    So fun story about me. I played Saxophone and Bassoon throughout middle and high school. When I got to high school marching band, I was put in auxiliary percussion (since marching bassoon is practically unheard of). My sophomore year, I was asked to do Xylophone, and I initially hated the thought, but as I started reluctantly learning mallets, I started realizing how much fun they are to play. After that realization, I worked my ass off and became center Marimba and front ensemble section leader by my junior year. To this day, I miss playing marimba, and wish I had my own to start practicing again.

    I clicked thinking, "This is going to make me jealous isn't it..." But I didn't expect you to be playing the song I was hoping to learn as I get back into playing marimba after 6 years without being able to touch it... Band trauma was, something else! I'm very happy you included the sheet music, it'll be so fun for me to learn now. You did great! X

    • @roseroche
      @roseroche Рік тому

      no one speaks about the band trauma lol, I haven't been able to touch my mallets for almost a year. it also sucks bc I don't have thousands to spend on a marimba right now. I hate the association between playing marimba and all of the expectations that came with being in band. it'll take work to change that, but im hoping to play again, and I hope you will too!

    What my drum teacher always wants me to do it totally mess with the tempo.
    Chords have to be clean, not played as a flam, but other than that, just go nuts.
    Speed up, slow down, make random breaks (breaks should be long enough to seem intentional tho), get louder and more silent basically all of the time.
    If there is a marking, follow it. If not, make something up.
    It sounds scuffed, but it got me placed really high in a big competition, although I played a very easy piece, in comparison to the others. I honestly think it sounds really bad like that, but when I still sometimes practice it.

    Sounds great! The only advice I'd give is to add more phrasing. For example, whenever I play this I like to emphasize the change in the arpeggiated chords to add some more interest, otherwise that middle section gets really boring and repetitive. Also work on making the rolls in the beginning more continuous instead of separated, because separated rolls like that can sound really jarring. Other than that it sounds really good!
