@@kelsey1467 That's a really good point. A hit show just can't build any kind of momentum with a constantly changing cast. On the other hand, I've been binge watching another Spelling Goldberg favorite from that era, Starsky & Hutch. I sure wish I could have done a TV Tales on that one. Their chemistry together, great acting, great guest stars, and fine writing really made that show underrated. Not only did it lead to Lethal Weapon and so many 'cop buddy' shows, but it was just great TV, especially for that era. Mr. Spelling really knew how to pick winners!
@@mikeh.9734 I have an interesting tv question do you like shows that are structured with a case of the week style or a show that has a bit more of a narritive I prefer the latter cause I feel like when a show has more of a narritive it gets you to care about the characters more and what their going through
@@kelsey1467 Good question! I think I just like a great show with great writing, period. lol These days, I would say few shows grab me very much. I love Better Call Saul, which is very much a narrative with evolving plots. I think that formula works best, too. If you go back to classic TV from the 70s, even shows with a case of the week still had a nice narrative carrying the characters forward- like Emergency! had wild rescues every week, but the chemistry of the firefighters between rescues and their activities always drove the overall show that week, or the doctors at Rampart, as the case might be. Monk is a good example of narrative driving the overall plot, while a different case each week sometimes adds to the narrative, or gets in its way. Really great writing and acting on that show!
Goldberg: "...and we had to tell Kate that she couldn't do it (Kramer vs. Kramer)...". What a lousy excuse! Here's what really happened: Though the producers of Kramer changed the movie’s schedule three times to accommodate Kate's Charlie’s Angels schedule, Aaron Spelling was determined not to let her do the movie. He switched her Angels schedule every time so the new Kramer schedule didn’t work. Finally he told the producers, “If she does the movie, it will never see the light of day!” because he’d file an injunction against them. Spelling was afraid if any of the actresses did a movie, they would think they were movie stars and leave the show. How wrong he was! If he had allowed Kate to take that golden opportunity, she would have stayed with the show as long as it lasted. He needlessly, intentionally kept Kate from doing Kramer. So she decided she would finish that third season, then leave the show. This is according to Kate!
I just loved the show of CHARLIE'S ANGELS! IT WAS MY FAVORITE SHOW WITH KATE JACKSON! SHE WAS MY FIRST FAVORITE ACTRESS! I Just loved her in the TV show! I still watch the reruns of CHARLIE'S ANGELS!💝💝💝💯💯💯👍👍👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
It was so good but losing Farrah hurt alot. Kris pretty much made up for it but losing Kate hurt a little too. After that it was better than nothing but it never really recaptured the same magic.
I loved the first 3 seasons because Kate Jackson was in it. But of course I loved the first season for the special bond and chemistry Kate, Farrah and Jaclyn had. It was also the season Kate had the most fun. But I loved all 3 seasons. However, in season 3 the scripts got really bad at times. And I didn't like the fashion in it. The 80s were close... Oh I so loved the 70s fashion with those cool slacks and all. Ahh, makes me feel nostalgic...
Season one was the best. After Cheryl Ladd , she and Jacklyn Smith would parade around in skimpy outfits, once Kate Jackson left, it seemed like they were all vying for the sexiest. Season one you didn't have that, even though Farrah became the breakout star.
Farrah's departure was not good, but Cheryl did a great job replacing her. IMO, Kate (my fav) was truly the glue that held the show together. The show was never same after Kate left.
They lost everything when they hired Tanya. She was so unlike all the others who came before her. Not pretty, not glamorous, and her character was not credible as a detective. Core viewers of the show realized Shelley was actually good when they saw how horrible Tanya was in the show. She was basically ignored by the press and rejected by the show's fans. And that was how the show met sudden death.
Another thing that is so disturbing about these stories is how these artists - Farrah and Kate in particular - wanted to grow in their art - and the men running things wanted to keep them pigeon into these roles that focused more on how they looked than on their acting talents. Farrah was not a diva or selfish in the way they portrayed her. Look at any of her early days interviews and you see a young woman who was humble, not into the Hollywood nightlife, was a bit uncomfortable with all of the sex-symbol attention, and who really wanted to do serious acting. It took her a while to get something like The Burning Bed - and her performance helped to redeem her reputation and show people that not only could she play a complex dramatic role, but that she really wanted to. And for Kate to not be allowed to take on what could have been a career and life-changing role, was just dirty.
@@Justintime619part of an actors job, especially when you coined the concept & name of the show (as Kate did) is to portray their character to the best of their ability. Them wanting more creative freedom, so they could make the angels into more fully flushed out characters… is exactly the job they were contracted to do. 👍🏼
Watching this show as a young adult in 2020 is so amazing, it makes me want to time travel back to the 70s when the hair was fabulous and the world was just starting to accept that women could lead on their own.
when Cheryl Ladd came on in season 2. it became the Kris Monroe show she saved that show!! they should have had Jaclyn smith step up more after Kate left, and poor shelly hack didn't even have a chance

@@juanecalh this is because Cheryl Ladd had the most fighting spirit of the three girls (after Kate left) and she was the best actress of the 4th season roundup. Jaclyn Smith would not have been able to bear the burden. Really, Jaclyn was best suited to her 1st season third banana status. She was so delicate and precious that she needed the other two girls to surround her and protect her. Farrah's protection was that magnificent lion's mane. And Kate took charge by natural strength of character. I think Kelly became somewhat less appealing during the 2nd season. And poor Shelly... she was a scapegoat. And in the end, I think maybe Tanya Roberts was the most sweetly innocent of the six women.
@@SOCORROSILVA-in7px why do you write this? They indeed have stuff in common. Both were icons, for instance. Both had long, memorable careers, many fans who admire them to this day. Thank you so much for this wonderful documentary! It's the best on Charlie's Angels I have seen so far. A lot of them are very gossipy and disrespectful, even nasty and unfair when it comes to Kate Jackson. But this one is so very well done, acknowledging Kate's amazing contributions to this show. And unlike other documentaries, here Kate gets to tell her side of the story and she does it in a fun and candid way. I love it!!
Thanks for your high praise! I've said many times that Kate was the glue that really helped put the parts of the show together in the beginning- and held it together as long as she was there. In many ways, all six original angels were mistreated in one way or another during the course of the show, but alas...such is life. It's often unfair. At least I can say they are all fine ladies and real role models for women everywhere. That's perhaps the greatest legacy of Charlie's Angels. And one even Mr. Spelling would likely agree with...
@@tonyarceneaux286 Hi Tony, I've done TV all my life! As for TV Tales, unfortunately, we ended the series after 'Saved by the Bell.' I was working on 'One Day At A Time' before the Angels, but actress Bonnie Franklin did not cooperate with us enough in the end to make the episode work. At the same time, E! moved in an entirely different programming direction with reality TV. So, it was the end of the E! True Hollywood Story and all the other shows that originally built E! Entertainment into such a great network in the 90s, not so much anymore, unfortunately.
Kate Jackson was the best Angel hands down. And her creative input, her beauty and charisma and her acting performance, her adding gravitas to the show, all of that, the whole package, really made the show. Why didn't they mention Kate's outstanding performance in "Making Love"? She was extremely close to an Oscar nomination! I will love Kate Jackson forever!
Bosley was one of the angels, too! We used to talk about who was our favorite angel. Usually came down to Jill, Kelly, and Kris, but Bosley was always mentioned as a possible favorite! I just loved the show. Thanks for the shows, and thanks for the documentary.
I am loving this effort. #1. I'm a car 'nut.' #2. I've, forever, crushed on Kate Jackson. What does Ms. Jackson reference, in this presentation? Watch, folks!
I know what you're getting at, Don... and interestingly, for those connoisseurs of classic 70s shows, there was actually another female character from a popular PI series who also drove what Sabrina did... those little autos really got around back then! lol
Season 4 is my favorite because it’s the only one in which I love all three angels (not a huge fan of Kate or Tanya). And season 1 is my second favorite.
My favorite seasons are: Season 1 (the original Angels of course) Season 2 Season 3 Never watched s 4 and 5 because my favorite Angel Sabrina Duncan was not in it. And all the s4 glamour was no longer the cool 70s Charlie’s Angels. The magic was gone. That said the glamourous s4 Angels would have been perfect for a show like Dynasty!
David Doyle was so perfect as Bosley- no one else could have pulled off that character quite the same way. He really was masterful in creating the character!
My favorite Angel being Kate Jackson, I was heartbroken when she left but when Shelley Hack came on, it wasn't long before I warned to her. I felt she represented a bit of a departure and a welcome one at that. Tiffany came from BOSTON and not California. I feel they didn't give her enough of a chance. My least favorite " angel" and, for that matter, one of my least favorite " Bond" girls, was Tanya Roberts.
Ironically, the addition of Tanya at the last season was what the producers always wanted since the beginning of the series: a brunette, a blonde, and a red-head.
@@lorimiller4301 Spelling made a big deal about the looks of the new Angel being a very important consideration. And her beauty should blend in with the beauty and style of Jaclyn and Cheryl. On both counts, Tanya failed. Tanya had already been passed over in the past when she tried out for the show and S-G had even announced that previous applicants need not apply. We all know Tanya was hired for the sleaze factor. She made no secret of her utter willingness to exploit her physical assets and the production mistakenly thought that jiggle was all it took to make the show work.
@@chiensyang A sorta stupid idea. And when they got the red head in Tanya, did that add anything at all to the show? There were rumors too before her debut on the show that Shelley's hair would be dyed strawberry blonde. Heavens, good thing it didn't happen!
This was such a good documentary! I loved Charlie's angels as a little kid and still do! You just don't see truly beautiful ppl anymore. They did a great job selecting the woman for the show. I watch it still and just love it. I had the FF barbie doll and I think the Jaclyn Smith one too, I was 9 y/o by then, had watched from the start in '76.
I always thought his big star quality was getting jealous of all her publicity. Poor Farrah became a phenomenal actress and she was not even with Lee by then. The Burning Bed was fantastic. May she RIP.
I; agree totally---it had nothing to do with movies. Chris S... is right. Lee, was too domineering& old fashioned. Nothing wrong with being a housewife; but Farrah did not want that. I, liked Farrah; but she got what she deserved when she latched on to #Ryan because she made herself loo worse than cheap by being with him some 25 yes. or so& never married& Lee never slapped her around like Ryan did. They had. Horrible fights!!!!!
I beg to disagree. Farrah had always set her eyes on doing movies, on being a movie star. Spelling even had to convince her to try doing TV. She wasn't looking for long-term TV exposure. Sure, CA gave her tremendous visibility and she did it while waiting for her big break. When her popularity zoomed, she had the opportunity to go make movies. Choose materials of her own liking. Both Lee and Farrah thought she was meant for bigger things.
You are 100% right, Claudia! Kate was amazing and gorgeous and clearly the best. By far! As for the twat in this thread: Coog, how dare you insult a woman! Actually two women!!!
Mr.Lakso killed the show. He sabotaged Shelley because he wanted a jiggly actress to replace Kate. He obviously thought Cheryl made it because she regularly appear in a bikini. Guess what, Lakso got his wish in Tanya who promptly ushered the show to cancellation hell.
I love Making Love, a film classic. Needs to be a cult classic, too, if it isn’t already. Mr. Nolan Miller was an icon who was instrumental in making Charlie’s Angels an unforgettable gem.
It's with a very heavy heart I must report the death of another Angel- in fact, my personal favorite, Tanya Roberts. She passed away officially on Jan 4, 2021, after fighting for her life since a collapse on Christmas Eve. After sitting across from her for a couple of interviews for E! in her own home, I have to say this is such shocking and devastating news. I'm at least proud that we captured her true essence in this Charlie's Angels special- and now I have to dedicate this documentary to her specifically. She was truly a character but also a very kind and sweet person. As I once told her, Tanya, don't ever lose your wings! May she rest in peace. . . **LATE BREAKING NEWS** Tanya is still alive after all! As Mark Twain once put it in a matter of speaking, "reports of her demise have been greatly exaggerated." She is reportedly in ICU, though, so much-needed prayers for Tanya will be greatly appreciated.
@@lorimiller4301 I'm a firm believer that as human beings, we should strive to learn from sad events that take place. I love Charlie's Angels...it's one of my top 3 favorite shows of all time....the other 2 are The Golden Girls and Wonder Woman with Lynda Carter. After I learned the unfortunate cause of Tanya's death, I made it a point to have my Mom tested regularly for UTI's. My Mom is over 80 and UTI's can be very common amongst women of a particular age. As with all health issues, detecting it early can make all the difference.
There's absolutely no doubting the impact that Charlie's Angel's had on public consciousness. I was just a young boy of 7-12 years old during its original airing and so I'm pretty sure that it passed by me and most of my peers the first time around. We were very much aware of it during subsequent reruns, however, and there's no question that all of these ladies were front and centre icons of our sexual awakenings! I'd like to less shallow about it and tell you that we also really enjoyed the writing and the nuance of the characters etc but I'd be lying and you, dear reader, would know full well that I was lying! That being said, *now* there's a deeper appreciation of the show beyond the obvious beauty of its stars and it quite clearly deserves its fondly remembered place in the historical record of TV. This was a very enjoyable watch and it was entirely engaging to hear The "Angel's" tell their stories.
Thank you to whoever uploaded this!!! Finally a documentary with all 6 actresses! I always wanted to know what Shelley thought about her time and exit from the show. 🙂
You're welcome, Ernestine! I'm the producer and finally have this piece archived. When I did these interviews, I have to say I was surprised to discover I only lived about 10 minutes away from Shelley's home in Santa Monica. She was delightful and professional-- and I really felt bad for her with how she was treated in her experience with the show. She certainly wasn't treated like an Angel! But thankfully, she appears to have handled her Hollywood experience better than most!
@@mikeh.9734 Thank you again!! 🙂 I was born the year Shelley was on Charlie's Angels in the 4th season and she's another one of my favorite angels besides Jaclyn. I felt bad for her too and glad to know she didn't worry too much about it from the interview you did with her. 🙂
Just loved that show as a little girl in the 70s!! There were few role models for girls then they and the bionic woman were it!! I still have both the board games still in my closet! Very interesting information about the show. Thanks for posting this!
I loved the Bionic Woman, too! As for the Angels, I collected their bubble gum cards which were stills from the show. I still remember carrying around Cheryl Ladd's card of her posing for the knife thrower in 'Circus of Terror.' LOL
Farrah Fawcett said the she was the athletic one, Kate was the smart one & Jaclyn was the pretty one. Even Farrah new that Jaclyn Smith the most beautiful one on the show. Jaclyn Smith was hands down the most beautiful of all the angels. Her face and hair are perfection. Jaclyn has a sexy voice and a very good body too.
Farrah was the sexy one. The phenomenon!! The one men lusted after! That hair that smile that body!! Jaclyn and Kate were both beautiful but Farrah was the stand out!!
Farrah wasn't the most beautiful but she had charisma, sex appeal and a certain vulnerability with the big eyes and pouty, open mouth. The messy hair and whispering voice said the opposite of Jaclyn Smiths' porcelain skin, perfect hair and uptight self-consciousness. Men probably thought they'd have a chance with Farrah but wouldn't have a chance with Jaclyn. Or they sensed it subconsciously. Farrah just had the magic "It".

An iconic TV show of the 1970's not to mention a pop-culture phenomenon that will never die!!! A great role model for any young girl growing up!!! The movies just didn't do the TV show justice!!! They didn't understand the concept!!! The women were anything but Angels!!! All three movies just turned out to be gimmicks!!!🧐😎
It's funny how they wanted to fire Jaclyn so bad, but in the end, she's the only one who stayed until the end of the show. And David Doyle, too (R.I.P)
Thank you for that sentiment! I thought about TV Tales recently when we tragically lost Eddie Van Halen. Before writing and producing this episode on Charlie's Angels, I started on One Day At A Time- just as Valerie Bertinelli had left Ed and their rocky marriage behind. We'd had a set visit with her on Touched By An Angel out in Utah, but the rocker in me kept wanting to add a lot to the story about Van Halen. lol You know, I actually was going for sort of a Yoko Ono motif since Valerie and David Lee Roth had so much friction. My boss, Robert Bentley, said this isn't a music show, it's about TV. lol Unfortunately, that whole episode fell through last minute because Bonnie Franklin refused to discuss the series in an interview. We'd already gotten some great stuff from the other actors. By the time we aired this episode on the Angels, we were strongly exploring repackaging it as a True Hollywood Story, instead. TV Tales was doomed from many casts not wanting the behind-the-scenes truth to come out. Such is life in Hollywood...never quite what it seems! lol
Kate Jackson was and will always be Angel #1, the woman who created it, the best actress, the Angel they were never able to replace. She made the show. KATE WAS THE BEST ANGEL. Farrah was the phenom, Jaclyn was third banana which suited her well. She was never able to be the leader or the phenom. The original Angels had chemistry and true friendship. 1. Kate, 2. Farrah, 3. Jaclyn. In that order.
@@renealexander2703 Jaclyn never presented herself as the star of the show when Farrah and then Kate left. Consequently, Kelly never took leadership of the Angels. That was how Cheryl/Kris became the main draw in Season 4.
@@renealexander2703 Well, I guess depending on which Angel you liked more. But judging from the interviews in later years (and what we saw onscreen), S-G and Lakso obviously gave the lead role/top part to Cheryl/Kris. It's the jiggle quotient that was the deciding factor, I think. Haha!
Mr. Spelling loved 'Angels' because it truly launched him into a new stratosphere! But...he had other favorites, too. His office had lots of pictures from '90210,' which I think he cherished because of Tori being in it. And of course, he had a full-scale replica of the Pacific Princess 'The Love Boat' on his desk. I think he really loved all the success from that show a lot!
I watched Charlie's Angels from the beginning to the very end. I cried during the last episode and thought to myself, now what do I watch during this time slot? It was very heartbreaking to watch the last episode.
I think Cheryl Ladd was the most beautiful I ever remembered her in this documentary. Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl and Shelly Hack were my 3 favorite. I wasn’t much of a Kate fan, but I will say her acting in Making Love was phenomenal,
The only reason I watched this show was beautiful, fun, cool and compassionate Sabrina Duncan! And I stopped watching when Kate Jackson left. The show tanked after her departure. And I do agree that Kate was also phenomenal in "Making Love". Oscar worthy!
@@renealexander2703 That, too. Her first 2 guest appearances were ok but after that, it quickly became non-event. They were forcing Jill into storylines that didn't quite fit in with the show. And the other cast members were practically reduced to extras whenever Farrah guest starred.
Maybe. But Cheryl in the 2nd season was a fresh addition to the show. Shelley's hiring was big news (what a catch, a supemodel!) and much celebrated going into the 4th season. (How they botched the job was another story.) Everyone was pushing for and expecting Priscilla Presley (or someone of that beauty and showbiz "pedigree") but they instead got a softporn-ish starlet. I think that was when people got tired.
All six actresses have their own qualities and attributes that made them unique. In this special (which was broadcast back in 2003) the ladies all looked great. For my money, Kate Jackson was the lynchpin of the show. She was the best actress and her character Sabrina was the only one who really came across with believability as a detective. As likeable as her costars are, they were the eye candy on the show. Jackson provided the substance the series otherwise lacked.
Well said! I share that same conclusion in my blog... The other actresses all blossomed into fine talents, but Kate was the one with real experience and craft on the series-- and it showed!
@@damianlatimer5753 As we mentioned, Kate wanted to do more movies and when she lost out on a great part in 'Making Love,' that pretty much sealed her fate that she wanted out. She really was the unsung hero of the Angels, though, since the show never really recovered from her departure...
@Mike H. I think you're referring to "Kramer vs. Kramer" because that's the movie Kate wasn't allowed to do by the producers? That must have been devastating for her. How could they do this to her? I loved "Making Love". She was wonderful in it and I heard that she missed an Oscar nomination only by one vote to Debra Winger. If that's true that would be so unfair, too! I so agree with you on Kate being the unsung hero of the Angels. She was the one who had come up with the name and the concept of the show. Without Kate Jackson there would have never been "Charlie's Angels". And yes, she was/is such a gifted actress. Those scripts may not have provided lots of variation but Kate just made it happen anyway. Her acting was very subtle in scenes where others would just have been boring. She wasn't. And she was not just smart but a lot of fun, had awesome action scenes and was so credible doing cop. And just as beautiful as the other angels. She just wasn't into the whole glamor thing which was also a reason I love her. Also in the romantic scenes she had it wasn't just kissing and looking sexy but the emotions she conveyed seemed so real. Outstanding acting skills! She was so crucial to Charlie's Angels and her departure was the end of it although many don't want to admit it.
Juaneca Harris So true! Kate Jackson was such a great actress. Sabrina was not only the smart one, but very funny at times, she did cop like none of the others and she was just as beautiful. And she had charisma!
I know what you mean...I bet they would have been even better together and would have really gelled. The show could have grown in that direction-- but alas, we'll never know what could have been!
Farrah DID make "guest appearances" in a handful of episodes in both S3 and S4 as way of resolving the dispute between her and "Spelling-Goldberg Productions". (Personally, I find both Farrah and even Kate a tad over-rated; remarkably, the series was picked up for another season even with F Fawcett-Majors not appearing in a single episode of the second season~)
The producer Mr Goldberg, of this original series was the same to make the first Charlie’s Angels movie. I think he was part of the reason it did so well compared to the newest one.
You are correct, Eliza. Rest his soul... I did the interview with Mr. Goldberg that you see in this piece at a suite at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. He was quite candid and a real pleasure to visit with! Mr. Goldberg had just come from the set of the Charlie's Angels movie- Halo. He had been working with angel Cameron Diaz that day, in fact, so in addition to producing this special, I did a separate interview with Len Goldberg about Cameron Diaz for the E! @@mikeh.9734 , Thankyou for sharing about him and your time with him as well. I wish people making movies would figure how to balance expectations. We don’t always want so different from what worked, or works.
Shelley was sooo underrated. Any idiot who bothered to watch CA all season-long could tell that Shelley could act, blended well with the beauty and style of the 2 angels before her, and had good rapport with Cheryl and Jaclyn.
Cheryl Ladd when she was in a minor role before Charlie's Angels. Quote: "...Aaron was very aware of me. And I was kind of a favorite of his...". What a stuck up attitude!
@@Kandik93 Well, I think you're very perceptive. And I'd say probably at least for a time Cheryl maybe went through a phase of being a bit 'high maintenance,' shall we say... They all did, really. But let's face it, being a Hollywood star brings out the worst in people most of the time. It's true! After all, it's just human nature when you're surrounded by that kind of territory. But, I can honestly say all the angels grew to be genuine good people, as they say in the south. And Cheryl has definitely mellowed a great deal since getting out of SoCal and into the Texas Hill Country. I think she would say she's now living her best life- and what a blessing that must be after all the hysteria and hype through the years to come out on the other side- not a drug addict or train wreck like so many others who fell hard over Tinseltown.
@@Kandik93 No, it's definitely not just you. I sense a certain arrogance in Cheryl. The way she said what you mentioned. Also in interviews she gave in recent years. I also wonder what would Cheryl's career have looked like if she hadn't done the bikini and skimpy outfit routine she did so frequently on Charlie's Angels. Yes, Spelling hired her for exactly that and she was more than willing to do it. Although she apparently once taught Spelling a lesson by wearing the tiniest bikini. Still I'm not convinced. Seriously most of Cheryl's photoshoots were her in the skimpiest outfits and she didn't seem to mind. Unlike Jaclyn, who according to someone behind the scenes, wasn't too comfortable doing swimsuit scenes yet she was always radiant when the cameras were rolling. She'd modestly cover up as soon as the director gave her the okay. Jaclyn also never did sexy photo shoots. Just very few but then she stopped. Farrah and Tanya did the sexy routine, too, but not to the extent Cheryl did. It wasn't her acring skills or singing that made her career. All three of these women are natural and stunning beautiful. I have to admit Farah didn't aged so well though. Her face looks all puff up! While the other two still looks beautiful and aging gracefully.
They were quite stunning, indeed! But poor Farah did not do so well with plastic surgery and anti-aging regimens. I'm sure her crazy lifestyle for many years contributed to a lot of premature aging as well. Her spirit was always the same, however, I can say that for sure.

I've often wondered if they later regretted how it all went down. After all, their marriage disintegrated thereafter and both had large obstacles in their lives from then on. Ironically, Lee moved to Houston about 7 years ago and comes back and forth on occasion.....the same place Farrah returned to so many times to visit and stay with her parents in The Woodlands. I wish Lee would agree to a sit-down interview to go over his very fascinating life. Time may be running out for that, though...
Another consequence of Farrah's exit is that because Jay Bernstein was relatively successful in removing Farrah from her contractual obligations, it inspired two other actresses managed by Bernstein to leave their respective shows: Lynda Carter on Wonder Woman and Suzanne Somers on Three's Company. If Farrah had never left, who knows if those other actresses would have followed in her footsteps or not?
@Flenif2247 I certainly can't argue with that, though I think perhaps all of Hollywood had a terrible culture against women in those days- ironically, while some rail against Aaron Spelling for contributing to that, he actually helped liberate women by being among the first to cast them in starring roles. Without the Angels to blaze a trail, who knows what primetime TV may have looked like for female stars?
You would have thought--after the Farrah episode--the producers would have come to the idea that each Season all the angels should have changed each year. Only Bosley should have stayed as the core of the show. Imagine a new stable of fillies each season. Actresses would A) not have gotten the Farrah big head B) not have grown Kate bitter and so the show would always be fresh. They could even have redone shows like Angels in Chains with the new cast, just so that the viewers could see the same story told differently by different actresses.
I loved Charlie’s Angels…. Every season. All the Angels were great characters.

It's one of my favorites, with lots of action characters and tons of humor, this television series has it all, it's always coming back.
There was something I found likeable about all of the ladies from the first to the last season.😀
😊
This was a fun show to watch! Lots of humor and the characters were decent respectful people. Sort of a rarity now!
AS sounds like a bully. No wonder his kids turned out the way they did.

It's hard not to love Kate in all her glory- she really brought realism to the part and gave it a classy intellectual flair at that.
Season 1 will always be my favorite, and Kate, Farrah and Jaclyn will always be my favorite Angels
It was so good but losing Farrah hurt alot. Kris pretty much made up for it but losing Kate hurt a little too. After that it was better than nothing but it never really recaptured the same magic.
Rookielove1 : I will forever love the original angels.
My Charlies Angels box set is one of my prized possessions. Anytime Im in a blah mood, that show always brings the nostalgic feels.
I picked up the Blu Ray box set. Seeing it in much better resolution, makes the show even better.

"The Rookies" (1972-76) was the very first Spelling/Goldberg Production, before "Starsky & Hutch" and "Charlie's Angels."
Charlie's Angels lost a lot when they both lost Farrah and Kate.
Farrah's departure was not good, but Cheryl did a great job replacing her. IMO, Kate (my fav) was truly the glue that held the show together. The show was never same after Kate left.
@@JP5466 100% agree
I loved chris
They lost everything when they hired Tanya. She was so unlike all the others who came before her. Not pretty, not glamorous, and her character was not credible as a detective. Core viewers of the show realized Shelley was actually good when they saw how horrible Tanya was in the show. She was basically ignored by the press and rejected by the show's fans. And that was how the show met sudden death.
I loved chyrel Ladd
Maybe they just wanted them to do the job they were contracted to do…
@@Justintime619part of an actors job, especially when you coined the concept & name of the show (as Kate did) is to portray their character to the best of their ability.
I'd love to climb into that time machine, too! The fashion, the music, the lifestyles- the 70s had it going on!
when Cheryl Ladd came on in season 2. it became the Kris Monroe show she saved that show!! they should have had Jaclyn smith step up more after Kate left, and poor shelly hack didn't even have a chance

Agreed! Don't know why they didn't step up Jaclyn Smith's role, since she was the only original angle left. Shelly Hack didn't have a chance.
@63Retro63 in one scene, Cheryl hugged Kate and it looked so awkward.
In loving memory of beautiful Farrah Fawcett! And Michael Jackson, who died the same day.
Both icons of the 1970s....so ironic we lost them both on that shocking day.
May they both rest in peace. I love them both so much!

What does Farrah Fawcet and Michael Jackson have in common? Answer: Nothing. He was a professional singer most remembered by singing with his four brother while Farrah Fawcet was a beautiful and successful actress.

@@mikeh.9734 Do you do other TV Shows besides Charlie's Angels?
@@tonyarceneaux286 Hi Tony, I've done TV all my life! As for TV Tales, unfortunately, we ended the series after 'Saved by the Bell.' I was working on 'One Day At A Time' before the Angels, but actress Bonnie Franklin did not cooperate with us enough in the end to make the episode work. At the same time, E! moved in an entirely different programming direction with reality TV. So, it was the end of the E! True Hollywood Story and all the other shows that originally built E! Entertainment into such a great network in the 90s, not so much anymore, unfortunately.
LONG LIVE CHARLIE'S ANGELS...
Real Angels don't have a sex, Demons have both sexes so I think our sweet Bosley deserves to be included as an Angel. He was a heavenly Soul. 😇
Lori Miller | Spoiler for the new film.
He’s literally the villain in it.
This was neat to watch. Thank you for your time and work. I wish there other TV Tales.
It's a shame that all the angels didn't get to finally meet Charlie in person. Rest In Peace Farrah, David & Tonya 🕊️

I know what you're getting at, Don... and interestingly, for those connoisseurs of classic 70s shows, there was actually another female character from a popular PI series who also drove what Sabrina did... those little autos really got around back then! lol
Charlie,s Angels was a cool show still is
I really liked Season Four, it was classy and original to Season One.
Season 4 is my favorite because it’s the only one in which I love all three angels (not a huge fan of Kate or Tanya). And season 1 is my second favorite.
I liked Season 3 maybe the best. You still had Farrah guest starring in some episodes.
Shelley Hack was definitely misused and underused. I wish she had been brought back for Season 5.
@@daltonbelflower7331 Me too, I liked her
My favorite seasons are:
Season 1 (the original Angels of course)
Season 2
Season 3
Never watched s 4 and 5 because my favorite Angel Sabrina Duncan was not in it. And all the s4 glamour was no longer the cool 70s Charlie’s Angels. The magic was gone. That said the glamourous s4 Angels would have been perfect for a show like Dynasty!
I don't think anybody knew how big David Doyle was to the show. And he was more then just comic relief on the show
David Doyle was so perfect as Bosley- no one else could have pulled off that character quite the same way. He really was masterful in creating the character!
He was great as bosley.that voice of his.
Tanya just didn't fit. I can't say why, it's more of a feeling. She wasn't the same type of woman.
Shelley Hack to me is still very underrated. I really liked her and Season 4 is my favourite season of the show.
Loved it in 1976 and love it now
Farrah would have stayed on the show if she wasn't married to Majors. It had nothing to do with wanting to do movies
I agree, I believe Lee Majors had a lot to do with Farrah leaving, mainly because she became a bigger star than him.
I always thought his big star quality was getting jealous of all her publicity. Poor Farrah became a phenomenal actress and she was not even with Lee by then. The Burning Bed was fantastic. May she RIP.
@bou path I totally agree
I; agree totally---it had nothing to do with movies.
Chris S... is right.
Lee, was too domineering& old fashioned.
Nothing wrong with being a housewife; but Farrah did not want that.
I, liked Farrah; but she got what she deserved when she latched on to
#Ryan because she made herself loo
worse than cheap by being with him some 25 yes. or so& never married& Lee never
slapped her around like Ryan did.
ADORABLE
More than 5,000 women were considered for angels wings. And none of them could hold a candle to the amazing Kate Jackson!
You are 100% right, Claudia! Kate was amazing and gorgeous and clearly the best. By far!
As for the twat in this thread: Coog, how dare you insult a woman! Actually two women!!!
Wrong Mr. Lakso! The magic was gone when Kate Jackson left!
I love Charlie's Angels, I hope it comes back again. I've been rewatching season 3/4 for free on youtube and it brings back so many memories.

Kate Jackson is a terrific actress I agree with you about Babyboom.
It was a shame how her death was reported. It almost became a joke.
She passed from a urinary tract infection that went septic at 65 years old at Cedars-sinai Medical, LA.
Viewing figures were amazing back then. so many shows 20-30million. Nowadays shows can stay on air for several seasons with less than a million.
And to be honest most of the ones lasting several seasons these days are not very good. The few quality shows made in this era get canned like that.
Kelly was the prettiest
Kate was as beautiful but in her own fascinating way. Very charismatic!! And that voice!

Mike not only do I wish TV Tales produced more episodes in its prime, but I wish E! still produced the show now! Great job on this doc series!
Such is life in Hollywood...never quite what it seems! lol
Beautiful strokes to different strokes
Kate Jackson was and will always be Angel #1, the woman who created it, the best actress, the Angel they were never able to replace. She made the show. KATE WAS THE BEST ANGEL. Farrah was the phenom, Jaclyn was third banana which suited her well. She was never able to be the leader or the phenom. The original Angels had chemistry and true friendship. 1. Kate, 2. Farrah, 3. Jaclyn. In that order.
Actually, I thought Jaclyn was great as the leader and she was phenom.
@@renealexander2703 Jaclyn never presented herself as the star of the show when Farrah and then Kate left. Consequently, Kelly never took leadership of the Angels. That was how Cheryl/Kris became the main draw in Season 4.
@@filomango69 , oh. Well, I actually viewed Kelly/Jaclyn as the leader, not Kris.

Haha!
I have an excellent collection of every single episode of "Charlie's Angels" since it aired. When I am confined to staying at home during this quarentine I just pull out the CD and put it into the computer or I can Google the episode that I want to see and that's it.

This show was a big part of Aaron Spelling TV Shows in the 1980s.
People got tired of the revolving door of new Angels
Robert Whitaker, people got tired of Farrah guest appearances.
I JUST GOT MY CHARLIE’S ANGELS DVD SET A WEEK AGO

Beautiful thank you tv & film
Kate, Farrah, Jackie, Cheryl, Shelley and Tanya were far from girls. They were women. 😊 Thank you so much for getting the facts correct.
I WAS IN LOVE WITH ALL THE ANGEL'S😄. SPECIALLY WITH SHELLEY AND TANYA😍
They are both so friendly, and Tanya is real hoot! An irresistible gal, for sure!
@george vila As Wayne and Garth would say, I was not aware of that! lol Cool info!
After Kate Jackson left, the show went downhill from there. She was the glue that held the show together.
Juaneca Harris So true! Kate Jackson was such a great actress. Sabrina was not only the smart one, but very funny at times, she did cop like none of the others and she was just as beautiful. And she had charisma!
OMG! Yes, she didn't have to wear skimpy outfits to look beautiful. Natural beauty.
@Juaneca Harris So true! Love Kate!
@Rookielove1 1:08:08 .........ANSWER Kate
@george vila they were trying to save it...didnt work
I wish Farrah had stayed a Season 2 with Sabrina, Kelly and Jill will always be something I fantasise about.
I know what you mean...I bet they would have been even better together and would have really gelled. The show could have grown in that direction-- but alas, we'll never know what could have been!
@@mikeh.9734 Definitely it's so sad :(
@Rookielove1 WHAT whattt team👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥👥 FARRAH all the way ☝💥😁
@Rookielove1 Yes, they were great together. True Girl Power in action!
Shelley Hack is great.
Sunday nite really killed that show.
Very true!
What a show
Kelly, Tiffany and Julie was my favorites
Special at the time: E! Celebrity Profile: Cameron Diaz. A little bonus insider info just for you! lol
@@mikeh.9734 , Thankyou for sharing about him and your time with him as well. I wish people making movies would figure how to balance expectations. We don’t always want so different from what worked, or works.
@@elizabritton4039 Ain't that the truth! lol
The movie was awful and nothing like the real angels.
Cheryl Ladd!!!
Favorite Angel
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!
THANK U SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING IT!!!! 😀
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
if i remember right i think it was also Vegas' final season in the 1980-1981 season
Wasn’t Kate Jackson on The Rookies?
Yes!
Yes, she was. She was a nurse and Mike Danko's wife.
Yes her name in the show was Jill Danko 😊😊😊
Season 4 was underrated
I agree. I love Season 4.
Shelley was sooo underrated. Any idiot who bothered to watch CA all season-long could tell that Shelley could act, blended well with the beauty and style of the 2 angels before her, and had good rapport with Cheryl and Jaclyn.
These r all beautiful ladies. R.I.P Farrah Fawcett Tonya Roberts n also David Doyle
Amen, Alfonso!
FANTASTIC
Enjoyed that movie Cheryl Ladd co starred with Ken Whal in called Purple Hearts awesome movie!!!
Cheryl has always been an awesome talent! And quite beautiful, to boot!
Cheryl Ladd when she was in a minor role before Charlie's Angels. Quote: "...Aaron was very aware of me. And I was kind of a favorite of his...". What a stuck up attitude!
When you look at Cheryl in that bikini from the first Hawaii episode... I think Cheryl was the favorite of A LOT of folks, not just in Hollywood!
@@mikeh.9734 A blonde in a bikini can be very powerful. She doesn't come across very warm or humble to me, though. But that's probably just me...
If Cheryl had refused to be a sex kitten, she would have had no career!
@@dar76sh59 Oh, both Cheryl and Tanya did the centerfold-type photoshoots. Only difference was Cheryl tried not to talk too much and brag about the obvious but Tanya announced to the whole world that she was happy to be jiggling and stripping.
Farrah fawcett majors. 😀 simply wonderfull actress 👏 👏 👏 "that hair that smile ,that sparkle "😇😇😇
And a talented, underrated artist, too!
@@mikeh.9734 i wholeheartedly agree❗ EXTREMITIES , THE APOSTEL,POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL, SO MANY MOVIES BUT YOU KNOW I ESPECIALLY ENJOYED SUNBURN 1979 A COMEDY MYSTERY WITH CHARLES GRODEN 👏 👏 👏 👏
@@thomashardcastle5912 Yes, for sure! And even in Logan's Run she was quite captivating.....captured in her prime, she lit up the big screen in her closeups in that movie!

Unfortunately for Tanya, season 5 was the last season. Jaclyn and Cheryl seemed to like Tanya a lot.
Yes, Tanya was very likeable. She was down to earth and real, and that gave her a natural likeability even the other Angels couldn't resist.
RIP! Tanya Roberts
Wow I never knew any of this. So glad I stumbled on this documentary
We're glad you did, too, Kyndall!
FARRAH was the sexiest but kate gave the show substance
They did Shelley so wrong. SMH
Shelley could not act.
@@stacyharper7783 she looked fantastic in all the still shots / publicity photos - but when it came to motion - yup - wooden - she couldn't act
not realky this is showbiz. If you dont fit or bring in viewers you are out. Its showBUSINESS. Not charity.
@@en6278 Bringing in viewers is not that just the actresses' responsibility. The writers have to come up with good stories and credible characters. The declining ratings happened even with Jaclyn and Cheryl around. Of course there are also people like Tanya who thought stripping was all it took to win a big audience. We proved her and S-G wrong.
@@podiumguy100 Another avid tabloid reader. Maybe you watched one show where Shelley was given a token scene, and decided you can jiggle better??? 😄😄😄
So fun !

The way Farrah quit the show nd Lee Majors was such a bad karma.......
Yes, I think so as well. Lee was a male chauvinist, but compared to Ryan O' Neal, he was a prince. Too bad Majors let his male ego get in the way.
