    You hit a lot of good points. I've had mine since 2/22 and I keep it covered outside. It still looks good. I do have some boat rash from the ramps. So I put on a Berley Pro protector for front and back. Other than that trying to describe to folks how stable the Unlimited is doesn't do it any justice. You have to experience it to say wow this thing can handle rough water like a champ. Nucanoe will replace your parts for free also. Great video just subbed.

      I appreciate the support for sure. I will keep updates on the Nucanoe. Yes customer service is good and it’s a simple boat. You can go crazy or keep it simple like everything else. Yes it is stable even with the higher elevated seat. I have the Pro Angler as well and they are both good. I feel the same on both but maybe the Nucanoe a tad more. I would have to take them out together at same time and jump back and forth. Maybe I will do a video on that one day. But it still comes down to the individual person. Once again thank you.

      @@balam8743 good idea. Duke is making at Ketch. Any plastic will do same thing. Aluminum at 1/4 inch will not warp. I will maybe change one day or do aluminum plate myself one day if I get board. It doesn’t let that much water in.

    Great review, Ryan. I just got my Unlimited with an NK 300. Plan to use it in saltwater a few times a year, so will be extra careful to clean with soap and water. Do you use the Texas trailer with your Unlimited and, if so, do you launch off the trailer or use the Boondocks to go from trailer to saltwater? Also, have you gotten the aluminum plates to replace the plastic ones? I had trouble sealing one of my side plates after routing my transducer wiring through it and so would like to replace with aluminum.
    I had purchased a16x16 Blackpack before I bought the Unlimited. Ended up mounting two lengths of angle aluminum, with two of the screw knobs each, between the main tracks. My Blackpack sits on and is attached to them with quick connect straps so I can move it forward or backward to the end of the tracks as needed. Also gives room underneath it if ever needed. Love this boat, its stability (I'm 79) and the Tarpon drain system, so thanks for your videos on it.

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  4 місяці тому +1

      Awesome. I do both depending on where I am and how busy. Sometimes I wet launch and sometimes I use the wheels. It’s so simple either way. No to aluminum plates. The water is so minimal and it’s not all the time. I just open rear hatch and in a day or so it’s evaporated anyways. It’s low on my list to replace. People have commented to heat up with heat gun to flatten out. It’s not really a big deal but will look cool when and if I do change them. I may even buy a small sheet of aluminum 1/8-1/4 inch thick. Cut them myself, sand down and install myself. Who knows. Sound like a good off season which I don’t have anymore in the south. But maybe a good video in the future. But if you reach out to Ketch they may have some or have never done before and you can be the first!!

    Can you remove the connector that's preventing the landing gear from moving forward and screw it into that hole that's a few inches forward? If the bracket doesn't align with the hole you might have to drill a hole through the bracket so it lines up.

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  23 дні тому

      There is no additional holes. Not sure what you are referring to. Even if I drilled holes and moved bracket forward that inch that is left on bracket it’s still not enough. I could make my own base plate but I needed another backpack anyways for my other kayak so it is ok. Plus I wanted to point it out because there is many that don’t or have never used tools etc so might not have capability to alter a stock item. Shrinking down 3 inches in depth for me is not a huge deal anyways as I don’t care that much back there. Most of my tackle is in my trac pacs in front of me.

    I was wondering about your side kick. Watching the video. It looks like their are 2 1/4 20 insert in front of the side kick . It looks like the same with as the mounting plate . Could you mount it there. And use your 16×16 yack pack?

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  6 місяців тому

      Even if I moved the wheels forward in the plate and drilled new holes still only gives me about an inch. I need 3 more. Now if I extended plate and made my own I could make it work but at this point I am use to the smaller black pack. No big deal. But I am sure I could weld more plate on and make it work for sure.

    First, thanks for the detailed videos on the Unlimited. I am considering this kayak as my first fishing kayak and as a senior of 68, stability is my first concern.
    What caught my attention to this kayak is being able to setup as a tandem. My GF fishes also so this is important. But I do have a concern… you pointed out (thankfully) about the actual standing width being a little narrow due to the side walls. Since I am not able to see this kayak in person, can you tell me what the actual measurement is of the standing portion on the deck? I cannot locate that on their site.
    Thanks for any reply.

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  5 місяців тому +3

      It is 21 inches between the sidewalls. If it’s your first fishing kayak you won’t really know is the difference like I do coming from Hobie. I would not steer you wrong with stability. It’s just as or even more than the Hobie. I jump on it from banks etc and there is no problem with it. I think once you have it on the water you will see.
      Like I have said in previous videos you need to try out a kayak in person to really understand its first and second stability. You can listen to people on UA-cam and other places but everyone is different.
      If you can find a dealer within 6 hours it’s still worth the drive to water test. But I can promise you it’s stabile.

    • @rjmfishtales

    I have a PA14 360 and as far as a pedal kayak I really dont think there is a better option, but for the life of me these last 2 years I keep thinking about getting a Unlimited. I keep telling myself that I just need to put a nk180 on it and call it a day. In my head though I feel like a Unlimited with a Xi3 trolling motor + a 2.5hp suzuki would do everything I want. The 2.5hp would let me travel the big lakes that I like to fish like Lake Texoma and the trolling motor would make a night and day difference in current like you find down in the salt water flats of corpus christi. Which one has more primary and secondary stability? Do you think fishing two grown men tandem is plausible with a trolling motor? It would be nice to take my brother fishing with me without having to buy a 2nd kayak for that 1 or 2 times a year he would go. If you could only have one would you advise selling my PA14 360 for the Unlimited?

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  Місяць тому +1

      First you are right about the Hobie for a pedal kayak. You can’t beat it. I still have my Hobie. Just never go on it much at all anymore.
      As far as 2 grown men with the I3. I would say depending on the weight of each of you. If you are 200 pounds or less for each of you I would say you will be ok. But on a calmer day. I feel any heavier than that might be a little much. I would also keep the fishing gear light. I never have had more than my son with me. I feel with an adult on the front you will be fine but puts the nose lower to the water. So any chop 18 inches or higher you will be taking water over the top all the time.
      It will handle the both of you but on calmer days is what I feel.
      As far as selling the Hobie that is up to you but once I was on the Nucanoe motorized I never looked back. I like it because nothing can break on the kayak. There is no moving parts.
      This is my opinion about selling the Hobie for Nucanoe. I would just because being motorized is better for my knees. I also like being motorized better. It’s a hell of a lot faster and energy wise it helps staying out all day because you are not pedaling. But I still have the Hobie as well. If you can’t afford both, or still want the pedal feature I would motorize the Hobie. I can’t make this decision for you but I would sell the Hobie myself.

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  3 дні тому +1

      I never had luck with Old Town. I am Nucanoe all the way because it’s so easy to modify yourself with all the track and accessories from Nucanoe and other brands. The seat is really comfortable and swivels. Once again seat can be positioned anywhere on the track. Not locked into one location. I also was just out Saturday in 3 foot swells and felt very safe and comfortable. The last Old Town I owned. The initial stability was not good and didn’t feel comfortable. @stevebrindle9742 behind the plates is a molded hull. There is no holes to begin with under plate. There is a hatch in the back but that is sealed as well. To answer your question NO. Love the clean setup! I previously owned a Hobie outback for years and sold it last year with the plan to upgrade. The Nucanoe Unlimited is at the top of my list. I love the open deck layout, the high swivel seat and the ease of adding a front or rear motor. As a previous Hobie owner would you highly recommend this kayak. I'm only asking because the closest dealer to me where I can demo one is 5 hours from me. Also the wiring plates warping bugs me and I've looked for aftermarket replacements and you mentioned having Ketch make some. I would love to hear if you ever looked into that because I also thought of contacting Ketch about that but wasn't sure who to reach out to. Thanks great videos!
