      Thanks Gareth. How does one introduce lyrics to that chord-melody outcome? How do u choose lyrics for such an outcome? Or out another way,can one write chords and melody to the lyrics and if yes,how? The answer this question should unleash music out of us that have followed ur tutorials this far!!!

      In any case the music is about those 3 lyrics, melodies and chords!

      That’s absolutely true. If you’re dealing with lyrics it’s always better to start with the words. You might be interested in our recorded webinar on Composing a Song at www.mmcourses.co.uk that takes you through the whole process of lyrics rhythm melody and chords.

      I love the part of passing, auxilliary, and anticipatry section really clarified things to me even its obviously there but your illustration and demonstration explained it well.

      Exactly! I've watched hundred of millions of tutorials out there and they are all saying the same thing: - just think for a good melody and stay within the scale! Guess what: - it didn't helped me at all! It even confused me, cuz nobody told me about passing notes and notes and chords out of the scale, so beside the fact I was confused, I wasn't able to be rly creative cuz I stayed in the scale all the time.

    Another great video. Not the topic that I need at the moment, but you explained things so well I'll apply it to my counterpoint exercises as well as my cadence exercises. I have just finished "mastering" major triads, and started on the harmonic minor triads. I'm practicing your sequences in every key, and it's becoming easier. My teacher says to keep pounding away on the 88s. He's happy with my progress, and so am I.
    The turning point was your video on Rule of the Octave.
    Not only do I love your videos, but your comments section is the nicest on You Tube. You have built up a great channel.

    Maybe fifty-odd years ago I came across a book in the local library (Cincinnati, OH, USA) by a fellow you probably know of, since the two of you are countrymen and he possessed expertise similar to yours. I refer to the late King Palmer. The book was entitled "Compose Music (Teach Yourself)." I liked it so much I told the library I'd lost it and paid them for it. I still have it. I've written thirty or forty original pieces since then and the kick-start that book gave me helped a lot. Your presentation, which I like very much, reminds me of his. Good work. Stay after it.

    In our country composer called ilaiyaraaja. I observed important two techniques from him it improved my music much. He used to score music for whole film in only three days . most of them got national award , he scored More than 1500 films and still going on. And he made symphonys . all his songs are remarkable. But he compose song in only half an hour including arrengments.

    Sir I have been following your music theory for ages and have moved on quicker with you than any other teacher. I have a question and I hope you can squeeze a few minutes to answer regarding Sequences; The Ascending Sequence "I believe" is Down 3 Up 4. My question is this what number goes down and what number goes up with the Descending Seconds. Let me know. Thank you, c

    do you have a video explaining why melodies may begin on non-root notes & why a particular one may be chosen over the other? I know if every song started on the root, things would be very boring, but I'm asking more along of the lines of why a writer thinks "Im going to begin on the 3rd here" & what the effect would be or how it would dictate the line going forward, rather than beginning on the 5th or other any other tone. thanks

    • @MusicMattersGB
      @MusicMattersGB  2 роки тому

      There are no particular rules surrounding that - it’s more about what suits a song best. If, for example the second syllable of the song is more important than the first you might decide not to begin on the tonic because that would add significance to the first note.

    Your lessons are so wonderfully clear and approachable! A question: do passing, auxiliary, and anticipatory notes comprise the bulk or even the entire sum of inessential notes? Many songs I enjoy often do something fancy at the end of a bar smoothly walking up/down a scale to avoid what would otherwise be a massive leap, like perhaps from G all the way up to E in the next octave. Many of those ascending notes in between don't appear to be essential notes at least if I think in terms of diatonic triads. Perhaps they're using extended chords like sevenths and ninths? In that case, if I revisit them, perhaps half of those notes are passing notes.

    • @MusicMattersGB
      @MusicMattersGB  2 роки тому +1

      There are other inessential notes, there are suspensions, there are extended chords, there are chromatic notes… So there are various ways in which you can elaborate a melody - it’s what makes it all so interesting.

    I sort of reverse engineer this process to get songs by ear. Get the chords down first to get a logical assortment of notes most likely used in a phrase and then choose those that match the tune either while listening to it or playing it in your head. The rhythm usually is not a problem. Great fun and cheaper than buying sheet music.

    This piece sounds so nice at the end! For me, composition has always been something tantalizing. Thank you very much for the explanation! But why in the first place you put the chords F-Dm-Gm-C-F in a row?

    nice video..i have question please?..is anticipating notes the same appoggiaturas? thanku

    • @MusicMattersGB
      @MusicMattersGB  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks. Appoggiaturas are not the same as anticipatory notes. Appoggiaturas are ‘leaning notes’ that come on a beat and are dissonant but then resolve by step on to a note that is consonant with the chord. Anticipatory notes may or may not appear on a beat but they simply anticipate the next note. Hope that makes sense.
