I love that you keep it real and aren't afraid to show your imperfections on camera. When I was younger I thought there was something wrong with me/my skin care when I got breakouts, and as a result I wasted a lot of time trying to fix something that really wasn't a problem in the first place. Wish you'd been around then to help me manage my expectations and stress less about my own hormonal acne/rosacea situation.
I agree, if I can see Dr. Ellis’s normal hormonal acne and think nothing of it, maybe I should stop being so harsh on myself when I get my own inevitable hormonal breakouts😅
NGl, I'm a guy but I might consider this trying some minimal makeup for big events or dates when I want to look nice just to make me cover up the dark circles and look more awake as I do have a good skincare routine but sometimes my sleep schedule is all over the place. As I've heard some good things about the Nars Concealer, maybe a natural mascara and a slight lip tint.
@imran - nice!! If you just want to “brighten” instead of “conceal” under eyes try the Becca Under Eye Brightener. It isn’t pigmented like concealer so it’s less “makeupy “ and more color correcting. Def wakes u up! Love that you’re embracing it, cuz wanting to look a little better w some makeup or tools isn’t just for women - totally gender fluid for everyone.
I started using the mascara after I saw one of your videos… AMAZING!! I tend to have oily eyelids and this is the only one I don’t end up with raccoon eyes!!
Thanks for that racoonless tip. A friend recommended 'Better Than Sex' mascara, which wasn't bad, but the recent tube got very goopy - a highly technical term! I must have oily lids, which i didn't realize was a thing. So Thank you!
Love it!!! Finally after 30 years of something.., I’m realizing that less is more.. I love finding these videos , as I pick up ideas…I have used the shadow sticks, and I love them
I’d much rather watch one of your makeup videos over any MUA! Your perspective is so valuable and it seems as though you prefer items that are simple to use and work for an everyday look. Let’s face it, even if I had the time to do something more glam it would only make me look like I’m wearing more makeup. Which is not the end goal. 😊
Thank you for sharing!! I laughed when you said makeup artists are probably cringing, but I love your perspective as a SKIN DOCTOR and seeing your authentic routine. Thank you for also sharing your mascara! I have to go find that one!! Maybelline should sponsor you 😂
Thank you for sharing the fact that even though you have had laser treatments for broken capillaries around your nose, they still come back. I have numerous laser treatments around that area and it seems to do nothing. I just gave up and use concealer. Much cheaper and less painful.
Yay for the simple brow routine!! I always feel like the odd one out because I usually do nothing to my brows, I just love a natural look. Might have to give this gel a go though because it really does give a lovely effect :)
Hi I also have rosacea and after I apply my SPF 50 sunscreen I wait a little bit and then I apply Erborian CC Red Correct creme on the red areas. It works amazingly for me, and also has centella asiatica that helps with redness, and broad spectrum SPF 25 as a bonus. On the days that I don’t wear makeup I just go out like this, only cover my under eye area with Erborian CC Dull Correct. It is not intended for under eyes but works well for me. Highly recommend these products if you have combination skin with rosacea!
Thank you so much for talking about how your face will flare up and get red. I didn’t know that was rosacea. I thought I just had melasma and I also thought that whenever I got hot in my cheeks flared up that I was having a high blood pressure spike.
When I learned I have rosacea last year (at 37 years young) I went minimalistic with the make up and finally started using concealer! For years I was only using under eye brightener, but never an actual concealer on the face. I do laser 1-2 times a year for veins and little cheeks erythema which enables me to just go with concealer or a little CC cream with concealer depending how it is. My make up is similar I have fair brows so I use tinted gel, laura mercier caviar stick in au naturel/rosegold and my hg maybelline lash sensational mascara. I have finally found another mascara that I like which is Rimmel Thrill Seeker because I wanted to go for a brown mascara and it does deliver too!
I have a super ruddy complexion and have a mast cell "thing" so my face gets red often. And it is super sensitive. Like crazy sensitive. I love the Jane Iredale Amazing Base. Been using that for years. It is pretty clean as well. You do need to find that right brush that works for you; that can be tricky but once you do the stuff is truly amazing; at least for me. I love the 'my skin but better' look and that does it for me. I literally just ordered the Clinique True Bronze last week (still hasn't come yet) and am excited to try it. Hoping it is as good as my Youngblood bronzers. They are truly amazing. I have the Soleil (the most neutral bronzer I own; and it is pretty matte) and the Mineral Radiance Sunshine, which is a warm terracotta better for summer (I do not like their Sundance, that is way more orange). I was happy to see the Clinique Bronzer scored a 3 on the EWG. Not sure about Youngblood. They say they are clean but who knows. All I know is that their bronzer is so gorgeous, soft and buttery. I have heard good things about the Clinique one so I hope I love it. And.... I am SO excited to try out that mascara. I have used some different ones over the years and do prefer a cleaner one. My eyes also are sensitive so I hope this works for me. I looked up the score on EWG and it was a 3. Not too bad. I do not wear mascara often so I hate to spend a fortune on one. Plus a lot of things irritate me so this wont break the bank if it does. And Walmart takes returns so I will try to find it there. Love your simple and classy look. Def. what I go for. 🙂💜
Wow Dr. Ellis....you really made a huge difference in how I apply my concealer and I am thrilled!! I do have a suggestion for you....because you are in to the super natural look...try BROWN mascara or clear mascara....because you have that blonde look...I would love to see how you look with a lighter mascara...I too have Rosacea so I get your routine and your ambidextrous nature...cause I am too...
Thanks for showcasing the brands you use! Maybelline mascaras- of many varieties- have been staples for me since I was 16 and I also love the Lash Sensational because it doesn't irritate my eyes like everything else. At 43, I'm trying to find the best makeup brands for me after years of trying and trashing untold amounts of budget brands sold at drugstores. Not all are bad- there are some great finds to be had- but most of the brands that don't irritate me are on the pricier side. I have very severe eczema that often flares on my face and especially around my eyes. I was on Dupixent for a while, now Rinvoq and am able to FINALLY wear makeup more regularly, so long as I'm super cautious and careful about reading labels. If there's a single ingredient my skin disagrees with, my face stays red, flaky and swollen for a week after whatever 'thing' required me to put on makeup in the first place. Also, being very fair-skinned, finding a good contour shade is impossible! If I shift to the next darkest fair shade, it's just too dark and any lighter shades are too orange. The struggle is real!
That Maybelline mascara also comes in a brown… which may be a nicer option for daytime, if you prefer (an even more) subtle “no makeup” look. Another nice option… in black or brown is the original version (gold tube) of the Telescopic mascara by L’Oréal.
Thank you so much. I'm glad I came across you again. I like having a dermatologist demo and recommendations. I appreciate and enjoy your relaxed manner. 💚
Thank you for this vid and all your vids! They are helpful and informative. So glad I discovered your channel. Appreciate receiving educational advice from a doctor. I do not have a dermatologist, but I am learning so much from you. Great tips from a knowledgeable, authentic and beautiful person.
Love your Chanel. I had to comment when I saw that you are also a lefty who puts mascara on your left eye with your left hand, and your right eye with your right. I do also! I’ve never found anyone else that does this. Also I saw that you love MACs studio face and body foundation. Again, my favorite! I have also been ordering from Amazon and will be so sad when it’s gone. I tried the new formulation and it’s not the same at all. Very shiny, showed every little bit of texture I had. So sad - why did they change it!? Keep going with the wonderful advice and videos!
Would love to see a video on winter-time (and cold/allergy season) dry nose care. I’ve been looking for great products to help with dry, painful, red, flaking skin under my nose. My nose tends to always be running in the winter and the skin right under my nostrils really takes a hit, Thanks!
I started using tallow on my face a few years ago. Game changer. I mix it with a little good quality real olive oil (not the fake stuff). Truly life changing. 🙂
Hey Dr. Sam! I would love to know your opinion on Seint makeup and Biossance skin care. Also, thoughts on using Extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil for skin care/benefits, and homemade exfoliator. Would love to hear your professional opinion ❤thank you!
Hi Dr Ellis, Thank you for your videos. I am 68 years old with very sensitive skin. My eyelids frequently itch or burn after wearing eye shadow. Can you recommend an eye shadow and primer that won’t irritate my eyelids?
Try Kosas mascara and Too faced better than sex they are both my HG, and Laura Mercier has talc in its setting powder so I use Rare Beauty's setting powder.
I am still using products from an earlier video you put up. Mac Face + Body, concealer over my broken blood vessels-- I use the Too Faced Born this Way, then the Hourglass Volume One Ambient Lighting Palette.
I love this natural look! You look amazing!! I would like to see a video with a makeup look like this for woman that are over 45. Thank you!! So happy I found your channel. 😊
I am also left handed and use my right hand to apply mascara to my right eye too. I am somewhat ambidextrous too as so many things are made for right handed people only!
I’m definitely going to try the Maybelline mascara. Dr. Ellis, are you concerned about the talc in the Laura Mercier powder and a lot of other high end brands also? I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you.
Dr Ellis this was so helpful, as always! You mention broken capillaries/vessels around your nose. I have the same. What can be done to help with them? You mentioned some sort of laser? Thanks 🙏🏼
I enjoyed this video. However a few questions. So you put bronzer on after your setting powder? Why is that? And I have used that setting powder and people rave about it but I still feel like it emphasizes my extremely dry skin and under eyes.
Can you do a video on best sunscreens for kids? I am a first time mom, and I feel like there is a lot of noise around what sunscreens should or should not be used on children.
Hello. Any recommendations for an eyelid primer for sensitive eyes? Most just sting and irritate my dry eye. My lids are red so i do need a primer. Thank you
Thanks it’s the Gelish gel polish in shade “She’s My Beauty.” I feel like online photos it looks more pink but in real life and video it’s more taupe-y pink
Can you please do a video on how to heal and reduce pregnancy stretch mark after giving birth? I used all the recommended stretch mark creams to prevent it but I started to get them from week 32 😢and it’s getting worse and worse.
To be honest if I put so much make up on my skin It will get very irritated on the next day, so in the end I can use only some concealer but if I use bbcream on my whole face the next day or even couple of hours later I'll have problems 😒 so it is not an everyday option for me
Love your videos, but so confused!!! I'm 57 with fine lines and some wrinkles and I also have rosacea with some broken blood vessels, I've tried laser treatments but they just come back. Right now I'm using a power foundation, But I feel not working for me anymore. I've been watching all your videos and I'm so confused!!! So at night before bed what should I be putting on my face??? And what in the morning all before makeup??? I'm going to try a few of these foundations don't like anything heavy. Please help with the other stuff!!! Keep the videos coming!!!
Hi there! I have a question about the irestore device, I got it over the hols from your code and was wondering how you check if the LED lights are working? I bought the extended warranty in case any of the lights go out, but I realized I can never tell anyways because the helmet shuts off as soon as it isn't on the head. How do you periodically check the quality of your lights?
@@DrSamEllis thank you. There is a lot of controversy around that. Maybe you could do a more in-depth video on this topic. For years I had a fear of using SPF due to that worry and didn’t enjoy mineral ones. Makes me feel so happy that I can wear my beloved La Mer spf 50 safely.
Dr. Ellis, you're fantastic. But, every "no makeup" makeup, or "five minute look" I've ever seen requires SO MANY PRODUCTS. Kind of defeats the purpose, imho. Thanks for a good video..of course, the finished look is great. I'd just love to see something really fast and easy. 🌹
I suffer from melasma, and nothing is working to eliminate it. I wear 3-4 layers of mineral sunscreen to start my day (40-50spf) and reapply 2-3 times daily, and even with all the topical actives, my melasma darkens and spreads. But you mentioned you have/had melasma, aren't you concerned with applying makeup over sunscreen that the sunscreen will budge and won't protect some of the areas on your face? Do you have a video of you reapplying sunscreen over makeup? Sunscreen is not cosmetically appealing, and it looks so good on you. I may apply too much. Melasma is such a struggle and controls a lot of what I do. I am also a boy mom, and I hate being careful outside. I want to play and not fear the melasma spreading or darkening. Could you do a full-day routine video instead of multiple videos?
I love this simple routine. It’s not your usual “simple” routine with 25 steps. This looks manageable and it turned out beautifully.
I love that you keep it real and aren't afraid to show your imperfections on camera. When I was younger I thought there was something wrong with me/my skin care when I got breakouts, and as a result I wasted a lot of time trying to fix something that really wasn't a problem in the first place. Omg the Lash Sensational mascara is BRILLIANT!! The only mascara I've ever repurchased. Definitely holy grail
Isn’t it awesome? They better never reformulate 😅

Some chemical filters can be detected in the bloodstream but that hasn’t been associated with harm to humans.
How to achieve that super chiseled cheek bones that you have?
She mentioned she naturally doesn't have much buccal fat
@@missalicesmiles she doesn’t need it
@@tiffprendergast not now but some people without buccal fat look like malnourished cancer patients in old age
You have such great lips!
Looking old and wrinkles is far more attractive
To be clear, those are tiny dark circles.
I don't think a makeup artist would cringe at this, it's very similar to the beginner video from Nikki LaRose for "no makeup" makeup
