@Martin Jensen Yes Martin, yes! Ahem, sorry.. I've been drinking vodka for the past 13 hours. Any which way, you're right about 'Fast' Eddie. In Lemmy's biography "White Line Fever" I remember him lauding Eddie Clarke as actually being a stellar blues & old school rock n' roll guitarist who adapted his style to fit Motörhead's 100 miles per hour-style. And let's not forget that Lemmy himself said "We play rock 'n roll." The maestro himself never thought of Motörhead as metal.
@@Blueswailer Fast Eddie's style was so unique that Slash could barely keep up during the guitar solo when he and Dave Grohl joined Lemmy onstage to play this song.

It's a song about gambling but also life: The ace of spades is considered a bad luck card, but Lemmy's motto is "born to lose, live to win." No matter what hand you're dealt, just enjoy playing the game of Life, win or lose. And don't expect or even want to live forever.
It's not the ace of spades, it's the 'Dead man's hand' that brings bad luck, because it was the hand Wild Bill Hickock had when he was gambling before he was shot on his back
A regular bar-fly in my old local once went to a Motörhead gig in the 70s and was stood quite near the speakers. It took the best part of a week to recover his full hearing and was plagued with tinnitus for the remainder of his life. He said he had no regrets and would do it again.
I always laughed at the advice he gave his son, "stay away from heroin, just do meth".....anyone who knows the back story and the interview has to laugh 😁
LOL yeah, he's got some amazingly funny views on drugs. My favorite was from a small little 3 paragraph story in the entertainment section of my local newspaper way back in the 80's that had a picture of Lemmy and the caption: "Lemmy Gives Up Drugs" and I thought, "oh wow a story about Lemmy quitting an addiction or warning of the dangers of drugs ? Wow !"... but no it was about how he doesn't find it gives him the highs he used to get because "he can't find the good stuff anymore..." LOL... Gotta love Lemmy !
Your reaction was spot on. It's about all of those things. He lived everyday ti it's fullest and made it to 70. All of them are dead now. They were Motorhead. They played Rock-n-Roll.
Walking through my village in England at age 18. A van pulls up here we go i think. But it is members of a Motorbike club ( Gang ). I will not name them " Rick get in you will fight if it comes to that. We have a spare ticket but ONLY for someone willing to get stuck in " .... So off we go. I have no clue where i am going, or even who we are to see..... We end up near Norwich ( I think No windows in back of van and a mass of people in the back ) And guess who we are seeing..... Motorhead. This was in 1980..... Yes we did get in a spot of trouble with the members of the Essex Bastards.....That is another story. Seeing Lemmy live was Fantastic. A once in a lifetime...... I should tell you about staying in a Castle on an Island near the river Seven in Wales. Maybe one day.
This song is about playing cards and gambling......LOL>........very simple and straight to the point. First time I heard Motorhead was back in 82 when I bought No sleep till Hammersmith. Got blown away.
I first heard this song while driving home from a girlfriend’s house. I loved it. I thought it was about some gambler thats done it too long and barely cares at this point. Love the channel and i hope you make a million dollars. Also, when my depression goes down the “barely able to feel anything” route, your “You’ve lost that loving feeling” reaction video always helps. Thanks. 😊
You nailed the meaning. Lemmy loved to gamble. Many, if not all, pubs in the UK have slot type machines in them. RIP Lemmy, we miss you. India, props to you.
He's just saying that you've got to live life to the fullest without any regrets because we don't know when it's going to be dealt but eventually everyone gets the "ace of spades". Or I like say, live every day to the extreme because the moment we're born we start dying.
OK... Lemmy... Motörhead... You can't say he's got a fantastic voice. You can't say they are the most proficient musicians. What you can say and have to admit is that they are AUTHENTIC ! That they ROCK ! That Lemmy's voice is distinctive ! Notice in most of Lemmy's performances that he has his vocal mic up high, aimed down at his mouth and he just flips his head back and allows the awesomeness that is Lemmy's voice erupt like a volcano from deep in his diaphragm with no twists or turns to impede that voice, it erupts in guttural gusto that perfectly defines hardcore Motörhead's Rock/Punk style !

As far as yer interpretation of the song, you're not far off. He gambled ALOT on the little cherry master type poker machines.
My top 3 Motörhead songs are "Ace of Spades", "Eat the Rich" and "Bad Religion". "Eat the Rich" has a salacious AC/DC vibe and "Bad Religion"... when Lemmy sings of televangelist charlatans, "I am more fit for glory than any ten of thee !" HELL YEAH ! He got THAT right !
Lemmy stated many times it wasn't about life ,he loved to gamble it was his favorite pastime ,he didn't have a problem he just likes it ,he didn't Understand why people thought it was anything else
I think you're spot on, the song is ostensibly about gambling but it's being used as a metaphor for life and the choices we make. Can't believe that these three fine gentlemen are no longer with us - RIP Motorhead
Lemmy was bass and singer. You got it about the gambling being a metaphor. Interesting enough, Lemmy preferred slot machines over gambling games. And true fact Lemmy was once roadie for Jimi Hendrix in the 60s.
Don't think it's about bad choices. For me it's a celebration - of life, danger, living on the edge... "I know I'm going to lose but that's the way I like it, baby, I don't wanna live forever." That sums it up for me.

Old Casino Dealer explains: 7 or 11 are 'naturals' on a dice (craps) table. Doubling up is what you do on a Blackjack table if you have a good hand and the dealer showing a poor one. Snake eyes is two dice showing one spot. Craps is hard (Barbie) but fun if you want to be part of a whole bunch of guys when gambling. Blackjack is one on one. You against the bank my favourite. But dealing a crazy game of roulette against a big crowd of chinese chucking weird bets at you beats the lot for some dealers. If ;you have a gambling problem, train as a dealer. Putting your own bets on the table after that is boring, its all too slow. Seriously, I have known 'slot addicts' and other guys come into the business whose desire to gamble themselves just vanished overnight. These games are addictive - on BOTH sides of the table. Why else would kids deal for up to 14 hours a nigh on minimum wage in back street grind joints if the wheels hadn't taken a grip on them?
This Song is About Dealing With Life and The Cards You Are Dealt!! Even though you're dealt the losing hand, you still try to bluff your way into winning!! But Many times when you think you have figured out how to get ahead, here comes the Joker (monkey wrench) that sits you down and lose everything. But just like the addicted gambler, you try to find the resources to get Back In The Game Of Life Again!!
Lemmy was the lead singer. He looked hard but let me tell you I have met him many times hung out partied along with lotts of people and he by far was one of the nicest musicians I've ever met. I quite literally shocked I suppose I thought he would act like he looked, hard. I was wrong and that is why they always say Never judge a book by its cover. Lemmy had a drinking problem. He did stop drinking like that for at least the last 10 years before passing. But hey we all have some sorta problem But no I am not aware of any gambling problem. He didn't have a gambling problem. It was all about Wild Bill and how he was murdered playing a a card game but he never sat with his back to the door of the saloon on that fateful night Wild Bill did just that.

Going all-in, all the time. Winning just once is better than to never take the chance :D
