And right now, you probably are much better, so I recommend learning the solo piece "Spanish Dances" and "Parody". I would tell you the composers, but i forgot sorry.
Guys, this was posted 8 years ago. I think she's moved on past Yellow After The Rain lol I may be mistaken, but I think the time for critique on this has long since passed lol
"I had negative 50 seconds to learn it and get it perfect or I'd fail music school and I didn't in negative 10 seconds perfect so I'm the best and I feel better about me." I can't believe some of the comments on this piece. You did great. I have to learn this for an audition and have no clue where to start. So I turned to this video.
Very nice!! I'm packing up my marimba, and lost the sheet music to this piece years ago so thought I'd look this up, I remember when I was learning this piece back in high school. Still love the sound of the marimba just don't have time to use it being away at college. Hopefully the local high school can use it rather than it sitting in my basement. Excellent job!
Wow! That was amazing!!! I just started learning Four mallets and I actually played this for my first Jury. I got a standing ovation, but then I'm the only mallet percussionist at my college and most people are amazed with two mallet work. This blew me out of the water!!! Your accuracy and clarity was awesome! MAJOR Kudos! Keep up the great work!!!
Yall realize this was after only two months of learning the piece right? This piece was played pretty dang well for the timeframe. Yeah, i'm sure many people could play better than that, but that is because they are more experienced. For someone to play a piece that well like i said in only 2 months is still impressive. Plus she wasn't practicing it 24/7 either
it sounded nice. i've heard it played before, but then again it was by a senior who spent most of his time on the marimba for hours at a time. it sounds good.
haha hit enter too soon.... Your technical skill is astounding - GREAT one-hand rolls! I was very impressed, you played the ink right up until the (INTENSELY DIFFICULT!) end :) A job well done! Truly beautiful work.
Great job!!!! That was also my first four mallet piece. I am fifteen years old and I am also in the pit in my marching band. I am now on my second piece ( Rain dance) and will be continuing on my journey of marimbas!!! haha. seriously though keep working at it! - Drew
that piece is genius!.. the thuth is that not every percussionist can play it!... and you... with a few months, you do it so well that other persons I met... even my teacher of percussion... congratulations... sorry for the bad english... un abrazo desde Venezuela...
This might be one of my favorite four mallet pieces ever! My friend did this last year as a solo, and he's also doing Virginia Tate. Great job playing!
It is great!!!! i'm learning how to plat this piece and it's harder than i thought...... Also, i can't get over the fact that there is like 14 keyboard instruments all around. It's so cool lol
I've watched lots of UA-cam clips of this piece, and this is by far my favourite. I think lots of people take this far too fast. Trying to get to grips with it myself, but after 10 minutes my fingers hurt...
Wow! This is really good for your first four mallet piece. I just started learning four mallets this year, and my stuff isn't that clean yet. You're doing great! You've even inspired me to practice more. :) Good blessings on future pieces!
Oh my God!! You should definitely take out the part that says it's not perfect. I am a sophomore in college and that was also my first four mallet piece and you definitely did WAY better than I did at my recital. Amazing job. Mitch would be proud.
I would absolutely love to get the chance to play this piece again. 1:20 to about 2:06 took me FOREVER to get right. That part hurt my fingers a lot. I got a 1 on it at Solo and Ensemble when I played it my 8th grade year. ((: You played Wonderfully!
very nice performance! I'm a total Pit Nerd! My main advice for you right now is to watch your third mallet during the 1,3,2,4 chord section. I'm learning this right now with you! Good luck :D
oh my gosh!! thats awesome!!! i learned this i think in 7th or 8th grade...bu ti didnt i even learn the whole thing.... you did really good!!!! :D i love girl Percussionists like myself!!
===OOOO... you play de marimba absolutly amazing!!... you're pretty and a good percusionist... is too much!!... jajaja.. un saludo desde Venezuela...=) I love this piece... the marimba is the BEST!...
Good job I'm playing this too. Just got it two weeks ago and I got down lik u do. I suprise myself how fast I grasped to this. I'll b sure to post a video so u all can see me play it too. O yeh and I'm black
@rosskay you can get it from steveweissmusic I ordered mine off of there, and it just came in today. It's only about seven dollars, but the shipping is almost as much as the music is.
My friends playing this and she's worked on it for 2 years and only has the tempo up to 86 so I told her it's fine bc she's got like all but one page memorized and she can work it up. you see, last year she played The Tempest and rocked it so I have total confidence in her and know she will make state like last year.
this is awsome im a freshman in highschool and this is the first piece on 4 mallets ive played. im on the permintation part after the run and i learned it in less than 4 hours of practice. im hoping by the time im in college ill be able to play mutch harder things than this. to what i heard you only missed a few notes and need to work on balance of all the mallets i hear the 1st mallet sticking out in parts other than that great job!
I thought about doing that as a solo my senior year, but I figured out it was SIXTEEN pages long! D: eff that haha, i might do Rain Dance, that one sounds cool :D
HER FIRST 4 MALLET PIECE ! WTF ! THAT WAS AMAZING ! your technique is simply outstanding ! and note accuracy was extreamly high aswell ! im jelous ! can u please try teardrops by mitchel peters ! Youd sound lovely playing that too ! its only 3 mallets to but there is similair 4 mallet versions of it !
@spongetot22 Yeah. Don't play this for solo and ensemble. So many people play this thinking they'll be a classy percussionist and play a 4-mallet solo! I recommend the Musser etudes.
really good job just 2 suggestions play on very ends of the keys or right b4 the resonator but not on the nodes and make sure your thumbs are facing the ceilling
im trying to learn this song but its really hard mostly because i dont have the music nd because im baritone player its been two months already and i only know the begining you sound good
nice job on this piece. and to put it bluntly, this is a piece that is written for beginner-intermediate 4 mallet players. Many students do not really get into 4 mallet playing until college anyway. So, depending on your particular strengths, this piece cold be played equally well by either a middle schooler or an undergrad.
This is very good! I am terrible on the marimba.. I am trying to play Rain Dance and I keep hitting wrong notes - aka I can't keep the four mallets steady. :( It sucks when I have nothing to practice on.. :/
When I got this solo like some weeks ago I was like "oh pretty simple and awesome" When I saw at what tempo was this I was like OMG D: But I can Do it in a month! :D
hey real good job, im a freshman and my teacher told me that i would be playing yellow after the rain for solo, and i was scared shitless. but yeah nice job
You really practiced that a lot didn't ya?:P You did a really good job:O I just started with 4 mallets myself to. I first did some technique and now i have to play this one and another piece ( Jonathan's Light ). But you really did a good job on this one :P Keep up the good work ! Rinze
wow I'm impressed the first time i heard that it was played by Dr. Brannon from Mansfield University and I haven't heard it played so good since then you are really talented and god I hate you for that haha.
tht sounds pretty perfect to me. whether or not thats how it was MEANT to be played, i like it better than the original! ive heard my brother play it many times
This was an honor band audition piece this year and i just love the beginning part of this four mallet piece!
And right now, you probably are much better, so I recommend learning the solo piece "Spanish Dances" and "Parody". I would tell you the composers, but i forgot sorry.

You did great. I have to learn this for an audition and have no clue where to start. So I turned to this video.
ahh, learning four mallets. the pain on your ring fingers is a feeling you will never forget!

Great job! It's 2017; if you're still playing, you must be incredible!!!
Yall realize this was after only two months of learning the piece right? This piece was played pretty dang well for the timeframe. Yeah, i'm sure many people could play better than that, but that is because they are more experienced. For someone to play a piece that well like i said in only 2 months is still impressive. Well gee I thought that was a timpani. Good thing she told me it was a marimba.
it sounded nice. i've heard it played before, but then again it was by a senior who spent most of his time on the marimba for hours at a time. it sounds good.
That was wonderful! I'm playing this piece this year for my solo and ensemble
That performance was awesome!
I'm learning this right now and have a really low self-esteem so I'm not doing to well but hearing will surely help me.
Great job. This is the best playing of this piece I've seen on UA-cam.
I'm apparently playing this, this year. Last year I played Waves, and that was ... simple. This haw more to it! Can't wait to master it!
haha hit enter too soon.... Your technical skill is astounding - GREAT one-hand rolls! I was very impressed, you played the ink right up until the (INTENSELY DIFFICULT!) end :) A job well done! Truly beautiful work.
Nice Job!, i would reccomend Rain Dance as your next solo, it is a fun piece, and challenging
Great job!!!! That was also my first four mallet piece. I am fifteen years old and I am also in the pit in my marching band. I am now on my second piece ( Rain dance) and will be continuing on my journey of marimbas!!! haha. seriously though keep working at it!
- Drew
It's plenty fast. Very expressive. You have a great feel for dynamics. Very cool.
Great job! I am preforming this for my solo & ensemble competion this year, and I'm in 8th grade!
Well done! Makes me want to go practice marimba some.
this was my first solo for marimba as well. you played really well...keep it up!
that piece is genius!.. the thuth is that not every percussionist can play it!... and you... with a few months, you do it so well that other persons I met... even my teacher of percussion... congratulations... sorry for the bad english... un abrazo desde Venezuela...
I played this last year, I thought it was so fun! :) Good job!
gacho! thats freaking good. nicely done. i wish had chops like that
Great job!! I'm learning this piece right now and I can't wait until I learn the whole thing. :)
Excellent job. One of the best on UA-cam. I want to hear the "better" one. Haha
wow i'm learning that piece right now and i am really slow you were amazing! and to do it from memory was even better
Great job! True talent!
Very nice. One of my friends is working on this one, and hopefully I'll be good enough to tackle it fairly soon. Keep it up!
this is an amazing vid, i showed to my friend he's a junior and playing this on tuesday. great job playing. upload other vid lol
Omg, you're so good. That's SOOO good for your first 4 mallets piece :)
I've watched lots of UA-cam clips of this piece, and this is by far my favourite. I think lots of people take this far too fast. Trying to get to grips with it myself, but after 10 minutes my fingers hurt...
nice tempo good playing one of the best on youtube!
that was extremely well-played. congrats, i loved it. =)
Wow you play it really fast!! It's great, I wish my rolls were as seamless as yours.
That's really excellent, thumbs up all the way!
very nice! i am going to try and play this, this year at my solo/ensemble.:)
That was my first four mallet piece too. I still like it.
Why yes! I cannot do that! Mad skills to say the least!
hey, i have to learn this song for a solo competition and its a great example!
WOW! amazing skills! Great job!
Good luck in future, this piece is amazing , show girls can be a good percussionist ;)
Wow! This is really good for your first four mallet piece. I just started learning four mallets this year, and my stuff isn't that clean yet. You're doing great! You've even inspired me to practice more. :) Good blessings on future pieces!
How Sweet!!!! O.O
Im in love!!!
Oh my God!! You should definitely take out the part that says it's not perfect. I am a sophomore in college and that was also my first four mallet piece and you definitely did WAY better than I did at my recital. Amazing job. Mitch would be proud.

Beautiful.
Great playing..
I have to second that. Nobody on UA-cam seems to want to get the notes right. Very nice job!
5/5

I loved this song so much.
@rosskay you can get it from steveweissmusic
I ordered mine off of there, and it just came in today. It's only about seven dollars, but the shipping is almost as much as the music is.
That's pretty good, I gotta play it on saturday for districts. hope I do well.
Woah. Very good. :) I played this solo for contest this year, and I didn't play it as fast in the middle as you did. Way to keep it accurate and fast!
she is very very good and is very delightful to watch.
You got this down!
The only part I can never get right is at 1:19
Very Nice !! you should join the nearest Drum & Bugle Corps immediately !!!
My friends playing this and she's worked on it for 2 years and only has the tempo up to 86 so I told her it's fine bc she's got like all but one page memorized and she can work it up. you see, last year she played The Tempest and rocked it so I have total confidence in her and know she will make state like last year.
TWO YEARS? im a freshman and i have some piano experience and this was my first year learning percussion and i picked up this piece in 1 month.
Well it was fairly difficult for her because she had to get used to 4 mallets
Will Ow
learning isn't a competition
Omg tempest was a great piece I'm only in 8th grade rn and I'm not amazing or anything but tempest will always be one of my favorites!!
this is awsome im a freshman in highschool and this is the first piece on 4 mallets ive played. im on the permintation part after the run and i learned it in less than 4 hours of practice. im hoping by the time im in college ill be able to play mutch harder things than this. to what i heard you only missed a few notes and need to work on balance of all the mallets i hear the 1st mallet sticking out in parts other than that great job!
Great Job...
i have to learn this piece for my friend ha
(hes a prodigy... tryin to impress him)
ha
I thought about doing that as a solo my senior year, but I figured out it was SIXTEEN pages long! D: eff that haha, i might do Rain Dance, that one sounds cool :D
excellent!!! good job!!
Dang and I have to learn this in a couple months for Solo and Ensemble. Dang I didnt think eight grade would have something like this.
Nice job, I like how the mallets were yellow
HER FIRST 4 MALLET PIECE ! WTF ! THAT WAS AMAZING ! your technique is simply outstanding ! and note accuracy was extreamly high aswell ! im jelous ! can u please try teardrops by mitchel peters ! @spongetot22 Yeah. Don't play this for solo and ensemble. So many people play this thinking they'll be a classy percussionist and play a 4-mallet solo! I recommend the Musser etudes.
GREAT JOB!!! ESPECIALLY FOR YOUR FIRST 4 MALLET PIECE. VERY STRONG ROLLS, VERY SMOOTH. WHAT OTHER PIECES HAVE YOU PLAYED? ANY MORE VIDEOS?
Sounds amazing. I wish I could play like this! Do you have the sheet music fo this?? It would be much appreciated. Thanks.
VERY WELL DONE!
really good job just 2 suggestions play on very ends of the keys or right b4 the resonator but not on the nodes and make sure your thumbs are facing the ceilling
Very well done
you're awesome! good job!
It's not perfect? It's fantastic!

I think those are malletech CN14. But I might be wrong.
When I got this solo like some weeks ago I was like "oh pretty simple and awesome"
When I saw at what tempo was this I was like OMG D:
But I can Do it in a month! :D
this was my first 4 mallet solo too. looks good so far. i hated the part at 2:27. good luck!
I was wondering that too, but think those are CN21, CN14 are kind of military green
trust me people still use it. it is the best grip in my opinion. you have far more control then you do with cross stick
hey real good job, im a freshman and my teacher told me that i would be playing yellow after the rain for solo, and i was scared shitless. but yeah nice job
You really practiced that a lot didn't ya?:P
You did a really good job:O I just started with 4 mallets myself to. I first did some technique and now i have to play this one and another piece ( Jonathan's Light ).
