I went in 1994 when Inside Out came out....it blew me away...I was fan since 88...but I actually loved Dream Theater...but that concert in St. Louis...just killed it...been a Fates fan ever since that concert
The main reason this album didn't get very high ratings wasn't because it was bad in and of itself. It just sounded too much like its predecessor "Parallels" and it was very obvious Fates tried too much to make it into the mainstream by writing more streamlined catchy songs. "Parallels" had a couple of them like "Point Of View" and "Eye to Eye" and they got played on mainstream radio and MTV. So the boys figured why not make a whole album of those. None of the critics really hated the album. They were just disappointed, since every Fates Warning album before that brought something new to the table.
Yeah mate, Mark Zonder really plays in a league apart - IMO he's one of the very the best rock/metal drummers ever, he really knew how to make drums sound superb. Mark's absence unfortunately is quite evident, no other way. this man had tremendous level.
Nick is no slouch either, but yeah, Mark could not only play it, but he composed the complex rhythms that make this such a great song. Had him play on a couple of our songs, and it was a real eye opener when he sent us the files. We had to go back to the drawing board... now we were playing with a pro. ua-cam.com/video/0yU7OHLKs7Q/v-deo.html

The lack of Zonder on this is very apparent...Zonder's drum parts for this on the album are some of the best and most creative in all of rock....
