I really appreciate you talking about this! I feel like so many derms don't discuss the cosmetic treatments they have done and act like their current look comes solely from great skin care products and stuff like facials. I'm so here for the transparency and normalization of *subtle* cosmetic changes.

Some people lie that they don't have anything done because 'you can't notice it' -- that's annoying to me. People should be real like she's being here.

    • @LDM805

What are you talking about? She's beautiful and her procedures are clearly done well, but she looks very done. She may have not been very expressive prior to botox, but she has the tell tale frozen signs of botox now and the unnatural lip movement that comes with filler. I honestly don't care what people get done to themselves, but it's such a disservice for everyone to lie about "looking natural". If people are saying they didn't notice she's had work done, they are being polite as people should be.

Nice video. Around 35 years ago a dermatologist convinced me to try ablative laser. I did 3 course for red, brown and broken vessels. I've continued with retinols, great skin care, etc. Recently, secret RF. No surgery. a bit of cheek filler and botox. I am now 71 and people cannot believe I am over 40. Yes that little avatar photo us really me!

Nobody should feel shame about getting their cavities removed or getting braces to straighten their teeth and there should also be no shame associated with the way we want to repair skin damage or keep our skin looking its best. Excellent video as always, thanks so much for sharing. I DO have a favorite treatment, and it is not used that often because there is downtime. I had chloasma during pregnancy, then poikiloderma, of face and neck just like my mother. What got rid of this, my rosacea, and almost any other discoloration, was photodynamic therapy with Alpha Levulinic Acid and IPL x 3. Painful, but definitely worth it. Visia system pegs me at about 50. I wear no makeup at all, just sunscreen.

I love appearing natural, but at 49, I also love looking "good for my age". I take really good care of myself, I am a vegetarian, I do not eat sugar, etc but I have also had botox, fillers, microneedling (multiple sessions) PDO threads, etc. All at separate times, I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I am very pro-anything that makes you feel good about yourself.

I appreciate your transparency. I’m 59, and have had several sessions of v-beam and pico. Love the results, and its quick! I’m in and out of my derms office in about 20 minutes. Although, v-beam smarts! Overall, I’m really happy with my skin. Except for my neck. And, I decided to get a lower face lift for that. It wish my neck didn’t bother me so much, but it does 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m happy that I made a decision about it. I’ve literally spent thousands on at home devices that I don’t use 🙄🙄

I am 49, I have only done a VBeam a couple of times, trying to tame my rosacea, it has subdued but not completely gotten rid of my redness, so I still have to frantically cover it with makeup. Yep, so no fillers, no botox but I do look young. Before menopause I looked at least 10 years younger, now, having gone through menopause and several years of depression and no sleep, the difference is probably smaller. I am convinced that a couple of extra lines on the face don't make much of a difference in terms of how people around you perceive your age. It's more that it's the gait, the flexibility, the stamina and other physiscal parameters that are a telltale sign of our actual (non-calendar) age.

This was so beautifully explained so that I could not only understand the procedures as one ages but also can understand why it's done and for the purpose. Thank you for giving your time on all these services. The small procedures you have done really have enhanced your beautiful face. At age 32 I didn't need anything just due to genetics and having a little extra weight on. As I am now 57, yes I now need some of these. I think every woman is beautiful in their own way just as they age. I like the lite looks, nothing major is for me. As a mother to a 21 year old young woman, she is really into watching your videos on skin, hair and nail care and has taken way better care of her skin care than I did. My compliments for a most informative and personal look at these treatments/therapies. This means so much coming from a Board Certified Dermatologist. You're gorgeous with gorgeous skin. I've been happy with Botox between the brows and for crows feet. I've been happy with Vollure for lip wrinkles and Voluma for cheeks and had a little Voluma I think on the jaw line. I am saving up for Ultherapy and considering RF microneedling. I'm in my 50's and spent a lot of time over the years in the sun without sunscreen. I just subscribed and can't wait to learn more! Thank you very much!

I’m 52 and only started getting Botox 3 years ago and never fillers on my face (only on my lips) because they scare me since they don’t go away and I don’t want to change my face shape. I did get ultherapy at 40 and I think it did help me age better. I wish I would have done more like every 5 years. I have been doing radio frequency treatments for about 5 years and that also helps a lot. Also 3 years ago I started adding some filler on my upper lip. I have always looked younger but now I’m starting to see some changes (some jowling and sagging of the cheeks and neck and melasma) so now I am looking for other procedures that could help me. I’m looking to do a halo laser with my dermatologist and looking into Sculptra or ultherapy again.

Thank you for being so open and honest with what you've had done. It was very interesting. I thought you didn't have that much done since you're so youthful looking. I'm 43 but I'm half Korean (half white) so I'm able to maintain a youthful appearance still. It seems like once Asians are old though, they look really old. ha ha My mom is Korean and turning 80 this month (March 2024) and looks like she could be in her early 60s. She does take good care of herself though. She eats right and exercises. I'm overweight unfortunately so I'm now working on getting healthier so I can look my best soon. I also have skin care products that I started using Fall 2021 after I turned 41. I found another cosmetic dermatologist on UA-cam that I learned all about skin care and skin care products. I'm loving learning from you also and your view on skin care products.

What do you think about new research that suggests filler can stay in the face for years and years? And that it can travel away from the injection site to other places? MRIs have proven this happens. Is that a concern for you? Thank you!

Very informative :) For myself, I do not want any procedure. I don't see my face or body as something I need to work on in any way apart from keeping it healthy (diet, exercise, sleep etc) not because I am perfect but just because I want to use my time and money for things that fill my soul, as my body will leave me at some point soon or later. I do appreciate any part of me and grateful to have a body that functions and allows me to life my life. This is enough to me. I do like using cosmetics though that keep my skin in a nice condition such as retinoids, moisturisers, spf.

I'm 57 and just had my first V-Beam laser treatment for the broken blood vessels (right on the center of my cheeks). REDNESS is my biggest problem. I always blushed as a child, and in my 30s I started to notice the little blood strings on my cheeks. Diagnosed with Rosacea in my 20s, I didn't learn it was VASCULAR Rosacea until a few months ago. I plan to get V Beam a few more times, and then as needed.

@@hihellojuli I have Dr. Jart. My other problem is dryness so I can’t always cover it. Things dry out and my face starts flaking away.

THANK YOU for this! This is the balance of beautification / maintenance I hope to strike so this was so super encouraging. I follow you because I'm struggling to manage rosacea and appreciate your regimen tips and advice for that especially. Now that I'm 40 and have the income to begin some treatments it's been hell spending my modest budget trying to get the redness under control (although I know that I'm lucky to be able to address it w/ a professional at all). I hope soon that I will be able to get into the more "fun" treatments.
All that to say: COULD YOU PLEASE PLEASE! Do a video on how to find a great cosmetic derm or injector for stuff like this? When I think about starting to set consultations, the thing that causes me massive paralysis is FINDING a cosmetic derm or injector! I've had two underwhelming V-beam treatments from my current provider, a PA. I feel like it's an afterthought and I'm not exactly thrilled with them overall. I want to find someone with skills to make these precious treatments count and if it's not too much to ask, I'd like to feel connected to them aesthetically or that they 'get' mine anyway. It's a lot of money and of course- it's my face! I would be willing to do the legwork and pay what they're worth if I thought I could avoid as much trial and error as possible. Would appreciate advice for how YOU might approach finding someone... say, if you moved somewhere with no connections and had to get your treatments. (Also love the irony that the people who have amazing subtle work don't present as "having work" and lean towards being less vocal about having tweakments hard to get word of mouth recommendations, lol)

Thank you so much for sharing! Super informative from a Derm’s perspective. I’d love to hear more about using tretinoin/Retin A.
Info about me for readers: I am 52 and about two and a half years ago I did Ultherapy on the whole face. Note to readers: the Pro-Nox analgesic inhalant is a MUST HAVE- this procedure is very uncomfortable otherwise. It has a zapping/burning sensation depending on the ultrasound levels and/or the location on the face. It cost me about $2000 for the full face in Houston. I had minor bruising after and the effects take several months but also last a few years. I do think it helped but the effects were so subtle over that it is hard to tell. If I do it again, I would do a neck treatment since that is where my most lax skin is.
Botox: Two years ago I started Botox on my “11s” between the brows and on my scowl muscles on the sides of my mouth. Botox in these areas has been awesome for my resting bitch face; I actually notice when I get feeling back in those areas and it makes me feel more cranky! It takes about two weeks to see the full effects, but the long term improvement will keep me coming back about three times a year.
    Filler:
I did some filler in my brow lines and my marionette lines a year and a half ago. It felt kind of ropey and placed too low in my jowls but it did help the corners of my smile from turning down. The regular Botox has actually significantly removed the lines between the forehead and paralyzed my marionette scowl lines so well that I don’t really need filler there (and Botox is a LOT cheaper than filler, although filler lasts longer).
Overall: I have been a daily sunscreen user and retinol user for about two+ years. I’ve had to slowly move up from retinols to retinals, and currently a .05% tretinoin formula from Curology. My issue has always been dry flaky skin and mild rosacea with the retinoids. I am still be dealing with this.
Thanks again for the detailed post!

      You’re beautiful, Melissa!!
I’ve been wanting to do Ultherapy, but have been wary of the pain. Is the Pro-Tox something your provider uses with clients? I’m guessing only a derm would be able to use it?

I’ve never done any procedures. Looking after my skin with good products, being sun conscious and getting the occasional facial is the extent of what I’ve done. My skin has lost some of its elasticity but I still don’t have dark spots, wrinkles or anything. I’m a lot older, so am pleased so far. I think if you have the means and wish to do treatments, you should with someone like a dermatologist. However, I think that people need to focus on being healthy and not to feel that they’re inadequate for not doing lots of procedures.

Amen, practices and products are key, building confidence and grace in the aging process is so lost and an essential tool for a woman, we all will eventually show it in one way or another… Great video though on the layout of current options and pushing minimization…

Thank you so much for making this video! IMO, there is a big gap in UA-cam on the subject of cosmetic dermatology treatments. It is so helpful to hear what procedure you prioritize for yourself and why, because you are an expert who also “walks the walk”.
