      100% agreed. You can however purchase another blade size on Amazon ( online ) in just the past year, many more vendors are selling this French fry cutter. The cost of blade however is not cheap, about $30. There are only 2 sizes available as far as I know, the thin one as I have here, and a wider one.

    That's a very good, solid unit. I had one in my restaurant for 7 years. Never a problem, not even with the cutters. The best place to set it is screwed to the wall, over a shelf that will hold the water filled container to cut the files into. Works perfect every time.

    Sounds like a very good, solid unit. I am starting to advocate now though for the anti "some assembly required" pieces. Less trash, less setup, etc. I'd pay extra to have the thing assembled and ready to go and fewer plastic bags for each piece. I understand it's probably a pipe dream though as the unassembled parts probably cut down on cost.

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  5 років тому +1

      When you search on Amazon for this product, you have many vendors who sell it, I guess you can contact vendors and see if they have one that is assembled. In reality, it doesn't take long to put this together. If you want a unit for your home that does not require any assembly, Amazon has many of them, starting at the $12 range. Pull it out of the box and start using it. I have one ( for home use ) that I've been using for over 20 years and it hasn't broken yet, and it's mainly made of plastic. Thanks for watching !

    thank you!! do you think it will be mountable to my hot dog cart for my business? i want to purchase this but dont want suction cups cause that is a pain in the ass. i have seen one mounted to back of concessions trailer but of course it is a bigger wall in my case it would be the side of the cart so i could mount something to the side of the cart hopefully it will hold..

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  4 роки тому +1

      Hi david, those suctions cups are just for mounting quickly on a horizontal surface. Bolting is the only serious way to go. IF the side of your cart is solid, it will work well. You will most likely want to use a piece of plywood inside the cart, so that you have thicker wall to mount the fry cutter onto .... that's what I would do, unless the wall of your cart is really thick. It's an inexpensive cutter, at about $90 or so, but it is what they use in the industry. When mounted on a wall, your power of the pull on the handle is also magnified greatly, - much easier than doing it like I did in my video. Good luck.

    I can also be used for getting an onion diced. Peel & cut the onion in half, place flat side against blade ad pull handle. If you soak onion halves in cold water a few minutes and dry them before cutting there will be no more tears.

    Hi Blake great video by any chance did you partial boil the potato to soften it up a bit or just cut it you peel it

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  8 років тому

      +Richard Smith Hi Richard, there's now Blake here, but I'll answer your question since I'm the one who did the video :-P No, there is no need to par-boil potatoes to slice them with this machine or even a $10 machine mostly made of plastic. I have a very tiny one that I use when I'm not doing large batches and it slices through potatoes just fine ( zero effort involved ). The blades are really sharp, and potatoes are really soft in reality. --- SWEET potatoes on the other hand are a totally different thing - don't even try cutting a sweet potato with a machine like this, it just doesn't work well, if it all, and you could end up breaking your machine. Sweet potatoes are so dense and fibrous that they are a nightmare to cut with a machine - use a good sharp kitchen knife for these and they cut easily.

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  8 років тому

      +Richard Smith Here's an image of what I use in the kitchen, as you see it's mostly made of plastic, but it is built well, and I've been using it for about 10 years now : ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41iq7aG45%2BL._SY300_.jpg - it works super well with raw potatoes.

    • @BakeLikeAPro

    I agree with those saying that this particular unit needs to be mounted on a wall. It looked like there was a lot of effort to get the handle pulled towards you to cut the potato. I don't have the arm strength to pull that lever forward hard enough.
    Mounted on a wall it would be easier to pull the lever down, because you can put a little bit of body weight behind it.

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  Рік тому +1

      Hi there, yes, this unit is a professional unit and is intended to be wall-mounted. All restaurants will have this mounted on a very sturdy wall. It makes pulling the handle effortless. This also allows the operator / chef to place a bucket or large bowl under the French fry cutter, allowing the freshy cut potatoes to drop directly into the bucket or bowl, maximizing their time in the kitchen. Thanks so much for watching ! 😊

  • @honkleretta1050
    @honkleretta1050 2 роки тому +1

    Just ordered one of these, but a different brand name. They all seem to be identical.
    I can definitely see that all of them are designed for wall mounting, to just pull down on the handle for leverage

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, it's really the same model being sold by many vendors, for example on Amazon . Yes you are correct, this is a commercial machine and was made to be bolted to a solid wall. I use mind with the suction cups, but had it connected to a 6x6 post also, and that works very well ( this is for outside ) --- IF you bolt to your wall, you MUST be screwing it into a stud. Do not try to attach it to drywall.

      user96RR, I understand what you are saying. Sweet potatoes are way harder to peel and slice than Irish potatoes even if you have a very sharp knife. Simply put they are tough. I think though that the industrial model can handle the toughest sweet potato with no problem. It might be more of a challenge to operate the handle with sweet potatoes than with Irish potatoes.

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  5 років тому

      This is correct. It is a commercial unit. It is always mounted on a wall in a restaurant. This makes it super easy to pull on, and a bucket or large pot is placed under it to catch the fries.

    Is it cast iron? The "grey color" looks like paint that chip off?

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  8 років тому

      +Junk Yard The grey is paint. I'm not really sure what it is made of, the rod is made of stainless steel. It's heavy duty. I see the same model used in many commercial kitchens. It won't break if used with potatoes. NEVER try cutting a sweet potato with a machine like this, it will not work. None of them do, even with razor sharp teeth. Sweet potato is very fibrous and is just too tough to cut.

      _ Osama Jason -- A sweet potato is a very hard vegetable. It's related to the potato, but is different. You can cut a sweet potato using a heavy-duty knife (and a mallet also helps), but these french fry cutters will break if you try to force a sweet potato through them.

    I am Belgian, the country of the french fries and for sure, to cut the french fries without any machine _ even a very good one - but only with a knife, is really much more better : the taste is better because the fibers are not pressed.

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  8 років тому +1

      +Renée Dedecker Hi Renée in reality, when you are making 2,000 pounds of French fries daily, there are many places in Belgium that use machines. It's just a fact of life, there would be no way of keeping up with demand if you had a guy just cutting fries all day. I can't really see how cutting with a knife or a sharp blade would make a difference though, does the potato really know ? :-P I cut fries all the time, I often cut them by hand, and also using this machine, and another very inexpensive machine ( about $12 ) and I cannot tell the difference. I think it is a myth, but that's my opinion. If you can supply me with scientific proof of your claim, I'd love to read it. - this can be a link you can provide me. I'm willing to learn and always have an open mind.

      Hi karthi, this machine is a commercial unit, which means it's very heavy duty, and it will break if you try using it to slice sweet potatoes. On the other end of the spectrum you have tapioca strips.... this is a dough that is very soft, and may work, depending on how firm your dough is. I really cannot give you better info than this.

    • @BakeLikeAPro
      @BakeLikeAPro  10 років тому

      Maizatul farisah Hi again, I would then try online, it is probably your best option. If you find any smaller baking or cooking stores, you can ask those vendors also. Amazon ships all over the world, and this is a great place to look too. I don't know the brand name, there are so many and they all are basically the same. When you see it on Amazon you'll know it's the correct one. I hope shipping to you in England isn't too much but it may be. A knife may still be your best friend if shipping is much too costly. I just went to Amazon.com and typed in "French fry cutter" and there are many, so go there first and do a search. I see a "Culina" brand and a "Progressive International" brand.... that one to me seems like the one I would purchase. - it's $12.99 Search carefully. Also keep in mind, many vendors sell the *same* product and some of them sell the *same* product for much more money, so be very aware of this. I often see many vendors selling a knife for example for $40 and then somebody selling that same knife for $150. Vendors do not have set pricing for products they sell, so it's up to the buyer to be very aware of pricing and what other vendors are selling it for. ( Amazon ships a lot of things themselves, but many things are shipped through 3rd parties ( vendors ) but they still go through Amazon for payment, so you are safe. Anyway, have fun and good luck :-)

      This type of machine is used in commercial restaurants, and is always wall-mounted. When you have it on the wall,
      pulling down the handle and slicing through potatoes is 10x easier than doing it on the table btw. I have one of these mounted on a 6x6 cedar post in my backyard in my kitchen area on my back deck. - just saying that anywhere you can mount it, do it, it makes life easy and very fast. Thank you for watching my video 👍😊 I'm glad you enjoyed it ! ( well I hope you did ! LOL )

      Hello, this is a great question ! The answer is *NO* You cannot use this with sweet potato. There is no machine out there that can cut these that is for the home owner. Although this is a very strong commercial machine, it cannot cut sweet potatoes. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching.
