Little Hill Homestead
Homesteading with the Zimmermans makes egg noodles by hand. It looked so easy, I'm tempted to try it.
I love them! I’ll have to check out that video. We did some hand cut noodles and I was good until I had to hand cut them all. My patience is small when it comes to that type of stuff.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa if I remember correctly, she used a pizza cutter. I could be wrong though, it's been awhile since I've seen that video.
@@asc3998she also gets her kids involved. She has the patience of Job!
@@lg6041 I agree 100%
You can use the black cocoa to make homemade Oreos. Totally yum!
Have never been to an Amish store!! But I definitely would if there was one around here
Lehman's is a fun place to go, but it is becoming a tourist trap. Know your prices, as some items are ridiculously expensive!
Agree! It use to be better. I buy a few things there but many I end up getting online elsewhere.
I live about 47 minutes to two amish stores and bakeries..... I fee so blessed. We go knce a week because the drive is beautiful and its a great resource!!!
That is awesome and I’m totally jealous. 🤪
@@lisahildebrandt3033 that's wonderful. In my area where about 45 minutes away from a bunch of fresh produce stands. Anything that I don't grow myself, I can get nice and fresh there.
There are different perks depending on where you live, but I also would love to live near an Amish store.
In Lancaster, PA omg sooooo many places and the best food at Shady Maple
Would love to have an Amish store around here, but none around.
Lehman's is one of the best. 😊
I’m in Central Virginia…..looking for a close Amish market to us…..we have a lot of Mennonite markets….I envy you getting to go to the Amish markets!!! LOVE your videos! You crack me up!!!❤ ❤❤
I have heard that the Mennonite stores are very similar to the Amish stores. I’m hoping to hit a Mennonite one soon to compare.
There is a small Amish market in Blue Ridge. I’m in jasper and we go now and then love it.
Do you happen to have the name of it? Can you believe we’ve been in Georgia for 11 years and never been that way? We will have to change it and check that out!
I have seen Acre Homestead use the dark cocoa powder to make oreo cookies.
Lehmans is a great place to visit but the prices are high. I love the washcloths I always buy them to stock up my stash.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I agree on the prices.
Great price on the flour! Walmart sells King Arthur for about $6 for 5#.
Sam's has 10 lbs for $8. I break up the bag into mason jars and vacuum seal them for freshness.
I have an Amish community about 40 mins from my house. I only buy my spices from there. Clear gel is a must for us and they have it at a great price. Cook type for canning and I add instant to my cakes and they are super moist. We love popcorn and I just need to try some. They have so many different kinds it kinda overwhelmed me so I didn’t get any. Need to research what the best kinds are for popping and go get some. My kids love the wall of candy, nuts, and trail mixes.
We love the tri color or mushroom popcorn. The mushroom is just the shape.
I enjoy going to Sugar Creek area in Ohio. They have a popcorn seasoning that is wonderful. Very hard to find in most places.
We will be going to Ohio in the fall so I’ll be looking up sugar creek!
There is some Amish markets in North Georgia. I have not visited so I don’t know the prices. There is a Mennonite Market and Restaurant in Montezuma Georgia called Yoders that we love to go to.
I just heard about Yoders from a friend. We have it on our list to visit!!!!
You can usually ask about sleeves of lids. They get the lids that way and divide them up.
You truly scored on the spices! Wow. We’ve recently learned of a Bishop’s Store (LDS) in the Temecula/Menefee area but haven’t been there yet. Since you’re coming our way, I’ll try to get up there to check it out and let you know.
We lived in Lake Elsinore for a few years. You’ll have to let me know if it is worth the drive down. I know they are known for #10 cans of stuff.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa. Ok. Will do. Law Elsinore use yo be such an amazing place in the 40s and 50s. Our family and Aunt/Uncle and their kids use to camp there on the weekends - 3 days of tent camping and water skiing. So fun! Thanks for trip down memory lane, I haven’t thought of that in years, decades actually. Lol
I've used For Jars lids ever since I started to learn how to can 2 years ago. They have a great track record and I've never had one fail.
Last year I bought an Oster roaster oven and I made 12 quarts of roasted turkey bone broth for future soup. It will help us get through the winter. I add dehydrated vegetables that I buy at Aldi and dehydrate. Along with either dehydrated potatoes or Späzle.
We just bought a Harvest Right Freeze Dryer and I'm planning on using it to freeze dry a lot of vegetables, broth and meat to supplement our food storage.
A freeze dryer would be a dream for us. We just don’t have the funds to do that but I would love to hear what you do with it! I hope it’s amazing. We make chicken broth but I like to do it in fall so I can cook it outside. You know we love Aldi!
So jealous of your haul ❤
I love the black cocoa powder! If you like dark chocolate you'll love it - fun tip - you can make homemade Oreo's with it! YUM!
Holmes, Wayne, and Tuscarawas counties in Ohio, houses a large area of Amish stores, crafts, bulk foods, several cheese factories. Pearl Valley makes an Onion Cheese that is so yummy.
I’m taking notes for our next trip!
Forward lidds great
The Amish store I go to has the absolute best brown sugar. I buy lots of baking ingredients there. In the fall they have very inexpensive boxes of apples for sale.
We have several Menonite bulk food stores in Northern Mo. There is a really nice one on the southern border of Iowa, in Cantril, Iowa...The Dutchman Store. They have an online site and sell sleeves of canning lids. They have outgrown their current store front and are getting ready to move into their newly built building which looks to be the size of a Wal-Mart superstore.
Wow! I’ll be doing a road trip to Minnesota and I’ll be sure to add that as a stop.
Use black cocoa all the time. I just substitute black for regular cocoa in any recipe. But my favorite use is to make homemade oreos.
I have an Amish market less then a mile from my house...it's not as cheap as you found! But it's awesome!! I live in Garnett, Kansas .
I swear I’m going to move closer to one. They are fun! Oh and dangerous on the wallet.
Grabill Country Sales at Grabill, IN is a great place to shop. LOTS of cheese too. My late friend and I used to shop there all the time (and yes, he inyroduced it to me) If I didnt watch another video here, I wouldnt of thought to look up Amish marketplaces....so here is a newbie to me...Nolts Marketplace at Ft Wayne, IN. Web pics look very vry promising to shop at (n sooo going this weekend to check it out). Highly appreciated this video and last one I watched too. May your day always be blessed and see ya on your next video
Thanks for sharing!!
That little knife you got, I could not see real good, but I think I have one like it. If it is that one, it is one of the most handy knives I have in my kitchen. I use mine all the time everyday. I have looked everywhere for one in my area and cannot find them.
It’s tiny! I’ll look to see if I can find a name or anything but they are on the register at Lehman’s so you maybe can call and ask.
The one near us has bulk candy. I love the hard candy. They have flavors such as cloves along with the usual cherry and lemon.
Oh wow!
Thank you for sharing your Amish haul. Wow what awesome prices. I would love to have an Amish store near me....Sherri-Payette Idaho
Those are my favorite dish cloths. I love to get their spices too.
So good right?!?!
The full canning lids are great for water bath canning pickles.
Love this idea!
I live in KS and we are planning a trip to Jamesport, MO sometime this summer, went there a long time ago and need to go again good bargin before, waiting for fresh produce to come in.
I’d love to hit one during produce season.
Oreos with the dark cocoa!😊
Black cocoa powder-think Oreo cookies.
I love black cocoa. I am a professional cake artist and use it in part with regular coca for my chocolate fudge cake, but it is a strong acidic chocolate so you don’t need much. For a half cup of cocoa you just sub 2 tbls with black cocoa
I live in Ohio, and if I want to stock up,and no the particular ones is out of cell phone service. I write a list of possible things to buy and the cheapest prices. That way when I am looking at flour , sugar , etc. I know whether I am getting a good deal.
That's a great idea!
The black cocoa powder is what they make oreos out of
Really?!!!
Yes check out acre homestead she is amazing
Lovely haul. I havent seen any Amish products before. Do you make your own corn meal? Thanks for sharing your haul and your recipes. Habe a great day 💜
Yes I do! I have a grain mill and grind popcorn. I’ll do a video soon!
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa that is so awesome! Looking forward to seeing the video! Have a great day 💜
Do,you buy wheat berries to grind?
@@Linda-fb4vo I do. I get most from Azure, Winco and a few from the Amish store.
if you come up with recipe for Amish hand pie dough i want it lol by the way we have a few in Maine. the one closest to me is jut kinda starting so its the cooked goods and canning they have, but thus the pies lol
I’m totally going to figure them out and will post them when I do.
@@LittleHillHomesteadGa yay, the only thing i could find on it was, they put sour cream in like a regular pie crust haven't dared go that far lol.
You live in Main how is the Lobster Feast? I love Lobster! I live in Ohio. Price for Lobster high here.
I'm so jealous! I'm in Alberta, Canada and we don't have any Amish markets...I've watched so many hauls from them and I'm soooo wanting to see one some day.
Maybe one day! I felt just like you. I was lucky to have finally gone to one
Middlebury Indiana store call E&S Amish store
On my list. Thanks!
Well what are those
Were they dish towls or dis h cloths
Dish clothes. They are like the size of a washcloth.
Second lol
Great Video. Im like you, always wanted to visit an Amish supply store. PURE canning jars (China made) and lids is a BIG FAT NO!! Almost all of my jars never sealed, lids rusted, bands did not screw on correctly and the jars etched severely. Many of us used them during C()vid due to supply shortages. What a mistake that was. All my hard work and food had to be eaten right away. Many of us even had trouble with Ball lids/jars during this time. It was rumored that Ball was sourcing from many different companies in China too.
Near the middle to end of C()vid a company called 'ForJars' popped up on the radar to save us. Yes I really mean 'save us'. They began to manufacture superior lids/bands. The bands are very resistant to rust and not easily affected by vinegar in the canning pot water. All of us in the canning/preserving world LOVE their products. The prices are comparable and fair. Most folks never have any canning seal fails. Almost immediately they began to broadened their product line due to customer requests. They just launched a vacuum sealer with a prob that allows easy vacuum sealing of Mylar bags. No Im not a sponsor for them but I do love my fellow preppers/canners and want to tell everyone of superior products. Check them out.
I have used their lids before and loved them. Ball use to be owned by another company but they sold out to Jarden which is why they stink now. I’ve had decent luck with them still but I do like Golden Harvest as well. I’m going to order some from Azure to see what the quality is for theirs.
I switched to ForJars lids and I have no fails now. I had some Pur lids I bought during 2020 and I only use those for my dry goods I store in jars.
