being ret-conned at the end, completely erasing all of its events from canon, there was also literally no reason for the story to happen in the first place. Instead of deciding "man, the sun god is really powerful and dangerous, and we would probably be doomed if it were ever unleashed, but we could destroy it now with no negative repercussions, so maybe we should do that," they decide to try to unleash its power, which they know is extremely risky, just so they can fucking bring one person back to life. Which, of course, causes the literal apocalypse.

An antagonist is, apparently, always needed. And if it's not pure evil, it needs a little more relatable cause, such as thirst for power or overwhelming grief.
I believe we're currently reaching a roadblock in creativity as there's nothing more to invent that wasnt already invented.
Take all the recent remakes as an example...

Sonic's story was not pointless, him saving Elise every time prevented her from crying and freeing Iblis, that's a detail no one talks about and that's why her scenes with Sonic are not about romance but about enjoying life in a simple and genuine way.
Contrary to what SEGA and ST might think, Sonic 06 wasn’t devoid of good elements or signs of potential. If anything, the entire game is the embodiment of missed potential. If SEGA and ST weren’t so pissed scared to go anywhere near the game and actually drew from the good elements present from it, they could actually put together a masterpiece with enough time given.
People say Sonic '06 was designed to reboot the series, yet nothing about it even remotely seems like a reboot. It very much looks like it takes place in the same continuity as previous Sonic games
And it wasn't even considered canon until 5 years after the fact.
Prince of Alchemy it was meant to be a reboot but very early during the development, yuji naka left the team so they decided to make it a grand game and changed everything
There's a thing called a "soft reboot", where it still takes place in the same continuity, but it's still supposed to be a "new start" for the series.
Sonic 06 COULD have been a very good game. It's a shame they weren't able to work on it longer and make it... good
Major props for just recapping the game without snarky comments lol. While the middle gets really messy with time travel and the plot has a lot of "and then something never foreshadowed happens" the beginning and end hold a really genuine attempt to tell a Sonic Adventure style story. This game is so bizarre with absurd but good intentions.

for the remake of this game we're trying to make this still have the same story but basically what you have done, explain it more in detail to make it more interesting, and more encouraging to keep playing and discover more

I've never played Sonic '06, and from what I've heard it's a game that not many people like to remember. But the story sounds amazing, and the concept with the gameplay that you described with being able to play as multiple different characters each with different abilities sounds amazing. And like I said, the classic time travel story with Sonic sounds awesome. Now I want SEGA to do a remake of this game, hopefully learning from their mistakes. Because this sound like it could be a good game, if done right

I can comprehend this recap waaaay more than how '06 tried to do with cutscenes. I mean I can see that the execution of the story is still 06's weakness, but at least I know what it was trying to do. It SOUNDS very interesting and then you realize stuff like Elise getting kidnapped about a thousand times just to get things moving in the story.

The story Focuses largely on Shadow and Silver's roles in the plot, Sonic has no major role in this story other than rescuing the princess whenever she is kidnapped.
Retro Hub, well trying to make sure the Day of Disaster doesn’t happen is still major part of the plot. So I say Sonic a major role, it’s just not as major as Shadow’s or Silver’s.

The best part of this game is that by the end, none of it actually happened.
From 0:16 to 1:16 was the Now Loading Screen. Yup that's about right for Sonic '06.

This game definitely shows how dangerous it is to have time travel as a major part of the story. It's not easy to write it correctly.

i feel as though people always hated sonic 06 story for the fact its a bit confusing along with all the bad aspects such as gameplay, how it looks in game without cutscenes etc. i was able to understand what happens and in what sense (tho not why blaze was there thanks for pointing that out). i always thought it was pretty great storywise. an now reading the comments i have to agree its sounds great as an rpg lol. great video.

If this had been an RPG , if it had more time, and a bit more budget it could have been legendary.
I hope they make a remake of Sonic ‘06 one day. And that it can finally be as good as it could have been.

That's actually a pretty cool plot. being adapted as a 3d platformer game it wouldn't fit for this kind of plot, but an rpg styled game would, though i don't think it would not fit with a game about being all about speed, so i think being an animated series would work the best.
This is a pretty nice story, I think the main problem with the game was it's gameplay
Overall this game was not bad it just had a lot of imperfections for a modern console but the stories build ups was on point coming from all Sonic, Shadow and Silver and even Mephiles with the music and the stages. It just didn't bring the fast action playstyle like with the others but in reality, I enjoyed this game very much and I think I won't have a strong attachment to a sonic story like this one never. I'm so glad my parents also had a really good audio sound equipment honestly without that it would had not been the same feeling.

Fitting this channel covers this game. Doesn't the plot seem more fitting for Final Fantasy from all the drama and the constant looming threat of an apocalypse that becomes part of the plot early on to prevent from happening (but the failure to do so produces the end sequence of the game, leading to a hideous monster / god that must be sealed away / destroyed)? Also for the generic techy guy, Eggman would make a good Cid.
Judging from other comments I am not the first to think this. I heard Sonic 2006 was originally developed by Sega under another name without Sonic in mind at all, but for some reason they decided to shoehorn Sonic and friends in. That alone probably isn't what totaled the game, but the following changes to make it more of a "Sonic" game, combined with rushing for the Christmas season, may have.
EDIT: Another point. A trope (right word?) common in the Final Fantasy series is, some sort of strong empire conducts a scientific study or operation that tampers with supernatural powers, and it has unintentional, terrible consequences. Also the whole "Elise crying will release a god of destruction" thing sounds like something out of a storybook.

A game that was so hated it retconned itself out of the timeline at the ending.
Then other sonic games happened like generations, colors, secret rings, and the black knight.

I loved this game, if it didn't flop with all the glitches and issues, it would have defined the direction of this franchise, and we wouldn't have any of this silly sonic boom, and sonic unleashed stuff.
I liked the more serious tone of this game.
Unleashed could have worked actually. They just had too many night stages in ratio to stages. The day stages were super fun. he nights were way too long and sluggish. If they reduced the night and increased the day, it would have been amazing.
Sonic Unleashed was pretty damn good imo.
Yeah it had a lighter tone compared to 06, but it still had a damn solid story and I found the gameplay fun tbh. A game doesn’t need a serious tone to have a good story.
(Including the night stages, granted they weren’t nearly as good as the day)
