      Thank you 🙏 of course, what a fascinating idea. Remember seeing the Faller digital, satellite car system, in action, some years ago. Could do with a C3PO to help me film these videos and R2D2 to help sort the edits in post. My creativity at present, is bubbling ahead, there’s so much I’d like to do, learn and get out there in a concise manner. Very exciting times indeed Pebbles

      That’s very kind of you. Guess I’m getting to do now, in my own way, what was a bit, just out of reach growing up. Was just thinking how my parents weren’t able to really join me in my enthusiasm for music or, model trains and cars etc. A good steady job made them feel secure. Do what you can, rather than, do what you really love, seemed to be idea and, yes, I guess, it kept me in balance at times. Who knows what would have happened, had I been given the freedom to fully express outside that, what can be found, in abundance within lol.

    Great stuff we’ll done. I myself am on the waiting list for the pre-order of that wonderful new Hornby magic instrument that will allow us to use our existing HORNBY elite controllers without changing any chips in the existing DCC stock and we can then control with a smart phone so I want a larger layout I can get to the other side and still be in control. I’m looking forward to the future and just like all the excitement and enthusiasm. You have demonstrated here I look forward to more.

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Рік тому

      Thank you 🙏 Regarding control though. You’ll still need a Bluetooth chip in your locos to control them with a gadget. The bluetooth Dongle, if that’s what you mean by ‘magic instrument’ only then allows the gadget and an Elite or Select, etc, to talk to each other. In other words if you alter a setting on one, it will update the other via Bluetooth. At present this isn’t achieved when using both, as I do but, you can still switch between them and as you switch the settings will then resume from where you left them. Hope this helps. PS You can control the new Bluetooth loco decoders in the usual way down the track.

    • @josefbuckland
      @josefbuckland Рік тому +1

      @@modeloco well Hornby assure me I won’t need to do anything to existing chipped locos it’s basically just a Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the rj11 Jack at the back of the elite and allows you to control the elite from a smartphone it seems pretty simple to me and I look forward to adding to the setup when it’s shipped later this year I’m told it’s a game changer and I like it . BT talking to BT direct in a layout seems range limited on massive layouts but I guess those on massive layouts are using more pro based DCC solutions from digi mrc etc still I’m just a tiny operation and I would not part with my elite for any other controller. Keep up the great videos see you in the next one.

      @@josefbucklandThanks. Having just looked at this again yes, it appears if you have the RJ12 fitted dongle which the Elite accepts of course then, you’ll be able to control standard DCC fitted locomotives, via the app too. Just not being able to update CV settings on the layout itself as you can with Bluetooth chips. Thank You for the nudge and how good is that. Brilliant 🎉

    I hope all those noises don't give you tinnitus as you lay awake in bed at night! Interesting video. A long while ago C.J. Freezer published a booklet called a Home for your Railway, that had a suggested design on the front cover, with a covered section. I suggest you do this rather than run the train along the windowsill where bright sunlight will affect the plastic! If you have two tunnels and a hill with a shelf inside, then the Elite can be concealed there. All good fun, Thanks for uploading.

    • @modeloco

      Have plans to add a contoured backdrop scene to block some of this, about 7” high so, as not to impinge on the daylight view and, have added a sky blue blackout blind too, that would easily go behind but, won’t leave locos on there to fade. Not sure what to do as yet, which is open to ideas. Looking at inclines, am tempted to add one in the next phase, all good food for thought. The book sounds like a great read👍 many thanks!

    • @AllensTrains
      @AllensTrains Рік тому +1

      @@modeloco I would not have any inclines. However I might consider installing a mezzanine level. A train going over a viaduct at the back of the layout always looks good! The fact that the train on the upper level cannot get to the lower level does not matter much. I would consider having the layout on a single standalone board with access all around, as this is gives you a lot more camera angles which makes for more interesting videos, rather than the fixed perspective you are chained to with your present set up. As a TT layout is so small, you can put it on casters and wheel it out and wheel it back into the corner after taking the video! Have fun,

    It’s here and it’s great. I think I spotted why you had some issues Andy or it could be a couple of your screens may be out of sync in the video. The updates you are prompted to install are to the decoder not the device you using as your controller, so you need to link the decoders to your device first, update the decoders to latest spec and then it’s all good. The sound files are big so take a while, it can take a couple of uploads to get it in, it’s probably the device doing other stuff in background that causes this, and then remember to upload the running and functions files and you are good to go 😁 I expect we won’t see you for a while now, it’s all very addictive

    I need help I’m a total noob 🙈 I have lots of TT stuff got 75 feet of new Peco flex track only thing is I’m not sure how I’m gonna power it, I bought a Hornby transformer 15v-4amp power supply with a 2 prong adapter thing 😂 so do I just need to cut my adapter prongy thing and wire that up to my Bus wire that feeds my droppers. Sorry folks but I’m just unsure, I’m not using all the 75 foot of track.

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Рік тому +1

      Basically yes. The prong thing as you call it is probably the Hornby R7324 adapter wire, one end plugs into your male ended mains transformer end to save chopping that bit off then, yes, cut the other end off and bare the wires or, solder two new wires onto the prongs, bit messy looking, that option, then they’ll need soldering onto either the underside or, outer side of your track but, not the inner of the rails as that’s where the train wheel flanges run of course. It’s better to cut the sleeper away underneath and solder your two dropper wires there, pointing inward so, they’ll both drop through one hole in your baseboard in the centre of where your track runs.

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Рік тому +1

      Now, there are the Peco PL-82 Power feed joiners if you don’t like soldering which are n scale but, Peco TT:120 track uses n scale fishplates so, another option

    Hi Andy, Found the answer in the 'Full Reference Manual'. (copy - paste)
    "STEAM LOCOMOTIVES... Engine Running Sound
    Non-Synchronised Wheel Chuff system... Utilising 18 pre-set chuff rates an approximate synchronisation of chuff/wheel rotation is possible."
    I my humble opinion this is the same system as the TTS and thus not as the real chuff should play ! There are no CV settings - it is 'Pre-configured'. The Non-Synchronized chuff is most noticeable at start and slow speed. I will compare with the TTS to find out if there is a difference... but this seems already a dead born child !
    Seems a false declaration made by Hornby on the live chat and that's not very positive on their already disputable Image !

      @Filip 36 “Dead born child” what a strange way to describe a bit of electronics that doesn’t live up to your “chuffing” expectations. In case you missed it you are buying into a system that requires only a power supply to use - no DCC command station. You’re getting a decoder that can switch seamlessly from Bluetooth control to DCC control. You’re getting a vast array of sound files at way less cost. Now for the purists the chuff sync may be important but I humbly suggest that this is not a poor product as your rather crass description suggests.

      Let not, division in thought divide us. There’s no doubt in the pursuit of creation, that doubt, chaos, mistakes and, misunderstandings always occur. Words can go deep, depending on our own life’s experiences. We can even be our own worst enemy too, depending on many things. I grew up with my grandma often using quips and sayings, to get her passionate feelings across, like, ‘Ooo, enter the fairy spitting blood’ when she felt unheard, unloved, ignored or, that things were going in a certain direction, that she felt would lead to an even worse outcome, if not addressed. She could be very hurt too, by the responses back, from my Auntie. It then became a battle to win over the other Auntie and, I would watch it unfold, until one would breakdown in tears, usually as we all played cards and a game of Snap, at the table. It was so sad to witness. I’d then feel hurt and feel the need to stand up for whoever was upset but, had no skills or, words to voice this, as my mind would try come to some decision, who was hurting most. My Dad would laugh and say, sticks and stones may break my bones but, words shall never hurt me. The truth was I knew they all loved each other and just wanted the best and, that this friction was all part of the process week after week. I’m not taking sides and understand both the heads and tails of it. I feel the same emotions and passion here too, as we all go forward. I’m truly grateful, that I’ve found others who share the same love of a great hobby. Beats playing Snap! Hugs

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Рік тому

      Did say it quickly but, no it’s just for iOS and soon android. Not windows PC or, a Mac computer, which, for instance runs on OS, which is a different operating system, though they are coming closer. Railmaster does run on a computer but, only the windows PC operating system and can toggle to an android or, Apple iOS device but, it relied on dedicated settings, home Wi-Fi, a strange connection process and so, was very hit and miss.

      The chips did burn out initially on release if you tried running in Analogue mode, etc on certain controllers. I indeed had this happen. They’ve since amended advice and updated the app too a few times and have had no further issues at all. The Bluetooth decoder is slightly bigger but, fits in TT:120 locos apart from Class 08

    The big red flag for me is you need a Hornby account to use the app. If they shut that down in the future it's stone dead. I would wonder why you need an account to use the functionality.

    • @modeloco
      @modeloco  Рік тому

      Hi Graeme, The app is free. The decoders are about half the price of other established sound chips and, can be accessed via normal DCC controllers, once set up and, you’d do that straight away. Regarding Hornby shutting down, mmm, were this to ever happen and yes, that could happen to any company out there but, as model manufacturers go, Hornby have been around about the longest and, the latest products, speak for themselves because, from what I’m seeing now, are superb. From this alone, I feel, only strengthens their future. Nothing is certain, let’s face it and, everything must eventually pass or, evolve. Account registrations, are what most apps and companies would ask for, nowadays so, they can validate users, to keep other users safe, to continue receiving updates, news, warranties and, thus helping, secure you to the system, on your device, should your device ever get stolen, hacked into or, damaged in future. The links protect your decoders from being linked into, by anyone else, once connected. In the past 20 years dealing with Hornby, as a consumer, I’ve found them to, always go that extra mile and hope this helps 🙏

      Same can be said about Railmaster, and that keeps on being supported by Hornby.

    I shall hold back on this as Hornby have made them fairly cheap to buy as they probably are looking to draw people in and shall be looking to charge people a subscription cost to cover the Bluetooth coast of the system that they shall have to look after any Hornby. @Modeloco that is very true I don't know if it the Speaker or the profile just sounds very Ratley and high pitch but maybe sounds different in the flesh but I do see massive potential for this if hornby open it up to allow outside sound profiles and if thay made the chip a lot more smaller so to accommodate for much wider range of locomotives

      @@brickleyyard4966 The You Tube algorithm does seem to filter out certain frequencies to enhance speech on mainly spoken content so, this can add unfortunately, to the brittleness I feel. Plus, the recording process &, the gadget used for playback can add to that as well. I noticed a more encompassing (surround sound effect) improvement straight away & own both TTS & SOUND FITTED, Hornby & Bachmann models. More experimentation being necessary as placement can play a pert but, didn't feel it was worse. Having just fitted another with the included plug in, sugar cube speaker, to a OO model so, with bigger Bass enclosure & their new plug in 'Power Bank', I'm very happy indeed.
