  • Repotting seems pretty simple, but taking a plant out of one pot and putting it into another slightly bigger pot, can potentially be pretty stressful, for both you and your plant. It's important to us here at Costa Farms that you succeed with your houseplants --- so we've put together quick guides to help.
You can find the complete list of Plant Beginner's Guides here:
    www.youtube.co....
And here is a quick article on our site about how to repot a houseplant: www.costafarms...
In this guide we talk about the benefits, and pitfalls that can happen, when repotting your houseplant. We cover when and why it might be time to upgrade, how to tell whether your plant is root bound, what size pot you should move to (one size bigger than what you started with), and why (to help avoid overwatering and root rot). We also share what kind of pot you should be potting into, whether it's a nursery pot to drop into a cache pot, or going direct into a pot with drainage, (we know people have opinions), as well as what you can do with your old pots instead of just throwing them into the ocean.
Plus we break down and show you the steps in the houseplant repotting process one by one so you can follow along at home, though we do ask you think about doing this outside, or in a bathtub or even like a big box in your living room, so you don't basically throw potting mix all over your floor.
As always feel free to ask questions in the comments below and someone who knows a lot about plants will come by to answer them! If you're interested in seeing more guides in the future please let us know!

Love this channel. Just the way I like it. Dumb it down. Yah. We don't all have a green thumb but love plants, gardens and dirt.

GIVE THIS MAN A RAISE! Dude!!! Love these videos!!!! I only see this channel blowing up. 🤯 I would like to know when it’s a good time to repot the 4 inch potters that come with the 6 pack O2 series. I’m super excited to propagate my neon marble queen pothos I got. But I received a couple other plants that may need to be repotted soon. It would be nice to get an ideal pot size up recommendation since we’re new growers. Also a link to those sexy drainage pots would be awesome! I really like it because it even looks like you’re repotting a 4 inch planter like I got! 👍 I’m moving onto the next video of the series. I’ve been skipping around. 🫡😂

I appreciate the lower cost of the plants that Costa provides 2 everyone but it would help immensely if Costa would properly label their plants so we, the "New Plant Parents", know where 2 look 2 find the proper care required 4 our "New Babies". I mean, u don't give the same care 2 a ZZ Plant that u do 2 a Spathiphyllum 'Peace Lily', right?

Melissa: Happily, the majority of our plants go out with tags or labels. We do understand the small percentage that go out with a generic tag are problematic for new and experienced plant parents alike. We are looking to ways to address the issues that are currently preventing us from using a named tag or label on those varieties.

What potting medium do you use? I need to replace half of what my plant came in. Apparently, my dog thinks it’s delicious.

Hi! So sorry to hear your dog has been in your new plant! We have different mixes for different varieties, so it depends on the type of plant. But a lot of our mixes have a coconut coir base with other amendments (such as shredded wood, bark, sand, etc.) added for drainage and aeration.

Good tip on repotting, Today I went to Walmart and saw Costa farm Manjula pothos and a 4” ceramic pot and was really happy with it until I got home.
The soil was soaking wet and it felt like mud.
I had to remove all its soil so that the plant won’t get root rot. This happens all the time with plants sold out of Home Depot, Walmart and Lowe’s. I wish something was done about this problem. I know this has to do with the employees at the stores, but I feel they should be more educated on how and when to water the plants. Please do repot right away if you buy a plant that’s been sitting in water.

Can you cut roots so you do not have to move up to a bigger pot?

It depends on the plant, Barbara. Roots are responsible for pulling moisture into the plant; leaves release it through transpiration. So you can trim the roots if it's a plant that also allows you to trim the foliage back accordingly. Basically, in doing so, you're creating bonsai. 🙂
