    I promised it in May, just in the nick of time. Some real life stuff has delayed production, and I am prepping to move, so I know there may be delays in the future. For now, the May Patron Video will be later this week, and I'll be jumping straight into the next Patron pick (another RPG).

    I'm currently playing through this with my kids (6 and 10 years old). They got hooked instantly and are nuts about the story, the later additions are too difficult for them but they're fine just watching and reading the dialogue. They absolutely lost their shit with the revelations at the end of disc 3. They progressed through all the stages of grief, denial, anger acceptance and so on. The next morning they were discussing it over their Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

    If ever there was a game that needed a revival, it is Legend of Dragoon. To this day, the gameplay, story, and execution was completely unique, refreshingly original, and had an epic story and conclusion that is still talked about 20 years later. If ever there was a game that came close to outdoing the masterwork that is Final Fantasy VII, this is it.

    Haschel have one of the best histories of all rpg characters, really underrated, travelling 20 years to find his missing daughter, but discovers she already dead, but left a son. Now he fight alongside Dart (they meet before game events), making his journey painful and a the same time happy. Lost his daughter, but found his grandson and new friends to fight for, side by side. Amazing.

      Eeeehhhh, I wouldn't go that far, I don't think I would say it's the best RPG in the PSOne. IMO, I don't think it breaks the top five, maybe even top ten on the PSOne. Valkyrie Profile, Vagrant Story, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, Breath of Fire III & IV, Suikoden I & II, Parasite Eve I & II, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Wild Arms I & II, Grandia, Legend of Legaia, Persona 2 (both of them), Dragon Quest VII, Tales of Destiny II, and Lunar SSSC & EBC are JRPGs that I'd personally place above Legend if the Dragoon. If we start counting Tactical JRPGs then the List sky rockets even higher. It was a great game at the time, but man that story just drags around halfway of the third disc. It just kind of becomes, idk, I don't want to say bad, but not good. I loved the additions, but kind of hated that the Dragoon transformations were kind of useless. I would say it's a great game, but not among the best of all time, or really even the best the PSOne had to offer. Although, that's kind of a testament to the Systems library, that a game this good doesn't even crack the jrpg top ten or twenty jrpg titles on it.
      Of course it's subjective, and on gamefaqs it's listed at thirteenth best jrpg for the PSX, beating out Grandia, BoF III & IV, Wild Arms I & II, DQVIII, Legend of Legaia, and Person 2 (it beating out BoF, Grandia, and DQ kind of stunned me tbh, those are widely held as pinnacles/classic of the JRPG sub-genre). I can see it beating our Persona and Wild Arms, I don't think those aged as well and I think I may like them more from a nostalgic perspective or from a analytical one (Wild Arms and Persona respectively). Such a great console though, I think it beat out the PS2 for JRPGs. Is parasite Eve and tales of games considered action-RPGs and not jrpgs? If so it raises its spot by a bit :P

    • @jaypond4368

    • @blkwng
      @blkwng 7 років тому +4

      Wade Schipprack the comment said one of the best, and all the ones you mentioned, are in your opinion. others will have different opinions. I don't put ff8, 9, legend of legai, persona 2, dq 7 or many of the rs you mentioned above of legend of dragoon AT ALL. and yet some people might, like you. and many of the people here who liked dragoon would agree with me. so it's important you state in your opinion. this game for me is without a doubt one of the best jrpg that came out

    • @wschippr1
      @wschippr1 7 років тому

      blkwng
      I did say it was my opinion as well as a collective opinion (which should hold weight for the best of all time type scenario). I would have liked it a lot more if the story stayed more coherent, it kind of fizzled out sometime during the third disc. Mechanically it's amazing, but JRPGs need a pretty strong story. I think a good story is as important than mechanics. Maybe even more so, idk, I can play a JRPG with mediocre mechanics but a good story. Not the reverse, great mechanics definitely, but only good? Nah. It's one of the few genres where the story really makes or breaks the game. It kind of sucks as LotD's story started off fairly strong. It looked like it was going to be a political drama with a puppeteer pulling the strings and a dangerous supernatural force lurking in the shadows. Too bad, it could have been an epic story, it had the foundation for one.
      I guess DQ7 isn't worth playing now that a better version is one the 3DS and the same for Persona and BoF III on the PSP. But a lot of the others don't have better versions anywhere else. Which is odd considering everything seems to get remade/ported to portables today.

      blkwng other than ff8 I actually think those you listed did have weak story's, and in some cases mechanical issues, I thought dragoons story was phenomenal and this recap while it does go over it pretty thoroughly doesn't capture the drama due to the differences in tough story fights compared to traditional encounters

  • @ronjohnson2760
    @ronjohnson2760 7 років тому +49

    WHAT is Legend of Dragoon you ask? Short answer: one of the greatest games of the PsX era. Heck, of all time.
    Ok,, you want more details? The story is a masterpiece, and just might be one of the greatest stories ever told in video game history. The characters are unforgettable, the plot is full of twists and turns. You learn more and more about the characters as the story progresses. Rose in particular is masterfully written.
    Gameplay wise, the game is tough. Some boss fights are very difficult, and you can easily die (which is not common these days). Dragoon form is powerful and FEELS powerful, but is also weak at the same time (it is not an "i win" button). Additions are fun, and are rewarding when done completely. Items play an important role in the game. The game rewards exploration with some powerful repeatable items (items that dont go away after one use, these items are invaluable), weapons, and even optional boss fights which can be quite challenging.
    Optional Boss example: Magician Faust. This is an end game optional boss who is both so fast (he gets to attack MULTIPLE times for every ONE time ONE of your characters acts), and hits your party so hard that you HAVE to have a very particular gear set to beat him. Oh and some of that gear is missable and other pieces of that gear cost a completely ridicules amount of money in a game where money is VERY scarce. Even when equipped properly he is easily harder than the final boss of the game who is already no slouch.
    The musical score is just like the rest of the game. Incredible.
    All in all, it is a masterpiece. 10/10, if you haven't played it, GO! NOW! Play it! I COMMAND YOUUUUUUUU! No but seriously, its a fantastic game and i am certain you will not regret it.

      Really loved the "addition" system in the game, Albert is still my favorite character though he's a glass cannon. I tried Final Fantasy games after Legend of Dragoon and honestly it was like trying to eat stones as dinner after having normal healthy edible delicious meal as lunch. Gave up and never looked back. Hope they remake or remaster this game, for many people have missed it out and besides, this game is pure gold both in terms of story and combat mechanics.

      Faust though.. My last playthrough, i sold everything but the equipment currently being used, bought nothing, and still was only able to afford two legend casques for the fight. Still one of the hardest fights around, but not nearly as difficult as chocobo racing in ffx..

    Most nostalgic game for me as a 8 year old trying to beat the game and getting lost and stuck every 15 minutes. Took me over a year to beat it with some restless Friday nights trying to find out where to go next only to fail and try the next day since there was no internet to cheat and watch a play through. I'll always love this game and it was a huge accomplishment only being 8.

This game talked about god, religion, race diversities, politics, apocalypse, love, friendship, loyalty, jealousy, and many other things. It had it all! And every thing left open in one of the four discs, was closed in the next disc. They didn't leave nothing to chance i guess. The story was so great and the way the story was delivered was even better. Truely a timeless masterpiece. I hope one day it'll get the deserved remake. Or i hope i get so rich that i can do the remake myself. A gem every player should try at least once.

    Why can't sony just remaster this game for us? Fans have been asking for a very long time. There have been so many Final Fantasy games created and FF7 has been remade numerous times. This game is by far more heart throbbing, epic and emotionally touching. PLEASE SOMEONE DO SOMETHING!

    • @kingofbudokai
      @kingofbudokai 7 років тому +4

      um....ff7 still hasn't had it's FIRST remake, the hell are you talking about? It got ported to steam, but that is not "remade" it plays exactly the same. Literally nothing was changed. Also, as a fan of both games, i don't agree that LoD is more "heart throbbing". Literally nothing in LoG tops aeris' death scene/burial. LoD has a way better story in general though, and top notch ending.

    I played Legend of Dragoon and it was a great game. I do hope it gets a PS5 remake and if it does, here’s a list of improvements.
    1. Let the players choose their additions during combat instead of changing each addition in the menu
    2. Show the weapons of each characters like new swords, rapiers, spears, bows, gloves, hammers and axes
    3. Show the hp of each enemy and boss during combat
    4. Add a fast travel system so players can go to certain areas like cities or dungeons
    5. Use fully voice acted moments in cutscenes
    6. Show the enemies in each location instead of a random encounter when the arrow turns red
    7. No limit in terms of items like potions and magic items
    8. New game plus
    9. Update the graphics
    10. Fix the script in terms of dialogue
    11. Keep the addition system
    12. Have more uses of each button during combat like circle, x, triangle and square when using additions
    13. Expand upon the minatos as well as the new the 102 species born from the divine tree
    And here’s my idea for the Legend of Dragoon PS5 remake voice cast.
    Dart: voiced by either Ray Chase* or Zach Aguilar or Robbie Daymond or max mittleman or David gallegher or Bryce papenbrook
    Rose: voiced by either Christina Vee* or Allegra Clark or Erica Mendez or Chermi Leigh
    Lavitz: voiced by either Max mittleman or Xander Mobus* or Ben diskin or steve valentine or Seth green or Todd haberkorn
    Shana: voiced by either chermi Leigh or Erica Mendez or Eden regiel*
    King Albert: voiced by either Ray Chase or Chris hackney*
    Haschel: voiced by either Fred tatascoire* or Gideon emerys or mark hamill or Patrick seitz
    Meru: voiced by either Erica Lindbeck or Christina Vee or Cassandra Lee Morris or Erica Mendez or Chermi Leigh*
    Kongol: voiced by either Patrick Seitz or Joe DiMaggio or Kevin Michael Richardson*
    Miranda: voiced by either Erica Lindbeck or Chermi Leigh or Laura Post or Julie Ann taylor or Britney Cox*
    Lloyd: voiced by either Robbie daymond* or Xander mobus or Robin atkin downes or crispen freeman or Kirk Thornton
    Melbu Framha: voiced by Either Kirk Thornton or Simon templemen or alistair Duncan or Darin de Paul* or Keith Silverstein or Richard ecpar

    Emperor doel: voiced by David Lodge or Patrick seitz* or Fred tatascoire or alistair Duncan or Simon templeman
    Lenus: voiced by either Erica Lindbeck* or Christina Vee or Grey Griffith or Chermi Leigh

    Playing TLoD was like playing an anime. The story and characters were both fantastic, the music was absolutely amazing, the cutscenes were well done, and the combat system was fantastic, especially the additions. If I had any critique of the game, it would have been the magic system, what little there was. I never liked having to use items to cast spells and then mash the button to make them stronger, because it always made my hand hurt and cramp up.
    When I replayed it as an adult, after many years of experience watching anime, I realized how similar it was in so many respects to anime, and it made me love it even more. Thanks for a great recap!

      Really? I don't think the game is that hard (the final boss is a pushover even without grinding.). I don't think i ever lost to a boss. Not even when i accidentally used dragoon form against the boss with the dragon staff. It's harder than several other rpgs, granted (ff8 is a cakewalk by comparison for example) but i never found it overly difficult. Love the addition system. Despite what Mike G said, haschels combos aren't that hard either. They were hard-ER when i was ten, but i recently (about a six months ago) replayed the game and had no problem with additions.

  • @AkaiAmeUltsch

    I remember playing this game for the first time. I had gotten it cheap because it was apart of the "Greatest Hits Collection" that Sony had (which basically meant that the price for games in this collection drop from $39.99 to $19.99), and I vividly remember getting to the desert where all of your battles are initiated when you touch a roaming monster. I ended up giving up on the game for about a year, then decided to try it again, but I had the knowledge of what was to come thanks to my previous experience.
    After I had gotten back to the point where I abandoned my journey in my previous play through, I soon figured out the 'Tricks of the Sand Shoots,' and got back to feeling that sense of wonder that everybody feels when they experience something new for the first time.
    This game was a Diamond among the Gems of it's Era. I Wish Sony would Follow the route of Square and do a Remake of this fantastic piece of art and story telling genius, or at least continue the story... but I really don't see either of those happening in my lifetime.
    Fantastic Video!

    OMG my childhood, I remember loving this game. I wish they made sequel.

    I'd rather a remake/remaster of this than ff7 tbh :) this wasn't a perfect game (due to spelling mistakes, and certain other little things here and there :)) but it was pretty damn close! The addition system/dragoons were epic as fuck! The story was awesome even though it kind of fell off sometimes but I was still immersed deeply into it :) This game has a special place in my heart along with legend of legaia and of course the ff series

      XgwtfbroX why can't we have a remake of both? They're both epic games. :)
