  • In its day, the Titanic was a technological wonder. People were so enthralled with the largest moving man-made object in the world that they truly believed it unsinkable. Until she slipped out of sight on April 15, 1912. This enthralling documentary, filled with spectacular footage of both recent and archival expeditions, explores the history of the ship and the technology that finally found it and enabled exploration and salvaging dives.

I thank you so much for putting this footage on youtube. I have a five year old son who fell in love with the Titanic, after watching a documentary on National Geographic or The History channel. He tells everyone from teachers to dad to big sis to grandparents. He loves watching her sail over the water and even more enjoys the sight of her under the ocean. He loves history and has followed my passion for it. Thanks to all for trying to keep history for our next generations to enjoy. Bless You.

How lucky we are to live in a time that we can see actual images of her ghost. Until the last 40ish years, Titanic enthusiasts had to just look at artifacts, and read stories about her.

if the ship would of hit the iceberg right on instead of turning to the left, the damage would have been a lot less.

The Titanic was one of the single BIGGEST tragedies in the 20th Century. Those people that died were not soldiers going to war, they were normal everyday people going on the "ride of a lifetime". That's what makes this SO SAD. I 100% agree with Dr. Ballard. The Titanic should not be touched. It's a memorial now, not some treasure ship to be pilferred over and sold to the highest bidder. That part of it simple DISCUSTS me as a human being. Let those people who gave their lives that night R.I.P.

We could raise the titanic. It is possible it’s the thing we have procrastinated in doing so. We could preserve it more by making something to remove that ugly looking bacteria or scrap it off. We start with the stern little piece by piece since it is the most affected in how it crashed. Also many salvageable pieces.

As much as I would love to see it raised and preserved, It's just not possible now, with the deterioration now literally raising the ship will make it crumble and fall apart. The steel is only so thick now, I don't know how much but there's a recent documentary from 2019 expedition showing the decay it's really sad but she will unfortunately rust away until she's nothing but a rusty spot on the ocean floor.

weird how america seem to have claimed the titanic, because thats where it was heading. it was build here, in belfast. dont understand y people from here, related to the people who built the ship, dont wana do something in memory of the ship, or do something with it. strange

I'll take a trip down there, just to remove all the man made garbage plaques that people have placed there. Why the need to leave that crap? I just don't get why people feel compelled to do that. I guess it makes people feel better about dealing with a tragedy that never directly affected them.

Personally I do not think it's a good idea to try to raise the Titanic... even if it can be done. You have to figure April 14th / 15 1912 11:40 p.m. to 2:20 a.m that's 20 minutes short of three hours that's how long it took it to sink after it collided with the burg personally I don't think anything's should be disturbed I think it should be left alone people died on that ship 1500 to be exact and if only 100 bodies were collected that means there's 1400 unaccounted for I have the movie. I still cry every time I watch it that ship is a gravesite... I think it's very disrespectful to those who have passed on... would you want your grave Disturbed??? Then what in the hell makes you think that they would want their grave Disturbed??? That is their final resting place and should be left as such

Rather than a greedy grab the recovery of those artifacts should be considered artifacts that a Ministry of Culture and Heritage oversees?! It's interesting that now bankrupt RMS Titanic had dibs on a collection of 5500 artifacts. No storyline about the individual objects just a claim that the items are properly cared for and a badly filmed, publicly available skim of some of the items on older RMS clips. In 2018 the whole lot was auctioned off but not to the Cameron, Ballard backed UK Museums, but a Florida auction company allowed it to go to 3 Hedgefund companies. The public would love to know more about what has already been collected.

No bone debris as at that depth it's all crushed to dust..bones are a cavity structure.
The titanic is here to stay they can do all the studies they like but repeatedly they say it's going to be gone in a few years but look at the thing & see for yourself a large portion is very intact..
The railings around the front the anchor chains etc look hardly effected.
Brass fittings everywhere lead & iron so thick it will take many more decades to rot.
The overall structure is very unstable so can't be moved but objects fallen out on the initial sinking process or even the front of the ship where nobody died could be considered savable.
I take things from certain wrecks as I think the dead are more forgotten & history of suffering & war is more forgotten if items are lost forever when many things could be in museums reminding kids that ww2 etc actually happened & it's not just a film or computer game.

Now its 2019! has the wreck collapsed yet?

    • @jonathanbennaman6753
      @jonathanbennaman6753 5 років тому +1

Year by year the wreck will be completely dissolved by the bacteria and rusticles, the superstructure of the ship is getting weaker and weaker. Its been 107 years now and it is speculated that by 2020 or 2023 that nothing will remain of the ship except for the propellers anchors and capstans. Recent expeditions conducted in 2019 have explored the Captain's cabin which has further deteriorated since its last discovery in 2001 and 2005, the forward well has significantly deteriorated and most microbiologists have speculated that the wreck will soon be reduced to a rust pile on the ocean floor. Salt corrosion continues to eat away at the steel hull and the landing of submersibles on the officers quarters in recent years have caused heavy loads of pressure on the well deck itself which was weakened by the pressure of the orlop deck when the ship crashed into the seabed after sinking.

@101superchao It is too dangerous and it would destroy the ship. Not only that the salvage rights only bids them to salvage from the debris field. I believe in preserving some elements of the ship from the field but not large chunks like that. That will take away it's beauty.

well, I think marbles and shoes and such tell a human story, they once belonged to someone, who had hopes and dreams. I think it's important to put in perspective that this event, is, first and foremost, a human tragedy. Seeing marbles, and shoes remind us of that.
However, there must be a limit to how far they can go. They should never try to raise all parts of it, and they should never raid it so that the deterioration is accelerated. No one should also be getting rich off of all this!

You're wrong, if the titanic hit the iceberg directly, the damage would have been a lot more as it would have come to a shuddering halt. It would not have sunk however as fewer of the water tight compartments would have flooded.

Honestly, let the rusticles devour the Titanic in peace. Let it come full circle, cradle to grave, in a way. That is honestly the most fitting end for anything, really.
Salvage rights shouldn't be awarded when something this infamous is found. I think it's no different than ships like the USS Arizona.
