Just got an srt4 yesterday! Gotta fix a few things (wheel bearings, a/c, window motor, brakes and rotors, and blowoff valve) only 103k miles but I bought for $1,700! I think it’s a steal
Just got a srt4 as well and have most of these mods on it already thank god! Bought it with 80k miles for 7500. It’s got lowering springs (agree with you they are hella stiff and aren’t a comfy ride) powder coated my wheels white and it’s got a short throw as long as a aem intake. I think I got a alright deal! The car brings me so much joy it’s Insane! Cheers bruh
First thing check compression, check the PCV valve change engine oil and trans oil . What causes sloppy shifting are the rubber bushings on the linkage ends at the trans replace them with bugger bushing from modern performance. The problem with the T850 trans is its shift fork wear out really quick especially if you run higher than stock pressure plate, and also the pivot ball its made of plastic with a cheap clip which also creates shifting problems. DSP is by far is the best up grade but leave everything stock , the DSP will get you in the 13sec range , nitrous will get you in the 11 to 12, 9 sec 40lbs of boost and built bottom end and use Darrell Cox Racing stuff so it will last you'll have build your trans with special treated synchros from DCR otherwise they won't last.
BUY AN SRT4. Just got mine with 30k miles on it and it’s fucking incredible. Nothing like it. You’ll have a really hard time finding one in good shape with reasonable miles and tastefully modified or stock but if you hang in there you’ll find one. Took me months. Good luck!!
So imo. 1. Change fluids 2. Do a compression test on the motor 3. Motor gasket refresh kit (fel pro kit) 4. Diablosport Tuner 5. Motor mount inserts or dog bones
I don’t think they updated they still recommend ATF+4 but I use and it has been recommended by modern performance and a Chrysler engineer that designed it is Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w-30 or 10w-40 I’ve been running it for 40k miles and it works perfect. Their are some videos online about it and articles I would read those before you trust me lol cause it is odd putting engine oil in your engine. But that’s what I use!
I know this is 2 years late but check your clutch pivot arm, the bushing is known to break as the stock one is plastic. This is the #1 issue with problems in first and reverse gears. Modern performance has two separate upgraded ones. I run the heavy duty pivot arm with spherical bushing. Next check your master cylinder AND slave cylinder. Any leakage will cause issues in first and reverse specifically. Sometimes just adjusting your pivot arm all the way out will do the trick. Lastly check your shift cable bushings. I run booger bushings and it makes the throws feel much more solid
Which cold-air intake would you recommend? Looking at finally doing some upgrades on my '04...don't need race quality but some extra HP. Also, which exhaust system should I get cause where I live, I'm emissions exempt so I don't need the cat.
I’m not 100% sure I do know a lot of guys have swapped the srt4 drivetrain in the SE but I don’t know about just the turbo. I would be concerned that the manifold flange wouldn’t match the head. But depends what you want you can fit a lot of SRT4 stuff on the SE. If you want performance though the srt4 drivetrain would be the way to go 👌🏻
Check neon forums You can change the bottom end . Better pistons in the dual cam 2.0 or 2.4 (stratus). Then the exhaust manifold should bolt right up. But the forums are the way to go. Has been done before. So you won't be in uncharted territory. Learn from others mistakes and research. Good luck.
Do they even make aftermarket parts for this car anymore? Honestly I haven't seen one on the road for 15yrs now. They were complete shit boxes from Dodge from day one.
I’ve never had the pleasure of riding in an ACR model myself but from what I understand that the ACR had the stiffer bushings on the car as well as a bigger rear sway bar and the adjustable tokico shock/struts but with stock srt-4 springs. So I know the stiffer bushings make NVH way more noticeable so that makes a lot of sense why the stock SRT-4 would be smoother.
Ride quality don't get better with coilovers it's shit u get better handling if your gonna track day it but I your gonna daily it your comfortable Ride you can say goodbye
I do agree with you to a certain extent most coilovers will kill your ride quality but a lot has to do with spring rate and most aftermarket coilovers have stupid stiff rates but I got the ST suspension with very soft rates and it’s actually pretty comparable to stock IMO a better ride than stock BUT with softer spring rates and a lowered car I rub everywhere so 🤷🏼♂️ their is give and take anytime you do anything aftermarket to you’re car
Nice video. Just doing some research because I found a 2005 with 78k miles for a fair price. However I've been hearing that the 2005 has some issues when upping the boost or other things. Anybody know if there's any truth there or reason to stay away from a 2005?
I have an 05 as well and that is something I haven’t heard personally it might have something to do with the wastegate? Cause I put a Diablo tune on my 05 and it boost spiked bad but a pro tune fixed that so I’m not sure sorry I couldn’t help more
@@iamchazhaynes7074 Actually I think people were saying that some sensor on it is real finicky but if its not an issue for a lot of people like you thats great 👍
Sir if I am blessed with a formal job offer based in Los Angeles next month I will definitely be reaching out to you because I genuinely want to get my hands on one of these cars but I don't know anything cars (performance and all that greek you were talking in the video lol).
@@iamchazhaynes7074 Thank you so much for getting back in touch with me sir and yes, once I settle in California (Lord willing) I will make contact with you again.
255/17 tire will fit without any issues. Just need 3 mm spacers. Shifter bushings #1 they fall apart. Same with motor mounts. Inserts or solids. Lower control arm bushings are junk on these cars...go bad and cause mad wheelhop and junk the motor mounts
U only ruin struts with lowering springs if u go crazy low drops had Mopar stage 1 lowering springs and eibach never had issues and buddy's that run tein no issues with no more than the 2.0" rear drop front never goes more than 1.9" also forgot the main most important is Solid Mounts and the 4th mount even a blow off valve helps the car but the most noticeable gain u can feel is an aftermarket Intercooler lastly a oil catch can with check valve u missed some real vital things lol
I had the eibach sport line’s and I went through 3 rear shocks but that’s purely anecdotal lol I’m just relaying my experience I feel like the money is better spent on coilovers. And I agree their is a suuuuper long list of things to do to the car these just are the FIRST five parts I would recommend personally to someone just getting into an SRT4. A catch can would be a great addition these cars have crazy blow by. Like I said I was only going over 5 things lol
I’m just watching this now and I’m honestly debating on selling my 2019 392 Daytona scat pack and buying an SRT4 and fully building it lol FML 🤦🏻♂️ I test drove a white one 10-12 years ago or so that was 450HP and probably close to that in TQ and I honestly fell in love with it, but I couldn’t afford it at the time, they were asking $14k for it at the stealership and I just couldn’t pull the trigger on it, I should have! I regret it every time I think about it! Now these cars are going for about that same price with that much power so they’ve seemed to hold they’re value to some extent I suppose and the aftermarket is flooded with shit for these cars so that’s a plus!
First 5 on my list.
Motor mount inserts
Drag radials front
Cold air intake
Short shifter
Solid shifter bushings
Those are really good ! I’m actually in the process of doing the motor mounts myself! Haha
@@iamchazhaynes7074 i had prothane inserts worked, great.
Fast furious 1 background lol I love it.
If not the whole shifter definitely the SHIFT KNOB! and motor mounts( not inserts ) blow off valve, rework vacuum lines

Holy crap!! That is a steal!! For just a couple minor things and 1700$ that’s awesome!! And the mileage is really good to!
HUGE steal. I wish I could have got mine for that much!

iAmChazHaynes 😂 I know there are more srt4s but it’s rare I see them around town.
I know man! I almost never see any other SRT4’s in town even at the sonic car meets I don’t see any which is whack we’re just a tiny group lol

Short shifter wont help grinding bro, that means your synchro's are fucked.
Cood be bad shifter bushings too
That happened on my sxt

My stock SRT4 rode a lot smoother than my ACR even with the shocks set to the softest setting.
