15:43 It's a brand new vehicle right so why the steering control is so damn dirty xD
totally normal, that was the offroad vehicle where it is constantly dusty
Great review as always, Thomas! Didn't know you guys were coming down to UAE. I stay in Dubai and would have been nice to catch up with the Autogefuhl team!!
Nevertheless, a great first step by Audi. However, the idea of side cameras instead of mirrors is cool only for concept cars, actual implementation is quite irritating to say the least. Moreover, the small size of those side cameras look so disproportionate design aesthetic wise.
Lastly, even though silent cars seem like a nice solution but I think safety wise it will always be better to have some kind of sound to recognise an approaching vehicle. Maybe they could implement sensors (front and rear) that would detect traffic up to a certain distance and the car would produce noise based on that requirement ? Much needed I think.
Can't wait for the full HD full screen & full length..... Let's goooo
"full lengst" with the German accent :p
@@ruben_12 i'll make sure to learn german 😂😂
yiha =)
Love these full reviews, really informative. Thanks.
Thanks please share :)
Hi Thomas, thanks for the review. What do you mean by "freeload" - you mention it when testing the acceleration around 26.30 min?
Preload - hit the brakes and pushed throttle then release brake like launch control
@@autogefuehl Thanks a lot Thomas.
Just got my 55 on Friday. What a great car! Coming from Volvo XC60 T8, this is really a step up! :)
Very informative as always, Thomas! You talk a lot about the e-tron being very silent. Is the car equipped with acoustic side windows (optional) or does it have the standard windows? Any other optional silencing equipment/measures?
Yes all acoustic layers =)
What is the obsession with making everything electric from the mirrors to the climate controls isn't it just easier to have it manual?
You need to try the mirrors to appreciate how much better they are, especially in a chronically rainy country like England. Looking through a wet window at a wet mirror is borderline useless compared to the digital alternative of a small water repellent lens and a nice dry screen. The software removes glare from headlights at night, you can zoom around, and they record everything. Again, don't knock it until you've tried it.
@@MonstaMunch101 I have, i live in Cornwall and I still don't like them..
Looks like a Saab 9000 from the back - dated !
Time for 4K. Full HD is so 2017.
We film the 4K since 5 years. But we cannot upload 50 GB per episode. Bandwidth is only sufficient in very very few places we go to
Thomas, you are head and shoulders above any car reviewer. You keep setting that bar high mate.
Professional, succinct and your attention to detail is truly Germanic!
Highly appreciated, stay with us!
Finally a new Audi that doesn’t have fake exhaust tips!
Even my Model S 90D consumes more than 25kWh/100km at highway speed. There is nothing to complain about that. Completely normal for an electric car of that size. And 120-140km/h is way faster than normal cruising speed in most countries.
You should even try standard 19"-wheels instead of 21". I guess the consumption will drop a lot and the range will increase accordingly. That's what is does in a Tesla.
Thanx for your videos and your recommendations regarding the mirrors. I have ordered my e-tron with real mirrors.
Thanks Marcus!
I had the Model X for a longer period of time and was always realizing 400 to 450 km realistic range.
I ll repeat that with this one also for a longer time and see how that goes
Ok. Just remember that a Tesla 100D has almost 100kWh of usable capacity. The e-tron has 95kWh in total, including a safety buffer. The usable capacity is probably about 85kWh which is only slightly more than Teslas 90-battery that has 82kWh usable capacity.
With that said, a Model X 100D will always have a better range even if the consumption is roughly the same.
I expect the e-tron to have a realistic range of 300-420km. About the same as my Model S90D.
yeah good point. Also, I think the e-tron is a little heavier
In the Europe we cruise around 130-150km/h normally.
@@DominikKristek, you mean Germany I guess. There aren't many countries in the world where driving at 150km/h is legal.
When EVs like this slow down with regenerative braking, do the brake lights come on, for safety?
Acceleration is around 5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. :)
Enes063 Pretty crazy fast for such a car.
Normal for electric car. Nothing special
Tomasz Kolowca It weighs 2.5 tons and has 408 hp. Its actually pretty fast for a vehicle that weighs 2.5 tons. I test drove one here in Norway and floored it to 100 on the motorway and that instant acceleration is phenomenal, especially when you are used to normal cars that do 0-100 in around 10 seconds.
I liked the light coloured interior of your test car. Typical: everything is extra (and expensive). Nice quiet roads in driving part. Likewise prefer to be in control of recuperation. Interesting philosophy about drivetrain giving various ‘serious’ off-road advantages - yes! Excellent Review and Driving Part. Many Thanks Thomas. Regards to Katharina.
thanks =)
They should make it such that you use the cruise control on a downhill to maintain a constant speed and the car adjust recuperation to keep that speed but requiring no acceleration.
you are the best, thank you Thomas
Nice job spending over an hour on this vehicle...well worth it 😍👍🤙🏽
Long review but everything is covered in detail. Amazing work!
Thanks 🙏
Great review, Thomas, really interesting car you showed to it's full - thank you.
Big fan of this channel and your videos. Very thorough reviews with high production quality. I also want to thank you for always pointing out the head room in your videos. Like Thomas, I am also 6 foot 1 inch tall and it really helps to know which new cars out there I will be comfortable in. To my knowledge, no other car reviews I watch on youtube do this. Thank you for going that extra mile in detail.
thx so much 6ft1 brother!
This channel is great for quality, detail and extended footage. Alexonautos channel is very similar but omits extended footage. I like both channels.
Carwow makes sure to include headroom in their reviews too
You kidding me $85,000-$95,000 for 160 miles?....Nah thanks. In winter that's 105 miles, with questionable charging here in the US. This pig doesn't fly!!!
Where did you get that from. I literally managed to get 245 miles of range on the highway in the E-tron. 150kwh charging, at 80% in 20 mins.
Thomas, I like it when you get mean with the "animal skin issue"... ;-)
👹
As always top notch content.
Thank you for this review👍😎

Hey Thomas, nice outfit choice, suits well with the enviroment!
:-)
Thomas, just a few more questions: is the theoretical range accurate compared with the real one. Also do u have info on what is the range of the most basic version of this car?
did you watch full length? Since I did a range test?
@@autogefuehl Ah sorry mate, my bad. But were these vehicles basically equipped?
usually the test vehicles are fully equipped by the manufacturers, they tend not to show base versions...
Digital mirror MEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH a waste of money and I prefer more the old school mirror :D
plus the replacement cost of someone hits the camera would be many times the cost of just replacing a normal mirror. Definitely a failure.
but with real mirrors this crp of a car would have its range deceased by 10%, cause now the range is shit
@@MyGreeed This car is a failure, they can even compete with Tesla
It should be cheaper.
i watched this again at your suggestion thomas, coming from the 90's microphone video, and i have to agree, at 13:00 for instance, the mic does great sound. there are no ambient sounds where they may be with another microphone, as there is a guy standing at 9 o'clock, probably talking, opening and closing car doors etc. likewise there are a couple guys standing near the car at 1o'clock, 13:15, probably talking. cant hear any of that with this microphone. if its not broken, dont fix it : )
Great review Thomas. I agree with you concerning camera side mirror. You have to look down to see what is going from rear left/right side. Wich is not good for safety. Also, with a lot off light, you are completely blind.
Great "paysage". Thomas, you will be always welcome in desert ;)
👌
I’d like to see other makers copy the way BMW’s regen worked on my i3. There was a coasting or sailing range in the throttle pedal travel that would allow me to easily choose between regen and coasting without having to change any settings.
I think if automakers have to put an electric sound in all their automobiles they might as well make them sound like cars in The Jetsons cartoons.
haha yes
best indept and comphensive channel so much detail
Indeed. Best reviews by far, nobody else comes close. However this is third review of e-tron, so this video seems redundant.
Inept?

thanks feel free to share! =)
Until now I would rate you Thomas as top car tester, but when you in this review only comparing to Tesla and Q8, you lost all credibility. Everyone know the only real competitor to this car is the Jaguar I-Pace.
You are clearly exaggerating when you say I lost all credibility so please keep it real. My review of the I-Pace can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/95gNVoO8HpI/v-deo.html
Øystein Solbakken What a brainless comment! Thomas is one of the best car reviewer on UA-cam. You lost all your credibility with that comment
It’s not my personal taste size wise, and also I like my EVs to be more aero efficient and futuristic looking rather than trying to keep this grille look which wastes energy. But any EV is welcome at this point. I’m sure many people are going to love this, and they’ll be driving it instead of a fossil SUV. So that’s a win.
I’m not against the idea of camera mirrors, but in this case they stick out too far and the screens are too low. But the coloured blind spot monitoring is really cool. The next version of them will be great I think.
Motor journalist are a pain for other motorists behind them. They must wonder what the hell is going on as the car in front speeds up and slows down. Do you have a warning sign on the back saying "Motor Journalist, may alter speed without warning"
Thomas, do you recall a boom sound from the suspension in city driving? It has been bothering my ears.
So this is basically a de-tuned Audi Q8. I really hope this will remain as Audi's first and last effort on fully electric vehicles. I really hope one day they'll decide to R&D hydrogen fuel cell cars, not batteries on wheels. Fully electric isn't the future - it's the past. People used to have batteries for over 2000 years. The future is not storing the electricity and driving along with a ton of batteries, it's making it on the move. If all the money flushed in the battery technology were converted into HFC development, by now we'd be driving really fast and economical cars, w/o the need to stop for 1 hour every 300km.
The interior is the same as honda civic.
Thomas! I've missed you!
Beautiful car, I just need to win the Euromillions now! 🤔😲 nice review as well 👍
thanks !
No lane assist test?
Fine automobile. Maybe there was a quality lapse on the trim that came up from the top of the dash? I don't know about the rear view mirrors. It's something different. Interior is modern and looks like the next step in Audi interior design. Still a bit bland exterior but it is improving, in my opinion. Style is subjective. Others will love it and they'll be right.
For one very funny reason, this car will never sell in Québec, Canada. Because in quebecer french slang, "étron" (same prononciation as e-tron) litterally means "turd". I am not kidding.
Actually Audi already sells their hybrid cars with the brand "e-tron" also in France since several years.
great review!!!!! as always!!!!.
thank you Thomas
Best review I have seen for the e-tron.
🙏🙏🙏
Great review Thomas both interesting and professional, thank you!!....
👌
Thomas tells it like it is.
thats what we do!
Crazy to put the screen for the right side (mirror) camera all the way over on the right side of the car, close to where that mirror was. Why not put the screens just to the sides of the steering wheel, where they can easily be seen? Instead, they perpetuate the weaknesses/limitations of the old technology. Like keeping radiator grilles, creep, big front end that was needed to accommodate a fossil engine, etc.
Because you must check if there are no cars or bikes in the vehicle blind spot.
Quite agree with you, these camera-mirrors are not practical to say the least. As far as the range of the e-tron is concerned (+ 300km) I wonder what the range would be if you have this car for example in a scandinavian country in winter ... I personally would choose the A7 2.0 55tsi e quattro s tronic with normal mirrors and some options (f.e. a built in Stinger, if they control speed limits from a chopper ...) Thank you once again for a splendid video !
🙏👌
Hello Thomas , when we will see you in 4k & full screen and full length ? ☺

The ac and heater control should manual because its hard adjust on touch screen when your driving

Hi Thomas, when you are describing the surface of materials, you are saying "structure". I think you mean "texture".

The name “e-tron”, in French mean "turd" or piece of shit... ROFL!
You can see how hard this accelerates by the trajectory of that fly on the side window at 26:50. Literally rolling here hahah
Thomas habibi, u need speak with arabic accent for the voice command to recognize what you're saying
36:19 if your like me and wanted to know more about the virtual mirrors
Stupid design choice. Why compromise the space and proportions of this car with that of an ICE (combustion engined) one?! The long bonnet(needed for mid mounting engines), squashed cabin space,? The car already has easy access to 50/50 weight distribution
They used a ICE platform for this car. MEB with Volkswagen is now ready for using and the first car we will see on that platform is on sale at the end of this year. Now Audi and other will use that platform for their EV cars. I do quite like the look of this car.
Try towing your boat with this piece of junk, This thing is a joke.
Sorry Audi, but I much prefer the look of the I-Pace...
Seriously looking forward to the S version, that could be very interesting indeed imho!
I do realize the concerns with the electronic camera for mirrors malfunction, but I would still totally replace current mirrors for these. If I’m going trust a computer control board controlling my electric engine, I’m sure I can manage my fear of these electronic mirrors- as long as they have auto folding capabilities. 😂. And these probably won’t need even auto-dimming, since the camera probably has many options for reducing glare and enhancing pictures in darkness and bright sunlight.
It doesnt. You cant see sh*t driving at night :D
Is there a heating pump inbulit and from standard equipment?
Pat Ka yes it is
Wing cameras... Display even lower so can't see it past the wife especially when she's carrying her handbag on her lap.

Hmm.... Thomas how did you show the regenerative brake graph by iPad? Is there an official e-tron App or something?
That was just special for the event
Autogefugl good review
Animal free interior - is this the new conceit? Pandering to a zealous minority ... So long as people eat beef and pork, there will always be a lot of leather available. Superior material for seating.
We have researched this issue for many years now so please take your time to go through our extensive resources stated below as they answer every single question we have yet received concerning this matter.
At Autogefühl, we have already received several thousands (!) comments, messages and mails that more and more people want to combine enjoying their car with reducing the environmental impact at the same time. We believe that sustainable luxury is possible or at least we should do everything to support that. Those many thousand people confirming this trend, motivate us to give you the most authentic information and background on the product parts. It is not about what you bought in the past, and it is not about blaming anyone, it is about what you decide in the future and what you can decide and influence as a customer. So we want you to have all information that you need for a decision you later enjoy and like best yourself.
In Summer 2017, Tesla motors has decided to be the first manufacturer to go all the way with sustainable seat materials, only offering fabric/cloth seats or leatherette seats in different colours. They have banned all real leather from the seating surface and at the steering wheel in the white trim or on demand. So Tesla shows where the industry will and must be heading, just like they went forward with electrification first.
Check out our special video addressing car CEOs as a first summary and also see conditions of animal skin production:
ua-cam.com/video/LNSUzZXzpdc/v-deo.html
List of practical reasons against animal skin seats:
1. animal skin seats are often sold as an expensive option, by going for base trim level seats you can save a lot of money and get a better price-performance-deal (often the manufacturers claim that animal leather is top of luxury because they can earn the best money with it)
2. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat, probably you need seat cooling
3. they get very cold in winter and you need seat heating
4. on cloth or microfibre surfaces, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
5. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like an old sofa
6. if you want leather look or need seats that can be wiped clean easier, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review ua-cam.com/video/y2wNGFKa4M0/v-deo.html) So Tesla shows a good example for that and as described, non-leather materials are now standard for ALL Tesla
7. More manufacturer names for their good alternatives: Mercedes MBTex/Artico for leatherette, Dinamica for microfibre. BMW Sensatec, Toyota Sof-Tex, Lexus Nu-Luxe (all faux leather)
To the environmental reasons:
1. The way the cows and other intelligent and social animals are raised and held are not according to the basic values that we all share (also see videos below)
2. The factory farming industry can be accounted for at least 40 % of climate emissions and thus is (according to numerous sources you can look up) the number one reason for climate change and environmental destruction. It is the number one reason for deforestation, two thirds of all agricultural land on earth is used for growing animal food crops. If you would feed humans directly by using the agricultural land, you could produce much more food for everyone. See this interesting essay for more on climate emissions background: www.worldwatch.org/files/pdf/Livestock%20and%20Climate%20Change.pdf
3. It is not only cows who are suffering, but also the environment and to a big part also humans. Think of slavery-like working conditions in slaughterhouses (there are plenty of documentaries about this) or think of chemically altered drinking water in animal skin production villages as also seen in the video footage.
4. The discussion, for which body part the cow is killed first, is very patronizing. But if you really think it would be important why someone gets killed in first place: There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even while still being (part-)alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body.
5. So even if a cow gets theoretically killed for meat first, in every case you give additional money to an industry that relies on killing, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". A the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover up that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy.
6. To the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
To “But leatherette is not sustainable due to petrochemical production”
1. Indeed some fabrics and micro fibres are oil based, however most oil is spent on energy production, heating and fuel. The share of oil used for artificial cloth etc. is very very small.
2. If you look at the whole production process, the leatherette is way more sustainable than the leather produce. Even if you leave the ethical aspect aside, here is the official calculation of the CO2-Output animal skin vs leatherette (different kinds of leatherette):
Leather 17 kg CO2/m²
PVC leatherette 10 kg CO2/m²
Acella Eco natural leatherette 8,5 kg CO2/m²
Benova (PUR leatherette): 8 kg CO2/m²
So by using the latest high-tech leatherette, you even the CO2-emissions are cut in half!
3. The best to-come solution are indeed plant-based materials like Pinatex (based on pineapple leaves) or new materials based on mycelia (roots of mushrooms) or other innovative natural products. That’s the future.
More special video episodes:
1. A initial special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/v-deo.html
2. And another one right here: ua-cam.com/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/v-deo.html
3. Furthermore, you’ll find the footage of leather production also here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: ua-cam.com/video/JipYvuDsI6s/v-deo.html
timecode starting 27:46
4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ua-cam.com/video/OgHs239bAnE/v-deo.html
5. Please note that those videos are made by well-known journalists and cameramen who were not influenced by any animal welfare organisation, they supply their footage to the animal rights groups of course. I partly know the creators of the video footage personally and they are all authentic. You don’t have to search long to find cruel production environments anyway.
Manufacturers reactions:
We started the very first inquiry years ago, with the result that car manufacturers do not reveal their sources of animal skin AT ALL. If it all would be clean and happening without harm, why don’t they show it to us whereas they are showing us every other detail of their products? They have good reason not to, because there is no such thing as a clean animal skin production without harming cows, humans and the environment. The only thing a manufacturer can do is increase their effort for a better future, and we are helping with in-depth talks and interviews by presenting the increasing customer demand for sustainable luxury. Tesla was the first one to react in a major way now.
So meanwhile, we more often also get feedback that a lot of manufacturers are working on leather-free interiors and are aware of the situation. E.g. Bentley, Mini and Kia have started vegan car interior programmes. Besides Tesla, Mercedes already shows major choices for sustainable interiors, you always have to pay attention to the details when ordering, of course - and we are happy to give advice. However, much has to be done still and the Autogefuehl community is massively helping in boosting the positive change!
Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!
Hi Thomas, I-pace and E-tron are definitely on my shortlist now, thanks to your great in-depth reviews. At the end you say it has the best drive of any e-vehicle. Does that also include the I-pace, I saw your review of that one and you really enjoyed that ride too. Is the ipace just as silent and more agile, or is the e-tron more silent and just as agile and fun?
Hi! Yes, iPace was also a good ride but I felt the etron was overall better (a little bigger though)
Autogefühl how would you compare the ride to Tesla X?
How does Quattro work now?
Not traditional Quattro anymore
watch in full length and you ll know :) Also check the drifting episode linked below in comments and video description and u ll know even better
If Tesla went a bit too far with their minimalist approach of the dash in the Model 3, Audi went in the opposite direction, the e-tron dash seems a bit overworked with so many lines, edges, levels and screens!
Is it just Thomas being tall and the car being in the sand or is the car not that Traditional SUV tall? It looks like a raised hatch. Or is it just bc it's in the sand?
Thomas is very tall, but the car is also small
faROCK03 almost 5 meters long and a few cm lower than a Q7 is not small.
Maybe the batteries reduce a bit the height in the car?!
@Johnny Ericsson ah, thanks for the feedback, I was not aware of that.
Of course being a bit smaller increases the cars range. So that makes sense...
I wish the range was more. My commute is 124 miles round trip. I also dip into NC, florida and myrtle beach for golf trips. The range is key for me to spend 75k-80k on an electric car.
Uf, so perfect proportions, looks ideal to me
the future!!
once thomas gets his hands on the Audi GT etron and how everything is recycled inside without leather, i mean animal skin this will be him: ua-cam.com/video/dslxTj_uUwM/v-deo.html
can u believe how much he will be in heaven? hahaha
=)
Nice car but the Mercedes EQC seems better in every way. It certainly looks better inside-out.
"Nice car but the Mercedes EQC seems better in every way."
Really? You seem like the first one who says so. The EQC has a slower AC charging, a slower DC charging, a smaller battery, less range, no frunk, charging port only one side, no flat floor in the back (the EQC has a transmissiontunnel in the middle like in an ICE car),...
Don't get me wrong, there is enough room for several cars, and if you would prefer the Mercedes becasue of the exterior or interior design, then it is fine. And of course we don't have all information yet, so we have to wait until both cars are on the market for an actual comparison. But at this point and from n neutral point of view, I really cannot understand, how somebody can say that the EQC "seems better in every way".
Fröhliche Weihnachten und ein glückliches Neues Jahr!
merry xmas :)

wow - awesome car and record !!
Great EV by Audi , but I think we need a breakthrough in battery technology to reduce the weight and increase effiicency of the battery because they are just too inefficent and heavy, then good EV cars would be affordable for everyone.
What about this new fluoride based ion tech that has been discovered , has anyone heard if it's gonna be available any time soon?
I forgot it. So ... and thank you so much for your whole year's work! :)
Appreciated!
the first E-car with a co-driver 😃. enjoyable review as always.

Wow! Great review. I really like the honesty of the review, but very disappointed with not using natural leather as a great material for the automotive industry. Animal agriculture is a vital and one of the best sources of protein an nutritional value their is! Animal rights activists have taken the circle of life into a possible dessert of a Unsustainable life! Let’s embrace life and how it really works. Without animals humans will die as well. I like electric vehicles, but I also like balance. Remember, the sweet spot of the pendulum is very close to the middle. This is a great car Audi, keep dreaming!

Thanks!
Autogefühl Wow, I have always bought my cars with leather seats. This long and thorough response has given me pause. Since I do like meat, my thought was that the skin was just a byproduct. If manufacturers offered a synthetic material that was more durable, more comfortable and had better climate (in the car and for the planet) benefits, I would still pay the premium mark up they are used to with leather.
I'll wait for the RS Version
I Dont like when mirrors is replaced with camera... Feels like you are blind.. because you cant look at them when you're traveling normally in straight line without changing lines and feels - un safe because you dont know what is happening behind you.
Fantastic review, thank you very much! :) happy new year!
happy new year!
Electronic mirrors can probably be placed where the rearview mirror is. The strange electronic camera-mirrors kan probably be totaly removed and replaced with another solution like integrated cameras in the side pillars in the middle and back if necessary.
;-)
volkswagen corp. really needs to design their ev driveline cars from the bottom, i think this would improve efficiency and range, as well as space utilization in the cabin, for axample look at the cargo space in the tesla s under the bonnet, and the false floor in the back. Otherwise this car looks beautiful, and i think it will be a success, finally a longer range ev with german build quality and (possibly) reliability, would for axample not dare to own an i-pace outside of warranty. Good video btw. :)
How dose this SUV compare with the Mercedes Benz EQC?

You should probably consider active throttling with paddles on the steering wheel. A concept known to those who drive motorcycles and airplanes. This that can be donw with paddles on both sides. The downside is similar to that of motorcycles and airplanes, again - drivers hands will need to be on the same place on the steering wheel. But not all the time with the right recuperation mode.
