First computer to sing - Daisy Bell
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 гру 2008
- "Daisy Bell" was composed by Harry Dacre in 1892. In 1961, the IBM 7094 became the first computer to sing, singing the song Daisy Bell. Vocals were programmed by John Kelly and Carol Lockbaum and the accompaniment was programmed by Max Mathews. This performance was the inspiration for a similar scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do
I'm half crazy all for the love of you
It won't be a stylish marriage
I can't afford a carriage
But you'll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two. - Наука та технологія
my dudes, quit calling it creepy.
i find it rather wholesome. the IBM 7094's just trying his best, and succeeding.
Nobody is calling it creepy, Everybody is saying the same thing as you, Just hating on them instead of stating their opinion
no the melody is unsettling even if the lyrics are cute
@@user-jc8by2wj8g People are very much calling it creepy! It's just that as humans we like to feel "in" and with a group. So when one group is teased, we want to feel part of the dominant group. So the people reason get more likes and get pushed to the top.
i wouldn't say "trying".
Have you heard of re-interpretation? Kind of how like twinkle twinkle little star played in a robotic, slightly distorted monotone can sound creepy, this is a similar affect. Of course you can see the lighthearted side but both are equally as enjoyable.

@@TheWorldSpinsSlowly Yeah, imma make it like that, wait a sec
I don’t know why people say it’s scary. It’s honestly really sweet. A machine was given a voice, and out of all the songs it could have chosen, it chose a love song. It’s like it’s returning all of the love and tears that went into giving it a voice to sing with.
Even machines want to love and be loved.

How do people think this is creepy? This is soothing fr
Anything replicating human behavior that is not nearly perfect always makes people uneasy. It being 60 years old and made by people that are likely dead makes it much worse. The fact that it's singing a song that many parents would sing to their children makes it seem almost as though the nonhuman entity is attempting to make people relax. The technological achievement of making a computer sing in 1961 is astonishing, considering that computers back then simply had no off-the-shelf capabilities for that kind of thing. Not just the hardware and the software, but the whole theoretical framework behind speech synthesis and computer-generated music had to be invented from scratch to allow this. To make one of these imposing electronic machines whimsical and charming at the same time took it to a whole other level. This was a brilliant sneak-preview demonstration of what computers were capable of.
