  • Many places from the past are now gone, but not all are forgotten and this holds true for a place called Rocky Glen Amusement Park. This place lasted the better part of a century and has changed numerous times over the decades. Although it's been gone for almost 40yrs, there's still signs of its past existence. Here in 2023 we're gonna take a look at how nature has reclaimed this former park and show you what is still left to see today.

    Wow, thank you for the trip, down memory lane. As a child, in the late 70s, this was the place to go. So many great memories. The wild west town, was amazing, the jail, the actual shoot outs, with the sheriff, and outlaws, the can can girls, dancing in the saloon. Remember the slanted house. Sadly missed.

      @@JPVideos81 growing up close to Bertrand Island Amusement Park in Lake Hopatcong, NJ. I believe it opened in 1910 and was opened until around 1983. Wonderful history of this park! My favorite photo was the Swiss cottage. Loved the stonework and architecture of it. Really nice that you had historical photos to help illustrate your story. You did an awesome job of sharing the history of the location and adding your own personal memories & experiences, like swimming & snorkeling. Loved the stone couches, too! Very nostalgic & loved it! I graduated HS in 88. I saw Starship in concert there in maybe 86 or 87, after the park had closed. Their big song on the charts for that concert, was a fantastic guilty pleasure, We Built This City, which a lot of people hate but I unapologetically love. Anyway, yeah, even though the park had closed, they were still using the pavillion right on the lake for the occasional concert. It was a great park. It was still pretty fun even in its last year when it was pretty rundown. And the wooden rollercoaster there was the first decent one I went on as a kid in the 70s. It was great in the 70s. But the heyday of the park was probably the 50s and 60s. Before my time, but every weekend there were huge concerts there of all the top performers. It is so sad that virtually nothing is left, including most of the beautiful lake.

    This is another part of my childhood that is gone. So much of it is gone because so much of it, like this park, was old by the time I experienced it. I rode that last coaster 27 times in one visit once. It was a rainy day so the lines must have been short. My other favorite thing at Rocky Glen was the crooked house - such a simple concept yet it never failed to amuse me.

    Cool video. I was wondering if this had been a traction company park. Then when you talked about the trolley bringing people in,I realized it must have been. I have had an interest in the old traction company parks since I learned that the amusement park that had stood where I went to middle school was one. We had two that were still running when I was a kid that I had seen or been to. One was knocked down and turned into a mall. The other was still running the last I knew. The old rides were family friendly and the parks were always so nice. The one you showed looked awesome. The lake front features you described and the stone work, including the couches, made it sound like a great place. It's sad that so many of the parks have fallen victim to developers . Thanks for taking us along on this awesome adventure.

    The e-bike: Caution! A lot of fires are caused by e-bike batteries. Jay, you DO NOT want that battery rattling around. I'd suggest modifying the enclosure to keep it safe and snug, while not insulating it, so that heat doesn't build up. Some kind of cord or band, or a more permanent fix. The layers in those batteries are pretty thin, and there are crystals within that, with friction, can eventually cause the battery to short out in a runaway chemical reaction, AKA, big hot fire.

    • @JPVideos81
      @JPVideos81  9 місяців тому +1

      A good velcro strap will easily solve the problem. Being an off road style bike, the battery is gonna move and bounce regardless though.

    Actually Mighty lighning was demolished Dec 6 1994, I was there when they pulled down the lift hill. The reason it was demolished is someone set it on fire about 2-3 weeks prior to demo, and sadly the coaster was sold to Stricker's grove who were supposed to come in a dismantle it, but they never did and the rot was too much so they built a mirror replica

    Thanks for the video. I only got to the park a few times before it closed down. My job for the state of Pennsylvania had me working in this area. I got to see this park and Angela park just before they both closed. This was the larger park and the roller coaster was great. I guess it died like many of the older regional parks due to the cost to operate them and not being able to keep adding new rides to keep people coming back. This was also a time when the area was still undergoing relatively depressed times so there were less young families with extra funds to enjoy a day at a local amusement park. At least Kenobles survived and became a major park that today serves northeast as well as central Pennsylvania areas.

    How’d you get in there? The whole place has been posted for quite some time now. There used to be a lot of people hanging out in that place, but now no one really goes in there.

      Making it into a park for fishing, picnicking and hiking with history plaques around the grounds would be ideal.

    Hey JP, I may have a DVD that I bought from eBay several years ago. I would like to send you a pic of it if I can find it so you could tell me if it's the same park. If I can find it, how would I go about sending you a picture?

      You do know you can skip through on youtube and you're complaining about something you get to watch for free 😅
