Wow - this brings back memories. I was working in Manchester in 1967 and living in digs in Salford. Robert Plant came and stayed there for a while at the same time, (I think he was performing at the local working men’s clubs) and either gave me this record or I bought it - can’t remember. Anyway I’ve still got it! Shame I didn’t get him to sign it - never even dreamt he’d become such a legend!
I don't quite understand what you are referring to this jewel...perhaps to its interpretation but certainly not to the song since it is a cover of an Italian song, to be precise it is the cover of "La musica è finita" composed by Umberto Bindi and sung by the Italian singer Ornella Vanoni, which in my opinion is considerably more beautiful than the one performed by Robert Plant.
Our song - we used to call it our song It helped us say hello once It made us fall in love once Without knowing And how we tried so not to show it Even though we didn't know it Our song became just a little bit sadder But it didn't seem to matter Even when I kissed you I couldn't please you And then all at once our love was gone All you left me was our song Every time I hear that song I could cry Now you don't belong - we've said our goodbye I'm still wondering why Oh yeah - those tears in my eyes Our love started like a song But the melody went wrong There's nothing left to do now So I look around for someone new Someone who is very, very, very lonely too Then I won't sing our song
I cannot believe he was only 17 while singing this...that is pure talent right there. I don't know how he didn't become popular because his voice was so amazing, but I really believe that it was because somehow the universe was preventing him from doing so because his true fate was for Jimmy to find him and create the greatest band of all time, Led Zeppelin.
Croon croon croon :) Talent talent Teenage heart throb, I can see him reenacting in the 80s :) This is very cool. He is a chameleon and he would be 19. Quite amazing and predestined :) Such a harmonious voice too.
SARÀ ANCHE DIVENTATO UN ASSO DEL ROCK , MA QUI ASSOMIGLIA AI CANTANTI AMERICANI MELODICI, TIPO PAUL ANKA ANCHE SE ALLA FINE HA DATO AL BRANO UNA SPRUZZATA DI ROCK ..... COMUNQUE BRAVO
I... I just can not wrap my head around the fact that Robert Plant sang something written by Franco Califano. This is even more mind-boggling than Ronnie James Dio singing "che tristezza senza te"
Given that Plant was signed to CBS from his earlier recording session with 'Listen' (although the label only wanted Plant, not the rest of the band) they were aware of the growing popularity of 'crooners' at the time, like Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdinck on rival label Decca and, wanting a piece of the action, had Plant record this. Plant hated the whole experience, not least the song, saying he felt 'straitjacketed'. It reportedly took him ninety takes to get the song right, reducing him to tears of exhaustion afterwards.
Some time during the early summer of 1967, an unknown singer came down to trade dept in the basement called Robert Plant, he had just released a single on CBS records, called Our Song and the B side was called Laughing Crying Laughing and he came in for some reason to pick up the sheet music, which Kassner music published, where I was working at the time in Denmark St. Was Robert was trying to be the new Frank Sinatra?
Why would it be Bonham?😂😂 He and Plant hadn't even met since Bonham did a brief stint in Plant's band The Crawling King Snakes over a year before. Bonham was by now back with his former band The Way Of Life. Besides, recording this track, which Plant hated, was totally CBS,'s idea using in house musicians and producer. They were looking to mould their signing into some kind of crooning star, like Tom Jones who was becoming increasingly popular.

Robert was already great and was just destin for greatness.
Sounds like this guy may have potential...
Someone give this 17 year old a record deal with a band and let the golden god fly
Apparently he was 18 years old here. Incredible though.
I have this 45. It is a very lovely song. I paid $1600 for the white label promo. It’s obviously a rare record.
That voice is THE voice.
It's so good I cry. And bonham is unmistakable
😂😂😂
My God, I can't believe he was only 17 years old when recorded this gem! Pure talent, Robert is the true Golden God!

Original: Sanremo 1967: ORNELLA VANONI ( Italy ) - LA MUSICA E FINITA ( composers: NISA - F, CALIFANO - U. BINDI ) ( 1967 ). Cover: ROBERT PLANT ( U.K. ) - OUR SONG ( english lyric: ANTHONY CLARKE ) ( 1967 ).
Written by Franco Califano, straordinary Italian Singer and composer.

Yet more proof that genius is not an attribute to be "acquired". It simply exists.
Our song - we used to call it our song
It helped us say hello once
It made us fall in love once
Without knowing
And how we tried so not to show it
Even though we didn't know it
Our song became just a little bit sadder
But it didn't seem to matter
Even when I kissed you
I couldn't please you
And then all at once our love was gone
All you left me was our song
Every time I hear that song I could cry
Now you don't belong - we've said our goodbye
I'm still wondering why
Oh yeah - those tears in my eyes
Our love started like a song
But the melody went wrong
There's nothing left to do now
So I look around for someone new
Someone who is very, very, very lonely too
Then I won't sing our song

I agree with you
Robert was actually 18/19 yrs old in ‘67
That Cosmic Energy 🌠
@@MJEvermore853 He was 19 when Led Zeppelin formed in late 1968. So he would be about 17 to early 18 here.
Sexy y desgarrado
Words of one of the fathers of Italian music FRANCO CALIFANO of music of another great singer-songwriter BINDI
The greatness of Robert Plant is here. And plus, at the end of the song you can clearly hear the zeppelin sound.
Except maybe his voice was made to sound lower here if this is from CBS or Columbia.
Bonham too
@@williamstebbins7294 naw, his range is good, but maybe im wrong.

Pure Plant magic from 1:10. Peeling off everything artificial, he shows what he has naturally.
Just a fabulous record from possibly rocks greatest front man. Rog. Pacific sunset records.
Amazing Voice! Always Beautiful Robert!
I am more and more amazed by Robert Plant: his great voice as well as phrasing style!
Dimenticavo, brano italiano, titolo italiano: La musica è finita.

It's the cover of an Italian hit (the name of the original singer: Ornella Vanoni).
