I really loved it this part in the book because through MQ and FX's eyes they see a crazed stalker wanting to take their friend/highness away but through XL's eyes he sees a man that has always been there for him and was looking out for him always. So it's a case of people trying to decide whats best for someone (FX and MQ's vision of a God to be treated like a perfect being with no human desires) versus what that person actually wanted (XL's want to be treated as an equal and also someone who would always be there). This also reminds the reader how everyone in this book series is meant to be human and also this kind of shows Hua Cheng's character flaw (sort of) because he knows this is wrong to be that obsessed with someone and that it would put someone off which is why he wanted to hide it and was so embarrassed, but also shows his humanity because he expressed his love privately and earnestly and didn't intend for anyone to find out. He wanted to literally win over XL honestly which is why he went through all this trouble to hide his real identity so he could form a natural relationship but obviously it didn't work out how he pictured and it showed the beauty in letting love naturally take place with all the flaws and awkward bumps along the way. Like if you think about it Hua Cheng probably would have never wanted to be the "Ghost King" or have all that wealth and power if it wasn't to try and impress Xie Lian. All the efforts were to try and live out a fantasy (Sorry this is so long I'm really passionate about this love story and could honestly write a thesis on how clever and successful this series is on love)
I really like your point about HC never intending for XL to find his cave, that he knew it was not good to obsess over and have expectations of a person. I never really considered that! Now it makes sense to me, that he’s just human and couldn’t really help his strong feelings.
@@LilacLights Well Heya Cheng is really a classic trope of "ugly young, hot older" or more "wait until I'm big and strong I'll show them all". But to his core without really much details we kind of see the type of person if we kind of read between the lines. I honestly could do a whole video about his archetype and how the book series really goes against it naturally and his own little character arch. His first encounter was literally himself not disguised without any tricks and that didn't go out well. We can assume he did some self reflecting and thought he was too intimidating and not approachable for XL, which is why in the second round he goes in as "San Lang". He's learning basically how to communicate and form a relationship with XL. There are soooo many little instances where HC "learns" what his partner's needs are and full accepts them as well as supports and checks them. But what's really fun about it is that he seems to enjoy the new approaches so it doesn't come off as "I'm changing my personality to match the love of my life" and his own personality kind of comes through which is what XL actually becomes attracted to. Like I know it's all fantasy but this is literally like the most believable way of 2 people falling in love I've ever seen in media. Nothing seems forced everything seems like a natural progression, and the most important aspect is that it's playful and fun. I find that most romance novels/media forgets that people fall in love with the small details and little quirks faster than grand marks of affection.
He became the ghost king and got all that power and wealth, not to impress XL, but to protect him. We saw happened to XL when HC was unable to help and HC never wants to be in that position again. That’s why he was so self-conscious when he was stuck in his child form when mount tonglu opened.
@@Levsa399 Come onnnn, you cannot tell me that HC didn't build that palace and erected the temple and had all those dancers, WEAPONS ARMOURY and riches if not there wasn't a small desire to flex a bit. The carriadge being decked out, literally paying for stuff for him? That's a CLASSIC man (trope) thing to do. That's why most of the genuine love-y moments are in Puqi shrine and village to kind of show an alternative life they could have had as a couple in a humble house and village.

I LOVE THIS!!!! So good!!! You can really FEEL their panic as a nearly choking palpable thing, which is GREAT! Honestly, mq and fx are reacting completely rationally here, but unfortunately for them hualian are freak4freak and xl doesn't mind a all xD the way you drew him being awed and then a bit overwhelmed and pained when they started cursing and talking about what a freak his beloved San Lang is.... *chef's kiss*

I LITERALLY LOVE THIS- the emotions come out so, so well, this is exactly how I pictured it. FX and MQ’s protective and unsure natures really came out here, and I love it. It really shows how much they care, and how XL thinks about HC, who he is very grateful for, because he just wanted someone to stay with him and help him along the way, while he can help them. He wanted to seem like a companion since the beginning of his godhood, and he finally found someone who actually followed his wants. I really love how you portrayed HC’s panic, as well. You can really tell why and how he panics, because he’s nervous, he doesn’t want to seem like a creep, to show his flaws, because he doesn’t want to scare XL away. And you can really grasp that with this animation and the book. Thank you so much for this masterpiece!!!

Sadly, if I remember correctly, the book never specifically explained what was carved that shocked those two. Just hinted and allowed readers to use their imagination.
Literally just read it again, lol, no it never specifies but it can be (mostly) assumed that it's the Land of the Tender statue (which is brought up actually *in* text during one of the extras after)

Im sooo sure that it is that flower spirit!!! ,, because we know that every mural corresponds to an event that actualy happened,, and that is only moment that would make FX and MQ (who don't know the context) react like that,, I even wanted to show a little bit of the "mural" but since it was never confirmed, it better stay a mystery :))
I am so happy that I managed to read volume 6 right before you dropped this masterpiece. I enjoyed seeing this animatic so much- it's so well thought through and so well done, the angles and faces and expressions, I am in awe! I love Xie Lian's a bit confused but even touched expression in contrast to Mu Qing and Feng Xin- it felt just as I imagined it when reading the novel! It was so worth waiting for it- your work is really a blessing to the TGCF fandom! ❤️

The book doesn't tell you the exact content because Xie Lian doesn't get to see it, but it's one of Hua Cheng's murals. In an interview, the author said it was papapa (a sex scene).
