  • I spent a recent Sunday afternoon at one of my favorite spots on the Seattle Sub at Felida and caught non stop action. First up a BNSF unit oil fresh out of the Columbia Gorge rounds the curve heading northbound and comes to a stop perfectly in front of my camera. Check that snow on the front of 7589’s plow. Power for the train is; still new looking, 12 year old ES44DC #7589, an increasingly rare 21 year old SD70MAC #9993, and followed with DPU ES44DC #7634. Just a minute later an suv pulls up and one crew member gets on board. Then it’s back to track speed. As the train proceeds around the curve another unit train, this time of grain, comes into view on the opposing track and crosses over to follow the previous train. Power for this train is ES44DC’s #7888 & #7485 followed up by DPU ES44C4 #6741. More videos from this day are soon to come!

Where is Felida? I used to live in Lacy, but I'm not famliar with that name. Is it south of Napavine? Nice placement on that stop!

It’s on the western edge of Vancouver, about 3 miles north of Vancouver Yard. Thanks for watching!

Crude will be made right from work of BNSF

I thought perhaps this was the same oil train parked here in Eugene overnight late last week. But it had a single UP unit on the front followed by two BNSF units, and like this one BNSF units on the back. But the snow on the front says otherwise.
Different subject. Why the hopper cars between the tankers and the locomotives? (If anyone knows)

Regulations require spacer cars between engines and tanker cars to reduce risk of fires or tanker cars hitting engines if a derailment were to occur.

baitsauce Union Pacific has been increasingly moving crude oil through the Willamette Valley. These oil trains are becoming a regular sight in Eugene. They are really cool to look at, and they often have awesome power. Most have CP or CN, I've seen several that actually had CP leaders. Union Pacific has been moving crude oil from Canada, I suspect these are those trains, although I've seen them going in both directions.

@@joshemmons4555 Interesting. My territory is Troutdale, just east of Portland on the UP Portland Sub. I have also noticed an increase in daytime oil trains although not a significant one. The ones here have CP constantly but never CN, and foreign power never leads for some reason. It does appear however that BNSF is also becoming prominent on these trains along with CP, which is an awesome sight.

PNW Trains I've only actually seen one with CN, but all of them that have come through Eugene have had CP power, as well as Norfolk Southern, KCS, and what looked like an ex CSX unit
