RIP GOAT...missed by millions and still reaching new listeners. I would suggest diving into some interviews and the background of Eddie. Truely an amazing talent and musical genius.
Even with song solos from albums he was a compositional GOAT. He would just play off the top of his head a total of SIX different solo tracts; then choose his idea of the best riffs of those six and create the seventh, and final solo! For EACH song he would solo. The amount of compositional creativity and physical dexterity to move in many cases from one end of the neck to the other in 1-2 notes, that is just amazing! He gave many things to rock guitar from changes to amplifiers to increase and detail 'gain' much better; to how he changed guitars themselves with his home-made 'Frankenstrat' . An amazing man, one of the very few true instrumental and musical Masters of any genre that only come along sporadically each century. Thanks man. Rip.
Eddie is the best guitar player out there. The things he could do with a guitar amazes me. When I saw Van Halen in concert, it was mainly to see him. He said in an interview that he'll play something that just came into his mind. Sometimes he can't remember the riff. It just comes so natural to him. When he died, it made such an impact on a lot of people. He is called the guitar god. RIP. Thanks for doing this reaction
I Loved & Still Love Eddie !! Beautiful Man & The Best Guitarist Ever! He Didn’t Know The Notes Couldn’t Read Music But Figured Out A Way.. He Seen & Heard Music In Colors Which Is How A Genius Seen Music Art Etc He’d Say That Sounded Brown! Hence Brown Sound per Ed Van Halen.. He Also Played Piano..Cello..Organ..Violin…Anything With Strings
I grew up with these guys in socal. Saw them play before they ever got a record contract or open for anyone. I have mad respect for Jimmy and Stevie but you just watched the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that's ever lived. RIP Eddie.
Hey there, this solo is based off a 2 minute song off their debut album called Eruption. Eruption was originally a finger exercise to warm up with, but it was so good that it ended up on the album. Every Van Halen (long A like Hay) fan knows Eruption and it is strewn about this solo in bits and pieces. If you know the original, you know when you hear it in the solo. The rest of the solo is made up of well known riffs and sections of other songs such as Mean Streets and Cathedral. He also has some random things thrown in that probably could be switched up at a moments notice if he got bored. The meat of the solo tho is well ingrained in his psyche. As an example, what you just heard and witnessed happened while he was reportedly drunk as a skunk. I’m pretty sure he could play this in his sleep. Having said that, it’s important to keep in mind that he is the composer of every note you heard…even if he didn’t compose it that night! Eddie was a total guitar god. RIP to the master. Check out the original Eruption, Mean Streets, Ain’t Talking Bout Love, Panama… I could go on. Just definitely dive into more Van Halen!
I'm three years younger than Eddie and grew up with these guys in socal. Saw them play before they ever got a record contract or open for anyone and I was sold. He was raised with classical music. Hence the part where he makes the guitar sound like a violin and a cello. He was the GOAT. RIP Eddie. They'll never be another.
Edward is a once in a lifetime talent. He doesn't have to rehearse like a normal player may have to. Case in point is dig up the Barbera Walter's (i think its B Walters) interview of him where he breaks out in mid interview of Eric Claptons Corssroads solo. He absolutely nails note for note and frankly plays it better than EC in my opinion. But right in the middle of interview. The guy was a total master of the instrument and was so diverse and innovative on top of the skill level. No other player ever like him. Hands down the greatest of all time...bye the way, his sense of rhythm was devastating
You should listen to the original Eruption/You Really Got Me from ua-cam.com/video/zTY8s12OXS8/v-deo.html from Van Halen's Debut album. The whole album is fire. Along with Boston, Van Halen's debut is one of the best. Probably should have listened to this first in order to get the extended Eruption solo in context. Eddie is a phenomenal guitar player. I was fortunate enough to see him do this live in 1986. Thanks and God Bless.
