Knotless Soft Locs Tutorial (a modern method) | Cute Girls Hairstyles

- Today I'll be trying the modern method of adding in knotless soft locs into my 12-yr old daughter Paisley's natural hair. To see exactly how I did this, be sure to watch the video!

I started by buying soft locs (sometimes called Hawaiin locs) and textured hair at the beauty supply store. We had previously washed and detangled Paisley's hair to prepare for the new style. We also used a blowdryer to stretch her curls to give us some additional length to work with.
Most of the products I used come from my Hairitage by Mindy haircare line found at Walmart, CVS, Kroger, or HEB (wet products, brushes, combs, heat tools, accessories... and they can all be found via the link in description box above). I then begin to style by parting hair (we used a box braid parting pattern). I did four boxes on the bottom row, and then alternated part lines from there. Once I had it all parted, I gelled the part lines and created braids in each section. The braids only needed to go down about 2-3 inches, and the rest of the hair can remain undone.
Then using a crochet hook, I went through the real braid at the bottom, then again at the top, which created a loop of hair with her braid. Then I took the crochet hook through the top of the braid by the root again, but this time... I attached the fake hair to the hook and pulled it back thru the top of the braid. That's the hardest part for sure!
At this point, all I did was twist the fake hair around and around at the base of the hair and down the soft loc until it covered her real braid and blended into the soft loc. Continue this pattern over and over until you are done.
At the end, I used a steamer to soften the locs by steaming them a little and relaxing the hair. To prevent burns, please be careful not to get too close the the scalp OR use your hand to block the scalp!
Paisley loved this hairstyle and the fun LONG locs she got to wear! After about 4 weeks, we removed these locs. I did notice that I had to be SOOOOOO careful taking them down as it is super easy to cut her real hair in the process. So please be careful there too!

Smooches Mindy.💋... I'm an African American woman that has a natural hair salon and I must say I am impressed. I've been following you for quite some time, since Paisley was just a little baby. The styles that you did on your other daughters I would do on sisterlock clients which turned out beautifully. Thank you so much for this video. And it does get easier the more you do it.
Have not seen your channel in many years. But she has grown into a very articulate and beautiful young lady. As a black woman, I would like to thank you for taking such good care of her.
Omggggg!!! You said it took you three hours??? That’s amazing! I’m 30 years old and when I did my hair it literally took me 8 hours and it didn’t look half as good as Paisleys ! It was soooooooo cute !!! I love it!!! This video gave me motivation to try again🔥🔥🔥
OMGGGG. Mindy I am seriously in tears watching this vid. I remember watching your videos with the twins years ago but I stopped watching after a while because the styles didn’t work on my hair. I now do my own hair but seeing this video has healed my inner child. I never thought in a million years that you would be able to do natural protective styles and do them so well!!!!! Seeing you grow your skills and adapt to Paisley’s hair is so amazing. Thank you for sharing this with the world 😭❤️
Hey Mandy, great job all Paisley needs is some hair jewelry! One thing I do suggest is instead of putting gel all throughout her hair, just keep it just on the roots and the rest put Shea butter and leave in. This really helped me retain length and moisture more while my hair was protected in hairstyles(box braids etc). It does test your grip strength, but it helped me surpass shoulder length because it seemed I was stuck there.😅
Fantastic job!!!! Love a mom who takes time to learn and do her children’s hair !!!
literally she always had her daughter looking so nice and put together, so I'm glad she also learned to do her hair.

You're such a good mum! You are so talented and Paisley is so patient. I can't get over the fact that she is this tall, I remember her when she was a baby 🥹🫶
Your mothering skills are truly exceptional! Your talent shines through and Paisley's patience is truly admirable. Great job Mindy
I'm so glad you are sharing this video!! 🥰 As a Caucasian from a fully Caucasian family, I never knew how long it takes for women to do the beautiful natural hairstyles. I would have been up a creek if my adopted girls had natural hair. Paisley looks gorgeous!! 🤗😍 Great job, Mindy and Paisley!! 👏👏 Please share more so those of us who are unaware can learn. Especially important for adoptive and foster moms and dads! 😊
Been loving the McKnight family for like 10 years now and will forever
I hope paisley starts a youtube channel someday Love this hair so beautiful love you guys!
Beautiful Paisley! Beautiful job mom! ❤
This is why schools shouldn’t ban African American hairstyles. Not only does it take forever to do, but it’s not just for fashion. This is considered a “protective style” because it protects the natural hair from damaging. Imagine if Mindy had to detangle, comb, and brush Paisley’s hair everyday. That would be exhausting and excruciating for the both of them. Great job, Mindy!❤ The good part about all this is that this style could last a very long time. So, it’s a pretty good investment!
What school in America bans this hairstyle? Literally none.
@@The_1995_ there are kids getting expelled, sent home, etc just for having locs, braids, etc do the math....
@@keojiabrown6807 where? Cause I’ve never heard of any school or job.
@@The_1995_ the daryl george situation is the most recent one I'm aware of. That case is going to trial on Feb 22.
@@The_1995_ it HAS happened people get declined from jobs or not accepted into certain schools OR EVEN sent home from school because of certain hair styles …. Maybe go educated yourself. And yes im a black women
I wish I had seen this video sooner I just tried to do this to myself about 2 weeks ago . Mrs.Mindy makes learning how to do hair so simple and i definitely appreciate it . I've learned everything I know about braiding from Cute Girl Hairstyles thank you so much for all the years you've been sharing your talent ❤!!!!
GIRL YOU HAIR PRODUCTS WORKS WONDER ON MY HAIR!!!
These soft locs came out SUPER CUTEEEE!!! Thank you Mindy for sharing these tips, you definitely empowered me to try doing these on myself for the first time very soon 😅 annnd especially thank you for the steaming tip, I actually haven’t seen anyone do that before and definitely struggled in the beginning when I got these done last year for the first time!
Paisley is so sweet! You did an amazing job 🤩 Loved watching this!
I love your hair Paisley ❤ … great job Mindy 👏🏻
Mom: Has been successful hair UA-camr for 10 years plus, has millions of followers, has a line of hair products, is very knowledgeable about hair, has cared for Paisley’s hair since she was young
Paisley: still doubting mom’s qualifications to do her hair 😂
maybe not the techniques but the stamina
You have helped her embrace her inner roots😂🥰 I am so proud of you because I’m black and don’t even know how to soft loc because I’m lazy!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Paisley and her mom cutest duo
Mindy is a beast I so wish I had the patience that you have kudos it looks adorable
props to the huge labour of love
God bless you for taking the time to learn and do this. If my daughter (currently under 2 yrs) wants these styles, I will be taking her to a salon or getting one of my more talented relatives to do it. I will gladly pay 🤣 I just don’t have it in me. I personally love these styles but I’m terrible at them as I never personally wore them or learned when I was younger. I can’t even wrap my head around how you used the crochet hook. I just don’t think my brain works in that way. I also can’t even figure out a simple French-braid either so there’s no hope for me LOL
You did a great job Mindy 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 why is the dog laid out like he / she worked 2 shifts 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I feel so old 😭 she’s so grown up and so beautiful.
God bless u ...wish there were more like you & your family...what a lucky girl!!!!
You did so good. Moms take notes😂❤

I absolutely love what you did to her hair😍super cute as always! Great job👍🏻
Yay to go Mindy! They turned out beautifully ❤
Can’t believe it’s been nine years used to watch your videos as a kid 😢
hiii! i loved this video! it’s so fun to see you doing your daughters hair! it’s always trial and error when your learning to do braids or other protective styles, but you killed it! here’s a tip that i learned from doing my friends locs and getting mine done: if you get a little bit longer wrapping hair it’s sometimes easier. now you’re probably like that’ll take forever, and granted, it might take longer since you have more to wrap but if you get longer wrapping hair you can make them tighter so that you can’t see her natural hair puffing out when it gets worn and you can wrap down onto the loc a little bit so it’s a little bit more secure. i’ve just learned that sometimes they last long this way without frizzing up. i was able to keep mine in for a little over a month! it’s just a thought. but again you did AMAZING👍💕💕
She got big!😍
I've never seen locs done this way! I gotta try it
Paisley's hair looks soo good!
Killing it Queens

Well done Mindy, what a team effort, bless you all, Luv from UK 🇬🇧
So pretty ❤
Mindy you’ve done it again
Mindy i really like that you did knotless soft Loc’s tutorial video and i really like watching your videos on your UA-cam channel.
I love her hair!! My question is how do you remove soft locs? Like where do you cut?
You can definitely wet that hair in hot water. It will lay so beautifully!! So pretty though 🔥🔥
I'm curious to know for how long can she keep them? Also if you go to a hair dresser how much would it cost? It looks great by the way. I would just prefer it a little shorter.
You did great ❤
Great job Mindy. I never knew how much work is involved. You need a massage.
You're amazing I love your channel so much❤
I think dipping them in boiling water, and finishing with a good moose will help them looke way looser and shinier, overall you did a great job!
okay mama Mindyyyy
Love your channel ❤
Beautiful did she say get better next time I would love to see next time what with your eyes closed 😂you did a fantastic job
It looks so 😍 😊
this makes me so happy! it’s rare to see nonblack parents take care of black children’s hair and do it well. 1:09
Paisley and Rylan should try doing their own videos! Together or separate! Either would be awesome.
Very pretty 😀
Seee when I do it my self or have someone else do it for me it never be this neat like this mines be allll over the place …
How old is paisley and can u straighten her hair
these comments are lowkey just a bunch of backhanded compliments

Has Paisley Every Straighten Her Natural Hair? I’m Not Sure On The Correct Term But I Would Like To See How Long Her Actual Hair Is After Straightening 😊❤
I'm a hair stylist from Vietnam
Mantap kak❤❤❤😊
I’m surprised that she never put a perm in paisley’s hair
Oii

Did u know that the Lord our creator does not approve the changing of our hair.......pls everyone repent and seek the true God 😢❤❤
That’s quite ridiculous
She needs her edges laid 😩
That’s insane. I feel bad for you 😮
Amazing!! Way to show up and out for your daughter!!!!! I love seeing this
Wow, wow, wow! What a long process--you guys are troopers. It looks amazing! 🤩 Well done! 👏👏👏
